Xp/bp Glitch

Today in xp/bp battle i was using my hornet and 1 railgun m3 killed me in 1 shot its supposed to be 2 right? And again in another battle 1 railgun m3 killed me in 1 shot, it can't be lag as the shooter himself told me i died in 1 shot

Bringing in this argument my personal experience as proofs (you can ask to @DarkOperative aswell, he witnessed this many times), I consider myself a really lucky Railgun M3 player - I often fire a shot that deals the max. damage possible, for a total of 164.85 HP.

 

In the few XP battles I played with him, I often one-shotted him or other users. We were all using Hornet M3 / Railgun M3 / No prot. paint - he was amazed of how lucky I was, but this is not a glitch at all, it is part of the Game for what we could see.

 

Since this is something that needs to be answered by a Developer, I contacted one of them and asked him to explain this to me, if possible.

I am closing this topic for now to prevent random suppositions or statements.

 

 

Let's wait for an official answer, I will publish it as soon as possible :)

OFFICIAL ANSWER FROM THE DEVS

 

 

Railgun damage value is not fixed - it varies randomly between boundaries (range).
The min damage possible for Railgun M3 is 108.91.
The max damage possible for Railgun M3 is 164.85.
 
Basically, as stated above, Railgun M3 damage can be any of the values found in-between those two limits, limits included. Even considering this, there is another thing to analyze to understand how some turrets work:

  • values are always "rounded" - all stats for turrets and hulls are rounded values when being calculated by the Servers (no decimals)
  • fixed boundaries have a small tolerance and this means that, for example, the max damage for Railgun M3 can be slightly exceeded and thus happen to be higher than 164.85 (rounded to 165, but as said in this sentence already, can happen to be even slightly higher than 165), causing a one-shot kill on a Hornet M3 that has 166.3 HP (rounded to 166)
  • same goes for min damage - the min damage boundary can be slightly exceeded and lead your Railgun M3 to deal a slightly lower damage than 108.91 (rounded to 109)

 


So far, the above information can be resumed with the following graph since the damage caused by turrets without a fixed damage value are calculated randomly with a range of possible values:

  • 108.91 - MIN DMG
  • 164.85 - MAX DMG
  • "Mean or average" is the most common value assigned to Railgun M3 damage (136.88 is the AVERAGE DMG value for Railgun M3)

As stated above, every time you fire a shot with your Railgun, the Server randomly calculates a value between MIN and MAX and assign it to the fired shot, so the value is not fixed. This can cause some values to be really close to the MIN or really close to the MAX:

  • all values that are closer to the boundaries are the rarest ones
  • all values that are closer to the average line are the most common ones

Obviously, as I already stated above, there is the rare possibility of firing a shot that may exceed the MIN boundary or the MAX boundary and, in the MAX boundary case, fire a shot that may one-shot kill a Hornet M3.

Hope that this clarify it all - the answer I got from Devs was the first part of this post (regarding boundaires and range, possible cases of exceeding them and rounded values) - the rest was added by me to explain how complex our Game actually is ;)
