Why is this community so toxic nowadays?

Recommended Posts

My perception is that the community was more toxic when I joined two years ago and it was mostly filled with people who were quitting the game or no longer playing it. But maybe I just got used to the tone over time, I don’t know.

Not an issue only with tanki's community duh.

It is just that this generation of gamers are toxic, in general.

Actually this isn't the case with every game. I've played quite a few other games where toxicity was mostly non existant. The most toxic game I've played besides tanki was talisman online, and even that paled in comparison to this game.

If I treat people in the other games the way that SOME people in this community do, then the people who I treated like that would think I'm a huge bully or jerk. And they'd be right to think so.

Also this community used to be so much more friendly a couple years ago. Now all I see are hostility at almost every turn.

I actually read through old post and they were a lot more toxic, everyone squabbling everywhere. I think now is better, more civilised.

In all honesty, Tanki isn't even in the top 10 of games I've played with regards to toxicity. You'd usually find these sort of people in very competitive online FPS shooters. As someone already pointed out in this topic - Warzone and CS:GO communities will make TO's community sound like amateurs when it comes to dishing out insults at everything they don't like.

There's also Rainbow 6, a game that I found incredibly interesting and actually really enjoyed its gameplay mechanics, graphics, and overall feel of the game... till I played some Casual (not even Ranked) games and really got a first-hand taste of what it's like to get literally shot in the back by your own teammates, then later kicked out the game via vote because I wasn't quite up to par with their skill level. ?

The gaming community in general (in my opinion), has gotten increasingly toxic over the years, it's certainly nothing to do with Tanki specifically.

Well, how old were they? I've been in the forum starting way back in October of 2016. And up until late 2020, I've only encountered a few toxic players. If there really were alot of toxic players back then, they left shortly after the global update that occurred.

From 2017 to early 2020, the community was way better than it is now. Now the toxicity has increased by 20x either because all the friendly players left, or the game started attracting the toxic ones.

Well I guess that's what happens when you play competitive games. Also thanks for telling me about a couple more games I should avoid.

I don’t think there would be a big difference between the number of toxic players before and now, but maybe it feels so because the number of players who blame the game itself has increased a lot ;-;

While it may be alright to find humor in this, I feel sad seeing that good people start behaving rudely with others just because they were once treated the same way by other players.

How will toxicity ever end if we all start behaving in the same way as the players who ill-treated us?

Easy solution, just perma restrict people like [Removed] and their friends. You can restrict me too but after I leave. In fact, I was honestly planning on requesting Maf to do it, but since you're offering.

Removed sensitive info. (Names of players)

Now you are a contributing member of our "toxic" community.

I'm not actually toxic. But I can be toxic. You saw how bad I wrecked that person. And you got this "oh so lovely" community to thank for it.

These players have done nothing to warrant a permanent restriction. If you feel they have, then do report their posts and we will take care of it as per protocol.

Ok well, if you say so. I would say you should definitely keep tabs on them for safety measures, but you do you.

don't recall ever offering you a perma ban on the forum. You are free to request Maf/Toby about it as they are the Forum admins.

Welp, back to my original plan.

But seriously, when I thought about what a good roast that was, I couldn't help but laugh. ?

Oh so what happened to ignoring part huh?

Somebody's bad towards you, so you're bad towards them eh?

Tit for tat you say?

I disagree.

You don't have to stand up for anything. You don't have to become toxic just because someone is toxic. You literally fell into their trap, by replying in the same tone as they did. By doing that you are proving to be no different than those people.

When someone tries to provoke you, and you get provoked, that's their victory. If you keep your cool, that's your win.

That's where wisdom lies in.

Even more easier solution. Just be a chill dude and don't bother whatever people say. I've got no problems with anybody in the forum. ?

Actually I set the trap up. I disabled the notifications so that I can respond in my own convenience rather than on the spot. I warned him that if any of his friends were to help him, then I would block them. I created a scenario where it was a fair one on one argument. And I won fair and square. He just got salty and wanted nothing to do with me.

Yeah well, I tried to ignore them, but all it did was put me in a bad mood all week.

So I set the trap waiting for one of them to bite down. Now I'm in a much better mood. I don't have any regrets. I don't care if people here deem me as toxic. This whole community is toxic nowadays, so whats one more? Besides, I didn't get any respect when I returned anyway.

a wise man once said " ones retaliation in the moment of anger is an absolut loss "

you should know this, every toxic individual wants one outcome : retaliation! thats all they want, that person to retaliate ! at the momment you think you won, well your wrong , its he 'the toxic individual which has won. he wanted you to retaliate and you just did. bro keep calm and take moves that are necessary thats all i can say, hope this benefits you in a way!

If that was true, then he would've just kept responding. The fact that he didn't want nothing more to do with me proves otherwise.

Its true I lost the first round because it was a 5 on 1 and I snapped, which lead me to back off.

The second round, I won because it was fair and square and I came prepared and ended up roasting him.

Truth is, if you back off in an argument, then you have all these negative feelings and thoughts, and the opponent gets to treat you worse than before.

But if you stand your ground, then you will have all these positive feelings and thoughts as well as the satisfaction of knocking that person off his high horse, and the opponent will think twice before messing with you.

At Legend ranks, it's all about competition, competition leads to ego and aggressive behaviour which in turn leads to toxicity in many forms.

Yeah true. However a lot of legends are nice too, if you peek in chat most of them are legends chatting, most are civilised and chat with players really low ranked as if ranked didn't matter. So nice to see.

That's probably a good portion of the problem. Most of the player base nowadays have at least one legend ranked account. So I can see that as the main reason why the community has become toxic.

Toxicity is rather a product of peer pressure. If one guy is toxic yet popular in the community, others may think that toxicity is the way to boost their social status. Eventually, with the majority acting toxic (and therefore becoming the coolest dudes evah), what's previously normal will no longer be normal. Simply breaking the chain of toxic behavior can help improve the atmosphere. Certainly, "wimps" don't stand much chance in a mentally superior community, but they tend to be nicer than others.

@DieselPlatinum However dire the situations may be, it is our responsibility to take care of ourselves and make the current scenario better. Provoking someone isn't the right way to go , if you wish to report a helper's behaviour (whether negative or positive), there is a specific rule that one should do it in the Forum PM to respective admin (in case of Forum, they are Maf or Toby).

There is no point in conveying futile arguments with one another. Nobody likes to hear negative comments about oneself, trust me. The same goes with you and the same goes with everyone too. We all are under the dome of following rules. You hear somebody provoking you, just try to correct him by using formal opinions and with manners, if the situation gets bad, report it to a Forum Mod. We are here to take care of it.

We fully understand your way of opinions, but please try to maintain a positive environment in the forum, so that it remains a good experience for other forumers too.

This applies to everyone Just follow the rules and have fun guys ^^

No, they can sort their arguments out by fair and proper means. By being formal and making the other person understand their point of view through meaningful arguments.

No, but what meant was that personal issues between 2 are always the best if solved in private.
Forum is a formal place. When you post something here, it stays.

You cannot argue on personal level, out in announcement topics or any other ones. That's not their purpose at a basic level. I hope this makes it clear.

Well, that certainly seems to be the case here. The patterns I've described definitely matches with what you've stated here.

Honestly, this isn't a trustworthy solution. The opponent could just bring his friends into the PM, making it argument quite unfair.
