Changes in the section!

Recommended Posts

Dear friends,

We've just made a few changes to the Ideas & Suggestions section. These changes are meant to help us better escalate your suggestions and ideas to the developers. From now on all Ideas & Suggestions topics will be subject to the following:

1. The new topics in this section now undergo pre-moderation.

This means that when you post a new topic, you won't be able to see it right away. One of the forum moderators will check it first, approve it and only then it will be visible and available for discussion. This will mean that the section will no longer be flooded with locked topics containing unreasonable ideas or simply flood.

If your topic does not get approved, you can send me a PM to find out the reason of rejection and to get the content of your topic back if you want to edit it. Most topics will be approved within two days, but please only send a PM about your topic if at least a week has passed since you posted it.

2. The topics now have a status tag in the title.

From now on some  topics will see their title edited to include one of the following statuses:

[Planned][started][Completed][Declined]. These tags will serve to indicate the current status of ideas or suggestions posted. All other topics without a tag in the title are assumed to be [under review], meaning that the idea has potential to be added to the game, but no actual plans for it yet. The [under review] tag will only be included in the mod's post inside the topic. Also, we will be more strict with topic titles to make finding topics using the search tool easier, so do expect to see us change your topic's title to fix grammar mistakes or to better reflect your idea.

3. Each topic will have a reply from a moderator

After approval every new idea's second post will have a moderator's response to the idea. The post will contain the idea status tag mentioned above and any comments about the idea, or, for rejected ideas, an explanation as to why it can't be added to the game. At the bottom of the post there will be small text containing abbreviated search tags for the idea. Those will be there to help us find the idea later.

4. Rejected ideas will no longer be locked.

We figured that the forum is a place for discussion, so locking improbable/strange ideas is not the best option. If your idea gets rejected, we will now reply in the topic with an explanation as to why your idea is rejected and add the corresponding tag in the title, but other than that you will still be able to discuss the idea anyway!

5. Valid ideas no longer get archived

From now on only ideas with the tag [Declined] will be moved to archive after three months of inactivity. All other ideas will remain in the main section, since an idea topic being inactive does not mean that the idea is no longer applicable.

6. The section rules are on top of the page.

Anyone coming to the section is now be greeted with the section rules.  This is to make sure you have seen them before making any new topic as the rules will dictate whether your topic becomes visible or not.

This topic is open for discussion for the month, so feel free to comment what you think about these changes. Your feedback is very much appreciated :)

Suggestion to ease overcrowded servers and games to reduce lag.

Servers to by divided by Rank for auto logging in,.  That is all ranks are assigned a server for log in purposes..  Starting at server 1 for recruits, last server for Generalissimo, severs in between to accommodate all other ranks as equally as appropriate. Players can move laterally to adjacent servers to play against ranks that hat they might normally play but no more.  An example, Generalissimo can not move to recruits server or any server below a certain rank, the same for recruits, they can not move up to Generalissimo or higher than any rank they might normally play.  The rest can move up or down a server or more but only as far as playing ranks they might normally play.

At my rank, I can at the moment set new games to play against ranks as low as 9 ranks below mine, this is plainly ridiculous.  The number of ranks above or below ones own should be sensibly fixed.

The maximum number of players in any one game need reviewing.  It is far too high, especially by default.  When I set games, I try quieter servers and vastly reduce the numbers.  When I do this their is no lag.  Lag only occurs in oversubscribed servers and games.  At the moment we have full servers and maximum subscribed games while other servers are empty or almost empty.  We need spreading out to reduce load.  This will also make looking for suitable games so much faster because each rank will only have a limited number of severs to choose from when playing.  Players can still see their friends of appropriately  similar ranks.

Was this implemented because of RIDDLER_8 ?

No, this was planned a long time before he even started posting topics :)

Simply awesome. Now all those tankers who never knew why their topic was closed will see a reason for it.

My suggestion is that when you say duplicate topic. Idea has been suggested before and use the search option. Please give us the link of previous post which was the original as the search option is 'kinda hard' for many to use.

And Congratulations to Mafioso for getting his desired nickname :D

First off, this topic is not for gathering suggestions/ideas in general.  We have the whole section for that, and we'd love to see 1 topic made for each idea so its easy for all of us to keep track of things.

This current topic is just to gather feedback on the changes made and how we can improve on it within the limits of what we have (i.e. very little)

As for your suggestion for server lags and the issue there, first let me thank you for constantly bringing it up each week.  We do see it and you can rest assured of that.  As for the issue itself, developers already have some much more elaborated ideas of their own for addressing the server problems, but, sadly this won't be an easy of speedy thing to implement.  We will have to bear with them.  But the good thing is they are working on resolving that.  As promised a few vlogs ago devs will update us on the matter when they have some progress to share.

Now lets please keep this topic on topic :)

Thanks

I suppose that their are so many strange an unintelligible request and endless replies to them it would not be too bad an idea.  On the other hand we readers will not be able to decide for ourselves weather some ideas ae good or bad because they will be censored.   Censorship is a very ugly and clumsy weapon of suppression.  Happy to hear about the developments withe the servers, perhaps it is something to look forward to in my old age.

How will they be censored? The only ideas we are not letting through are completely absurd ones, duplicate ones and simply flood topics. Any idea topic that has even the slightest potential to be added to the game will be approved. Even rejected ideas will still be available for discussion, only they will eventually be subject to getting moved to archive after a period of inactivity.

Better to make the tags coloured as in the main post. It would look better :D

We tried to add separate tags to mark each post (similar to the "popular post" tag that gets added to a topic with 500+ likes), but it doesn't work on this forum. We can't make text in the title a different colour, so we'll just stick with this for now, but we might figure something out later.

4th of May update:

We decided that the [under review] tag in topic titles is redundant and makes the list of topics difficult to read. Thus, the [under review] tags from the topics will be removed and will only be present in the mod's post in the actual topic. We are only keeping the other four tags: Declined, Planned, Started, Completed, since these tags are much less common. Therefore any idea without a tag in the title is automatically "under review", meaning that it has potential to be added to the game, but no actual plans to add it yet.

I would also like to explain the search tags that I've been inserting in my posts since this update. For later on, when we need to find ideas of certain themes and send them over to developers, the tags will help us find all idea topics of a particular type, for example all ideas for the interface, or eSports, or chat, or friends system.

The tags are abbreviated to make sure we only get relevant results when searching, e.g. when we need ideas for the interface, we search for "intf" to find the idea topics only, because searching for "interface" will yield many irrelevant results comprising of topics that simply mention the word "interface". The tags are made in a dark font, meaning that you're not supposed to read them or pay any attention to them :)
