[Issue 17] How to Jump

Jumping. Every tanker does it. Whether it be jumping off the blue team’s base in Silence in attempt to escape with the flag, or falling to a small platform in Abyss when playing hide-and-seek. But how can a player properly execute a jump and guarantee that they won’t flip or land on their side? Here in this guide I’ll describe the different methods you can use to jump without flipping your tank.

How to jump when using a weapon with recoil:

Jumping can be quite simple if one uses a weapon with recoil. The recoil weapons listed in order of amount of recoil in a single shot are: Twins, Smoky, Shaft, Thunder, Ricochet, and Railgun. To safely drop from heights when using a weapon with recoil, simply fire your weapon while falling through the air to cause the falling end of the tank to rise up and cause the tank to land on its tracks. This method is shown in the following video:

Difficulty: 2/10

Effectiveness: 6/10

This method is useful in many situations, however it receives a 6/10 because it can be rather easy to shoot a falling tank causing it to flip.

One doesn’t have to drive and fire straight all the time to perform this technique successfully. To land successfully when driving off a high ledge at an angle, aim your turret in the direction that the tank is dropping in. Another way is to fire in the opposite direction if using a weapon with enough recoil. These methods are also relatively easy to execute, they just need a little more practice and timing. They are shown in the following video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLeGKMpTF_Y

Difficulty: 5/10

Effectiveness: 7/10

This method is also pretty simple to execute, and it gives more protection against other players shooting at you while you fall, as it is possible for a shot’s recoil to help you right your tank.

How to jump when using a weapon without recoil:

Well that’s all nice and easy, but what if someone uses either Isida, Firebird, or Freeze? These weapons don’t have recoil, and therefore the previous methods cannot be applied. Well, first of all, do NOT just drive straight off the platform and hold down the up arrow or w key hoping your tank will be able to right itself once it hits the ground. Many times it does not work, and when it does, it wastes valuable time. The proper way to complete this jump is to either drive straight and then suddenly stop going forward while turning your tank to the side. If completed properly, the tank should rotate approximately 360 degrees before landing upright on the ground below. This method can be incredibly effective, but can only be executed well when dropping from relatively high platforms, such as the blue base in Silence. It will not work for lower platforms such as the bridge on Kungur, as shown in the following video, in which I used hornet due to it being one of the most common hulls used with short-ranged weapons at the lower, often less skilled ranks:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAg-Vzhh_rk&feature=youtu.be

Difficulty: 6/10

Effectiveness: 8/10

This was my favorite method to use for a long time, and often it worked very well, on Silence at least. The main downside of this method and the reason that it doesn’t receive a higher score is that it can only be used on certain platforms that aren’t too high or too low.

The final method I will be elaborating on in this article is what I like to call the “helicopter maneuver.” To execute this method, place your tank close to perpendicular with the ledge that you will be jumping off of. Then, start driving forward while turning sideways toward the ledge. Your tank should spin around a bit before landing on its tracks. This method is the most difficult to perfect out of all of the methods described in this guide, mainly because most players simply don’t know how to start it. They often start turning while driving straight towards the ledge instead of turning towards the ledge while facing away. It is also possible to execute this maneuver successfully from many different heights, as shown in the following video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbBDDHtWebI&feature=youtu.be

Difficulty: 8/10

Effectiveness: 10/10

This method is incredibly useful. It receives full marks in its effectiveness because, if done correctly, it can safely land your tank after jumping from a ledge of any height without interference.

Hopefully you all learned much from this guide, and will soon be able to use all of these methods effectively in your battles while all of those Russian and German players stand still in awe of what you just did!   ;)

Good Luck and See You on the Battlefield!

Exceptional guide. The way you've structured it reminds me of the Rail-avoiding one I did a while back ^_^ I love how you've used videos to demonstrate each point, to great effect. You've clearly spent quite a bit of time on this; it's clear, comprehensive, and detailed. Well done!

Nono,in the video you use hornet m2,but I could do that perfectly in each map with dictator m3+isida m3 before rebalance, even now on test server....

But,nice article,it's nice!

Nice article. I have been trying to figure out how to do the helicopter maneuver and your guide really helped me :)

Intresting for 'newbies' (:, this should be intresting for the FAQ.

I already experienced with all those tacticks, I will post a video about number 1, that still works.

WHAT.

LIKE, OH MY GOD I DIDN'T KNOW THESE THINGS, THEY REALLY SAVED MY LIFE.

Being a generalissimo, of course you know these things, however, this guide was made for newer, less experienced, and less skilled players who didn't know these things. ;)
