[Issue 52] [Interview] German Tanki Meetup

As some of you may already know, the German Community holds a real life meetup for a weekend each year. Here's an interview about it, originally published in the German newspaper.

In the German Community, we have the tradition of organizing an offline meeting once a year. This year, the meeting will take place during Tanki’s birthday, and dozens of players will once again meet old friends, and make new ones. Last year we had small competitions where participants could win a few crystals. Let’s have a chat with event-planer, the organizer of the whole event, to find out more about this year’s event.

Hello event-planer! Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions!

Hello. I’ll be happy to tell you all you need to know!

Over the past few years, clans have taken up the tradition of showing up all together as a team. Will there be a competition to see who has the most members this year too?

Yes, this year we will once again have the competition for the largest group. The largest group that books under its group name before the 3rd of March 2016, and whose members have transferred the participation fee by the 11th of March, will get 50 000 crystals. And this year there is still the possibility to get some more crystals. We have a 6th room. Some players have already shown an interest in it, but nobody has registered yet. This means I can promise 20 000 crystals per person to the first group that signs up for this room.

What about the players who have already announced their presence? Are they at a disadvantage?

Not at all. Players who have already registered, count in the competition. It must be specified that this is only for registrations by players who belong to a group or clan.

Who has already announced that they’ll be coming?

Beside the players, some helpers have said that they’re coming. We will have moderators, administrators, and a community manager. I’m pleased to announce that we also have quite a few girls who have promised to come.

Last year we intended to play a game, but unfortunately the plan fell through. Will we be playing it this year, and what can people expect?

Yes, we’d like to have the game we prepared for last year. Last year we didn’t manage, as many participants didn’t have the time to participate. I won’t give away anything here, but we’re expecting this game to be a lot of fun! And we have a prize of 100 000 crystals for every member in the winning team. Runners up will also get a prize. We expect a tough yet amusing competition.

The meetup will take place during Tanki’s birthday, and there will likely be events in Tanki to celebrate this. Will we able to take part in the birthday events while at the meetup?

There won’t be any functioning W-Lan connection. If there are events in Tanki, it would be difficult to access the game on the Saturday. But you can always play Tanki on Friday before you come, or on Sunday once you’ve gone home. We will try to have a mobile internet connection, so that people can buy things if there are discounts. Since most people have Internet on their mobile phone, they can also use their own hotspot. However, even if there is an increased goldbox value, or fund multiplier in-game, here you’ll be able to win 100 000 crystals! And discounts will come again, but being able to meet up with your friends in person only happens once a year!

Over the past few years, players have received gifts from Perm. Will this be happening again this year?

We have had confirmation that this year we’ll once again be getting T-Shirts from Tanki, and they’ll be made especially for us! But there’s a catch. This time, the order must be made a lot earlier, to make sure it is ready on time for the people who have signed up. That’s one more reason to sign up early!

Since there are still open slots, can people sign up late and still come?

At the moment, about 50% of the spots are still open. During the past few days, some more registrations have come in. But since this time we cannot book extra rooms, I recommend you register as soon as possible!

During recent years, there has always been tasty food at the meetup. Can we expect it again this year?

We had very good catering at the first meetup. At that point we were still in the grill hut. During subsequent years we kept improving, and this year we will also work something out. People have already been sending us ideas, and we’ll be thinking of a few ourselves too. And if anyone has any more ideas, please contact me via PM. In any case, we will be offering dinner upon arrival on Friday, and an all-you-can-eat breakfast on Saturday! We’ll also be having a grill again, and definitely some tasty cakes!

In the announcement, there were pictures about climbing in the forest. Where will this activity be happening, and how can we participate?

The climbing area is about 50 metres from where we’ll be staying. If you’d like to participate in this activity, let us know ahead of time so we can organize suitable equipment and staff. A small contribution towards the costs involved will also be required.

We do not have a swimming pool this time, so no phones will get soaked. But there’s a spa close by. How far is it to get there?

The spa is almost on the same property. In fact, we’ll be sharing the same car park as the spa. It will be a nice opportunity to go and relax for a while, particularly for parents who are accompanying their children.

What else do we need to remember?

Because Herbstein is a health resort, there will be a small spa-tax per person. For the weekend, this will be 3 euros for adults, but for teenagers and children it will be cheaper. This must be paid as soon as you arrive.

Slippers/indoor shoes must be worn in the houses. Outdoor shoes must be left at the entrance, so everyone should bring some indoor shoes. Also, remember to bring your own towels and bedding (a sheet, pillow cover, duvet cover etc).

This was a lot of new information. Can we also see it in the announcement?

Of course, I’ll be happy to add it.

The German community would gladly welcome anyone from the English community who would like to come. (It might be easiest to get to for anyone living in Germany, or the surrounding countries) More info can be found and questions asked here: Tankitreffen 2016

Thanks for reading!

Make one in New Zealand

We might get 10 people to turn up :D

The entire population of NZ right there.  :P

We have this three times a week in Cambodia, seeing as my friends and I are probably the only Tanki players here . We've got 11 players in our town.

But seriously, the EN community should have something like this. Maybe a separate one for each country.
