Creating the Tanki Ultra League

Recommended Posts

I'm definitely not the first one to say it, but Tanki leagues, no matter

which one, are boring as all hell with all their restrictions. Every match

is pretty much the same, the only variable that decides who wins and

who loses is sheer dumb luck, no strategy whatsoever other than just

pick the limited weapon of choice and try to shoot the other guy before

he shoots you, if you kill him just advance three steps forward, rinse

and repeat until you get the flag, and run like a sissy back to base...

We need to have an unrestricted league where players can trully

show off their skills, both as individuals and as a team. We need

a Tanki league that would allo for those possibilities, and what other

league would it be than:

THE TANKI ULTRA LEAGUE

With all the hulls, turrets and upgrades allowed, players would be

forced to deal with the unpredictable, instead of having to deal with

the same type of battles over and over again. However, this league

should have only one sencible restriction: NO DRUGS ALLOWED,

both through supplies and through pickups. That would also help

force players to use skills and strategy. Yes, we might end up seeing

fully upgraded players, but once you are fully upgraded, you can't

rise above the ceiling, so it is fair game for everybody...

EDIT: I missed out on explaining how the league would work.

Since most leagues strictly deal with CTF, The Ultra League would

be the only league to deal with all three team modes combined:

CTF, TDM and CP.

A duel between two teams would be decided in three sets.

1st set would be the TDM set, three battles 15 minutes each. The

set goes to the team that wins 2 out of 3 battles.

2nd set would be the CTF set, three battles 15 minutes each. The

set goes to the team that wins 2 out of 3 battles.

3rd set would be the the tiebreaker in case both teams won a single

set, it would be just one 30 minute Control Point battle, and whoever

wins that battle wins the overall duel.

This way teams would be competing in all three team gametypes, adding

variety to the competition, and with it providing the definitive proof of which

teams are the overall best teams in Tanki's entirety...

It is rather boring that most if all leagues focus on CTF :/

Well, last night I had a minor discussion regarding Tanki leagues,

and apparently, it's not all about the gametype (mode). As far as

I have been told, all of those seemingly pointless restrictions are

there to streamline all the leagues into some kind of weird sport,

and CTF happens to be the most convenient mode for it, for two

obvious reasons. It is by far the simplest mode to keep score in,

and it is the only mode that forces players to confront each-other

directly by heading to the enemy spawn in order to win...

To me, it is rather stupid to streamline a game with variety into

a narrow configuration roster and call it a sport. If I didn't know

better, I'd say that someone on the top decided to start drafting

separate leagues to act like Olympic disciplines, effectively

treating Tanki Online as an Olympic event, and honestly, these

"Olympic disciplines" are an "Olympic failure".

It is like somebody took a good look at Football, and decided to

create two separate sports and call them "LeftBall" and "RightBall",

where the only difference would be which leg the players are

allowed to kick the ball with... seriously, that's just stupid, but it's

the perfect analogy for Tanki leagues...

First of all, this game has a small community, way too small

to be properly treated as an eSport game. Yes the number of

players might be high, but the developers clearly aren't realizing

that more than two-thirds (70%) of Tanki accounts are multi's.

Second, eSport matches are made for wider audiences, so even

those who aren't regular players can watch and enjoy them.

Tanki is the only exception to this rule, because it's "eSport

battles" are relevant strictly to the devoted Tanki community,

and nobody else outside of it.

That's the reason why something like The Ultra League has to

exist, so the rest of the world can see what this game trully

has to offer...
