Addition of "Dislike" and "Disagree" Reactions

Recommended Posts

This idea is not actually about the game, but its forum.

When I post something on the forum, especially in the "Ideas and Suggestions" section, I often come up against people who disagree with my idea due to various reasons, which is completely fine, because everyone has their own opinion. But there are some people who even after understanding why I'm saying the idea should be implemented, argue with me just for the sake of it, by coming up with invalid and baseless arguments which defy common sense. It's not that they lack common sense and that's why they are making such arguments. It's just that they don't want their "ego" to get hurt, because they had posted a reply to my idea to oppose it, and when I clarify my idea to make them understand what I really mean, they don't have anything to say that could oppose it. But because they had said something against my idea earlier, they can't accept the fact that the idea is actually good, or valid, as then they will get proven wrong, thus hurting their ego. At least that's what it seems like. And I'm quite sure this happens not only with me, but also with many other players, as I've read some of their posts myself (especially in the "Ideas and Suggestions" section, as previously mentioned). The problem here is, at such times, if we keep replying to such people who disagree with us, it would waste a lot of our time for essentially nothing. But if we don't reply to them, some players could feel like the matter is left uncleared. So we are kind of stuck in the middle. That's why I have an idea, i.e., the "Dislike" and "Disagree" reactions being added to the forum, so that players can just add either of those reactions to the posts which they disagree with, including the ones shared by the critics of their ideas and suggestions.

Declined

We used to have dislikes in the old forum engine (green  UP arrow and red DOWN arrow), but it was abused by some people to a point where we have to disable the negative reaction. Even in the new (current) forum engine we tried to add more neutral reactions in the form of ? or ?‍♂️, but people abused those as well, so in the end we just removed it altogether. I don't think the administation will support your proposal, but we can discuss adding negative reactions back, now that the forum is less active than it used to be.

I understand. Thanks for considering my idea ??

One possible solution to this problem that I see is – maybe the negative reactions can be added back to the forum, and if people start to abuse them again, a limit can be set for using them. For example, a player can add negative reactions to let's say 5 posts per day (at the most). After that, the reactions will be unusable for that player, for that duration. And I think it would make sense to have this limit of using negative reactions only if they are used way more than the positive ones, which I think is what you meant by people abusing them. Because even if the reactions are removed, people are still spreading negativity in the forum by criticising other people's ideas, suggestions, and the game itself, in a rude and arrogant tone. I mean the fact that they disagree with something isn't the problem. The problem is their tone. I have observed that most of the time people criticise something in a rude and arrogant tone, in spite of always having the option to state the same thing in a polite and respectful manner.

I may be wrong at some point though, especially about how the idea could be implemented. Please correct me if I am.

@Maf What do you think about this? I'm a bit curious to see how this idea pans out.

I'm against this idea as people will surely abuse it to provoke others for no good reason.

Hell, the shruggies were removed after i had a discussion with some random dude (his ego was a little too high). So i assume that was the last straw. I'm not against adding more of neutral reactions like "thinking".

I'm pretty sure we did have a limit on negative reactions and it still didn't help. At the end of the day the same problem remains — leaving a "dislike" is unconstructive criticism, and we'd much rather have the person reply with a comment explaining why they dislike/disagree with something.

Oh, now I see why this idea is not good, especially because of the "unconstructrive criticism" factor that you have mentioned. But then again, as I said earlier, even without the existance of those negative and neutral reactions, people are still spreading negativity in the forum by the ways I've mentioned earlier (arguing just for the sake of it; replying to someone in a rude and arrogant tone). I mean even if someone's explaination as to why they disagree with an idea is valid, they always have the option to state it in a polite and respectful manner, but from what I've experienced and observed, most of the players choose the path of stating their disagreement with an idea in a rude and arrogant tone.

Eh, that's just the internet in a nutshell...

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

We checked again and this won't be implemented. Status changed to declined.

Ohh, okk... No problem. Thanks for considering the idea though ?
