Amateur Writing Club

Information | Members List

Hello, tankmen and tankwomen! So, what's this club all about? In essence, this club is part of a new idea being started up by the newspaper: an 'amateur' writing section for players to post their work. In this topic, we'll explain all about it, and what this will involve for our community.

What is it?

For all those topics we publish in this section and if we feel a suitable attitude is demonstrated (see below), we will invite the authors to join the Amateur Writing Club, which will involve working closely with Reporters to write for the community. This will entail becoming an member of this section's official club, communicating with a Reporter via forum PM and/or Skype to receive individual feedback on your work (help, advice, thoughts etc.), as well as the chance to join a structured Skype group with other members. You could showcase your individual talent as part of this dedicated club or work with other members - it's up to you!

What does this mean for you? Well, there are numerous possibilities on offer here. These include:

- Providing mentoring, advice and feedback to all interested writers.

- As you'll be working with us, we'll be helping you out along the way as part of the team. We'll be actively reading your stuff, offering our constructive advice and feedback, and encouraging you to develop your skills. Our goal here is to try and work together with all those interested in writing to give back to the community.

- Acting as an official writing club without staff commitments.

- We're sure there are quite a few strong writers out there who don't write for the newspaper simply because they wouldn't have the time, or don't want to have to deal with the various hassles of being a staff member. This club offers a place for you to write what you want, however you want to and as often as you like. Join a team of community writers, and get to know other interesting forumers (and us Reporters!) without having any obligations. There are no hidden rules or responsibilities.

- The chance to work with (or even join) the Reporter group.

- But, for those who would be interested in joining the official staff... if you're talented enough, then it probably won't be long before we 'talent-spot' you and invite you to join our team! A staff position offers a platform to write for the wider playerbase, cool staff paints and access to secret areas of the forum, crystal rewards and more! This is a great way to get yourself noticed, and you could be asked to join the newspaper if you demonstrate strong writing capabilities (or improve to such a level).

- The opportunity to write for Projects and participate in the AWC League.

- Every so often, we run special Projects specially for the Amateur Writing Club members. Writing for these fun projects will help you develop as a writer, and will also grant you entry to the AWC League, where you will be awarded points, ranks, and you'll also earn cool crystal bonuses. You can view the League rankings, project rewards and so on in the pinned topic.

How does it work?

- Requirements: All you need to do is have a working English ability (it doesn't have to be perfect!), and show an interest in writing with us by posting an article of some sort in this Amateur Writing section. It's that simple!

- What happens next? We'll read through your topics, and publicly publish all those which have comprehensible written content and which offer a decent amount of content for people to read. So basically, at least 400 words (recommended - exceptions allowed for short stories, poems and other short writing forms) and understandable English would be enough as the bare minimum!

- Joining the club: If you wish to join the Amateur Writer's Club, you must first publish a piece in AWS. Then, you need to PM  with a request to join the club. (More information can be found here.) If we feel that your attitude is suitable for the club (i.e. good attitude, willingness to learn and participate etc.), you will be accepted into the Amateur Writers Club.

- The consequences: Joining the group will involve having your name put on this topic, personal communication, feedback and mentoring from us Reporters, the opportunity to join a dedicated Skype group to get to know each other and work together, and the other opportunities listed above.
