Hello, tankers!

You might recognize this topic, as it's not the first time it is created! The original creators are @Therider and @GoldRock. @Remaine and myself decided to re-open this topic, as it sadly got closed some months ago.

What is it?

A Skype group of players who wish to get involved in discussion on various issues. A 'motion' will be put forth each week, and then discussed, with the winner(s) of a debate being elected by vote of registered players.

How is a winner determined?

After each debate, there will be a vote of people who registered themselves beforehand. The criteria for success are:
- Good conduct;
- Good grammar;
- Convincing arguments;
- Reliable sources.

How do I join?

Send me a PM including your Skype name, expressing an interest to take part.

What are the requirements?

Everyone is welcome, as long as he/she fits these requirements:
- Must be mature (it is recommended that you should be 14 or over, due to the controversial nature of some of this discussion);
- Must be willing to contribute to discussion;
- An interest in making use of, and improving, your debating skills.

Members:

To become a member of the society, send me a PM , including your Skype name. Once having become a member, you will be able to take part in debates and be a member of the jury.

 Pre-arranged debates:

Date:
Time:
Topic: Ideas from members regarding the future topics to be debated are always welcome via the PM/Skype form.
Neutral: Just be there at the start of the debate, and follow the entirety of it. The vote will take place at the end of it.
Yes: Contact me and @Remaine via Skype or PM if you wish to take part in the debate.
No: Contact me @Remaine via Skype or PM if you wish to take part in the debate.
Summaries you made of the debate are always welcome, and will be added to the debate balance sheet.

Members:

Top Debaters:

No top debater yet.

Previous debates:

No previous debate yet.

The nitty-gritty:

Motions will be put forward every so often, primarily ones with two sides to it - upon doing so, members will be able to decide which side they would like to choose. They can pick one of three sides.

Side 1 - Neutral - Side 2

Those on the neutral side will not be a part of the debate, and will instead be granted the opportunity to vote on which side argued better, if they choose to do so. The side with the most votes will obtain the win! I'll remind you that each voter should be judging on this criteria:

- Good conduct
- Good grammar
- Convincing arguments
- Reliable sources

Prior to the debate beginning, players are allowed to conduct research in order to gain some more insight regarding their side of the subject, or just for reliable sources. Players will be told when their time for research is up.

Members should absolutely not post sources as their only part of the argument - members should be prepared to explain why this source is relevant.

The debate will continue until one of the hosts (either @sirogo or I) announces that closing statements are to be made. Each member of the debate must do so - upon this happening, the debate will end, and the voting will begin.

I will join the debate, but is skype obligatory because my parents don't let me talk to strangers on the internet lol.

I'm sorry, but Skype is obligatory as we have no other place to organize those debates.

So this debates happen on skype? and if so how can we listen to it ?

It will be written debates, not vocal. If you wish to take part in them, I'll just need your Skype id so you can become a member.

I'm sure in due course they will introduce vocal debates but at this beginning stage they just want to get going. Vocal debates take a lot more preparation time, we tried it  previously it came up with an engaging debate on the motion "Does god exist?" although, in the recording there were some problems so no upload was done. Anyway, does  anyone get this problem where they are typing and then back space takes you back to a previous page you were on or it goes to another part of your previously written sentence and overrides it; it keeps happening to me today.

P.S love the new look and the details sorts out the issues of the previous society, cant wait for some engaging debates. (Took me 10 mins to write this due to the problem)
