Kit Review: Boar

      2vmu7vs.jpg

Alright. It has been a while since I have written anything for the AWG, and I bought the boar kit on my alt about a day ago, so I claimed the Boar kit review on our nug mult AWG chat (much to @TheRollingSlab's chagrin). While most people that are maybe about to read this are high ranked, this will hopefully still be helpful in choosing what to get on lower ranked folk's accounts along with alt accounts. I will go over the individual components of the kit, and then how well it works in games.

Component Review:

Ricochet M2

Ricochet M2 is, just like any M2 at the Lieutenant ranks, strong. It has an incredible auto-aim angle, and once a shot is fired, it will most likely hit a target (as long as it was fired in the general direction of a tank). I have never used M1 or M3 rico, so I do not know how this compares, but it works very well in battles. I have, so far, played a lot of Poly CP and Noise CTF, and in both, I have been consistently ranking in the top 3, without heavy drugging. However, when compared to the other turrets in the similar M2 kits, Rico does not quite match up. Twins (from Minotaur), and fire (from firewall), both will beat rico in a 1v1. Ricochet M2 gets a solid A-.

Dictator M2

In my mind, Dictator M2 is the highlight of this kit. It has the same protection as titan M1, which is one of the best hulls at this rank range, and is, despite the size, easier to maneuver than Viking, thanks to a quick turning speed. Dictator is very tall, which means that, when paired with the crazy auto-aim angle of ricochet, you can shoot just about any tank in Polygon from inside the crater. On top of all of this is the incredible gold-hunting abilities of Dictator, which I will get to in a bit. Unlike ricochet, when compared to the hulls in similar kits (Viking and hunter from the same 2 kits), Dictator is worthy competitor. It has slightly more protection, and a similar-ish speed, so it can easily match up with a hunter. Dictator M2 gets an A+

Sandstone

Now, on the the disappointing part of this kit. While it does have 4 protections, its highest is 20%, against Railgun. While Railgun is common, Dictator is still a 3 shot from an M2 rail. I almost don't even want to mention the other protections, but they are 14, 15,  and 5, to thunder, shaft, and twins, respectively. The silver lining of Sandstone is that it is an M2 xp/bp paint, so if that is the path you are wanting to go on, there is that. Along with this, when compared to rustle and blacksmith (which are both around the same price), Sandstone is dwarfed, with both having multiple protections above 20%. I will also mention the price. Sandstone runs at about 80k crystals, which adds quite a bit of crystals to the price of the boar kit. Sandstone gets a D-.

Overall combination

Of course, having two individual great things can always combine to make something horrible (look at @RIDDLER_8's favorite combo, consisting of Mammoth and Isida M3). However, Ricochet and Dictator have a synergistic effect (wow! big word!). As mentioned in the dictator section, the height of Dictator and the auto-aim of Ricochet make it easy to hit most people. The only downside of the combo is that, when flipped on it's side, Boar is unable to get back on it's tracks on its own. I found this rather disappointing, but the good parts of the combo cancel out this one bad part. The combo gets an A.

Battles:

CP

The type of battle that I have, so far, used boar in the most, is Polygon CP. And, so far, Boar has not disappointed. I played like a no-lifer since I got the kit, and have earned 13k crystals back already (largely due to the help of 5 gold boxes, which I will get to later). When playing with equal and lesser ranks, I was often the top dog in the battle, because it is easy to deal damage to a lot of people. There is not much to say about this. CP effectiveness is an A+

CTF

Along with a lot of Poly CP, I have played some Noise CTF. Boar is, by far, the best combo I have ever played with in Noise. There are a lot of great opportunities to use the ricochet trait of the gun, meaning that it pulls ahead of fire and twins M2. Along with Rico working great in Noise, Dictator is unstoppable. With a double armor equipped, it is super easy to glide past defenders (literally, because you lag on top of them), and it can even withstand a few mines. Dictator is, as a defender, very scary. Unfortunately here, Sandstone does not give a whole lot of help, except for the thunder, and sometimes shaft protections. CTF effectiveness is an A+.

DM/TDM

I have grouped these together, because TDM does not really need anything said about it, but I did not want to completely neglect it. Boar is very good in DM battles. In fact, I was playing a battle against M3 Brigadiers, and was getting kills toe to toe with the top players in the game. Rico is great for kill-stealing, and we all know that kill-stealing is the name of the game in DMs. As you can guess, if I was doing well in an M3 DM, Boar wins in equal ranked battles. DM effectiveness is an A.

Gold Boxes!!!!

Ok, now for the part we have all been waiting for- gold boxes. Simply put, this is the best gold hunting combo I have ever used. In fact, in the day that I used it, I was ranked number 61 globally with 5 golds. Dictator lags on top of other tanks, has a huge hit-box, and can also easily use ramps to get on top of piles, due to its long body. Rico, while it does not really add a whole lot, can kill someone who is killing you before the gold, and also has some recoil, which can be helpful. Gold box effectiveness gets a mediocre 452%, or an A++++++++.

Price:

Boar is rather expensive. However, as long as you have budgeted your crystals well in advance, it is definitely reasonable. I am expecting to pay it off in a few ranks, because it gets golds easily and also gets large portions of the fund. the price gets a B+

Grade Card

Overall, I would definitely recommend this. I have played against people using this kit on my main account, and it was still pretty decent then. It is pretty even with minotaur, but firewall does, in my mind beat out boar. You will not regret this kit- it is quickly going to pay itself back, through the golds and dominating battles.

Thanks for reading! Special thanks to my alt @jwimmer2, and also to Cedric Debono for bein da man (totally not trying to make you like us and give us a 50% sale  :P).

All these turret, hull, paint and map names are proper nouns Jwim, start em with capital letters. Other than that, well written! +1

However, Dictator doesn't 'lag' on top of other tank. Dictator only gets on top of other tanks because they are lagging. If we lagged on top of someone, there is good chance our PING is simply too unstable to catch the Gold box. O

Great article! One thing I would change though is Sandstone's grade, I would say somewhere in the "C" range would be appropriate. When I played with it I found the protections quite useful, given Thunder and Railgun are the two most popular weapons at that rank.
