[New Format] Wasp/Hornet+Smoky

Recommended Posts

This is the age of format battles- formats now have their very own official battle mode! So, why should Railgun get all the glory? What about another interesting and enthralling turret... Smoky!!

Pros & Cons

  • The rapid firing rate of Smoky adds intensity and excitement.
  • The rapid firing rate of Smoky means more room for error, mistakes mean less.
  • The rapid firing rate also means that you have to aim a lot more often, which requires a lot of focus and skill.
  • Smoky's critical shot adds uncertainty and anticipation. It would also create unexpected and exciting events during battle.
  • Smoky's high impact force and recoil requires that players be 100% focused at every moment.

Now that you know the general Pros and Cons (Suggestions welcome!), let's move on to the technicalities. I'll begin with the Format Rules.

BC/XC (Wasp/Hornet+Smoky) Format

  • M1 Wasp: Savanna, Needle
  • M1 Hornet: Savanna, Needle
  • M2 Wasp: Zeus, Jade, Hohloma, Carbon
  • M2 Hornet: Zeus, Jade, Hohloma, Carbon
  • M3 Wasp: Tundra, Electra, Digital, Flora
  • M3 Hornet: Mary, Swash, Desert, Cedar, all non-protective paints

The suggested format highlights another con: Price and exclusivity. M1s would need expensive and lately-unlocked paints in order to participate. In fact, by the time those paints are unlocked, M2 combinations could have been obtained by tankers. Therefore, M1s are allowed, but are not suggested and will probably be rare. I'd say this format's "strength" modification would be M2. M2 ranks are generally where a lot, if not most, format players are at. Most XP/BP players already have M2 or M3 Hornet or Wasp, and there are very cheap paint options for those (ex. Carbon, Flora). I'd say XP/BP's "weak" modification is M2, because most players do not have the correct paints for that; this is where BC/XC can really compete.

Well, in my view, the Pros far outweigh the Cons, and this format could very easily compete with XP/BP. Share your thoughts below, and don't forget to check out the following topics:

Player Suggestions

Personally, I think that unpredictable crit. shots are what make it fun. All the other weapons are predictable, especially rail. Smokey isn't. I think it should be kept that way , as it adds a new level of suspense. Yes, it's annoying, but it's what makes it more challenging. :)

Only thing I would like to keep the M2/M3 's separate from the M1 's like it 's

done now in XP/BP.

The difference in experience and equipment between M1 and M3 is just too huge.

Still the M1 's should have a "Junior" competition between themselves.

This possibility should IMO also be added to the XP/BP format.

Perhaps Crits could be turned of in a Format battle? I would like that: equal gameplay and a lot less luck involved.

I like the idea of having a BP/XP format that allows one Smoky per team. 100% Railgun protection (total) per team.

Perhaps a better idea would be the option of turning on fixed critical chances. For example, maybe Smoky should reliably get 1 critical hit per 3 shots; this would make it predictable yet not too slow, and there's still skill involved in squeezing in those 3 (or so) number of shots before your opponent does.

Like your idea Trom!

Doing battles with the rapid firing Smoky would be awesome and would also be

a great trainingground for regular battles in the meantime. :)

Not sure how I feel about this format.  I was never a big fan of smoky anyways.  If you hit a critical and one shot your opponent, you get a free cap (Assuming it is 1v1).  However, 2v2, 3v3, and 4v4 definitely have potential.

Crits aren't 1-hit-kills anymore

LOVE the idea. Smokey m2 is also only available at colonel, so most probably the owner was buying it intentionally as opposed to buying something on a sale because you had extra cry. Or maybe that's just how it was for me. IMO smokey m2's are a lot harder to maneuver than XP as trom and others have already mentioned. Ideally, it would be awesome to have a separate format for that, but if not, tournaments would be awesome :)

That would make combat pretty slow. Non-critical Smoky shots don't do a whole lot of damage, so it'll take a while to destroy enemies.

I kinda like this format, but the problem is crit hits make it matter of luck rather than skill....

Agreed, for Smoky users Crits are great fun in regular battles and are what makes Smoky unique:

but they should IMO be turned off in Format Battles where skills are supposed to rule.

Even completely predictable shots would still involve an element of luck and it could

also interfere with another important benefit of Format battles:

The skills learned in Format battles can and should be easily transferred to regular battles,

and in my view learning to fight with some fixed crit doesn 't translate that well to the

nowadays more predictable: but still random Critical.

As said before in this topic: it would definitely take too many regular shots to kill each other.

That 's why an easy fix would be to simply raise the damage of a regular shot

in a Smoky-Format battle.

If the Devs can do that, that is.

Wouldn 't it become like a sort of Thunder-Format battle in that case?

No, because the fast reload of Smoky or any other stat. shouldn 't be tampered with.

It 's the fast reload, fast rotation of the turret and the impact force that you can deliver

ánd have to deal with, that will make Smoky-Format gameplay an almost guaranteed success!
