[Issue 21] The Tunes of Your Battle

   Many people neglect the importance of music in one’s everyday life, usually calling it “distracting” or “unimportant”. But know it from me, music can be as important as a leisure activity, but can also drastically improve your performance and energize your experience in various activities. The above mentioned include writing, reading, playing games, studying, house cleaning, walking the dog, cooking, and practically any part of your daily routine that may seem less interesting without the presence of a cheerful catchy tune.

   In Tanki Online, you can almost always benefit from a fast paced track that matches the shooting of your gun. If the track doesn’t serve as a pacemaker it can at least keep your excitement up during long and tiresome battles. One way of measuring how exciting a song can be is by its BPM (Beats Per Minute) – Music with high BPM nowadays generally classifies as some pretty fast rock pieces, or electronic music like DnB, Electro or other types of EDM. For me the EDM option works out very well. I have a few active playlists with such tracks that I play every time I go on a Polygon DM, for example. There is something in the rhythm of that type of music that makes my hands just stick to the keys and act as if I have a sugar rush of some sort, thus making my eye-to-hand coordination much more efficient. Truly, once synced with the rhythm of a fast paced song the Tanki player can become “one with his tank”.

   To try to help you new EDM listeners get oriented a bit quicker, I’ve embedded some of the recently found and/or more often played tracks I’ve been using for the past month. You can use those samples to find other electronic songs that are more suitable for your playing style, or move on to a different genre of music.

Classical House, remastered into Electro that makes your hair bristle.

A more unusual tune, I sometimes like cheerful songs like this. Don't judge me for listening to Matthew Koma, since the remix is by one of my favorite artists.

Here we get to the real stuff. 110 BPM is the last step prior to becoming deaf.

More Glitch Hop... this time turbocharged by Stephen Walking.

This a rather old release that I came back to earlier this week. Cheers to BioShock fans out there  ;)

There is also the "Current Music" topic where you can share your battle songs and explore those of your friends.

     Considering the diversity of personalities out there, I figured that not all people necessarily have similar tastes in music. Actually, there are some who don’t even like playing with music in the background as they get less concentrated than usual. So, with respect to everyone’s opinions, I made a small survey.

Me:  When you play Tanki, do you usually listen to any music? Do you prefer playing while accompanied by a certain beat? If so, tell me what’s your favorite genre(s) of “battle music” Rock, Electronic, maybe even Classical? Share your thoughts.

I certainly love listening to music when playing Tanki or doing anything else related to community management. Some people say it distracts them from doing stuff, but it's completely the opposite for me, gets things in the head more structured, and makes a day more productive. As for certain styles of music, I guess I'm an 80s guy that is fond of post-punk and new wave bands like The Sound, Lowlife, The Church and so on. Simplistic beats and groovy bass is what I like most.

@joostcool

I always go to YouTube right after I’ve started up my laptop. Just because I love listening to music. I don't think it has anything to do with Tanki in particular. Usually I listen to pop music, like the Dutch top 40. When I play Tanki I tend to listen to music with a clear beat in it. Last month I found Electro House. I liked that so much, that I listen to it all the time now while playing Tanki. Many people say they play better because of music, I think that is a superstition, but I ''abuse'' that, I make myself think that I play better with it, so I actually do play better.

@BuddyGuy

Mostly, when I’m playing, I’m in call with friends. But sometimes, yes, I prefer music. When music is energetic and I like it, it helps me play better. It depends on my mood, if I feel good I can listen everything, even Classical music, but when I’m bored I mostly listen to Rock.

I don't listen to music while I play.  I either have a video or the TV on.  Usually a classic movie I've seen a hundred times, or the history channel or something like that.

OFF during clan wars/training.  Always ON the rest of the time.  Tanki would be boring without it.  I have a very wide musical appreciation.  So depending on the mood it can be electronic music, or rock/metal when I feel like pwning some noobs or even stuff like reggae or classical / neoclassical music when I’m just chilling and tanking around. However there is one track that is quite very special to me and dear @Fleurie when we play: "Moi je joue" by  French icon Brigitte Bardot.

Yes, I do prefer to listen to music while playing Tanki. The music I enjoy listening to are generally upbeat songs, the reason being is that they have the ability to raise my confidence, and just allows more enjoyment overall as It takes away from the boring game sounds. I must admit however, by muting the game sounds this sometimes disadvantages you, as before (with sounds) you could detect the direction your enemy is coming from, and could be notified about the gold box falling better. However despite the detriments to the gameplay by listening to music, I far prefer the enjoyment of the music and hence I listen to music while playing.

@Notchfan

I usually play the game without listening to music, so I can hear what's happening around me (freeze next to the wall, gold box alarm etc). But if I'm in the mood, I prefer listening to electronica and rock music while pulverizing some enemy tanks.

Well yes, I usually listen to music if it doesn’t bother my laptop too much. When I do, it’s usually pop music, but rarely do I listen to Gospel music or Classical music when I’ve heard a piece that caught my attention. I listen to a variety of artists within these genres, however I am a fan of Lorde…  Anyway, when playing I usually listen to one song repeatedly or switch between two or three.

@SpaceCowboy18

Well, for me EDM is everything, those of you who don’t know what EDM is, it’s basically remixes or songs made by DJ's mostly party songs, which makes you dance. And while playing Tanki I listen to it, it makes us get in the mood. I listen to it when I’m losing a match, by listening to it energizes me to kill more and win that game

I like to listen to some Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (Hip-Hop/Rap), with some Comedy to get my cheers up (The Lonely Island), and that pop, which is LMFAO, and at last but not least is Fun. (Alternative) to get me on the fast pace! :D Since I'm Hispanic I also listen to 3Ball MTY  and Tierra Cali.
