Paint Separation Update

I'm going to be beginning a series called "Update Overview". I will make an article every time Tanki Online goes through a major update. Try not to cringe and enjoy!

Paint Separation Update...what is it?

The Short Answer: An update great in theory but sucks in execution.

The Long Answer: This is a paint that separates the protection modules (e.g. Swash LGC protection module) from the visual paint.

Here's how they executed it:

- Every paint you own becomes separated into a protection module for the paint you own (e.g. 10 Railgun Protection for Forester LGC module) and the visual paint. (e.g. the worst looking paint *cough cough* Holiday Paint)

- You can combine any visual paint with any protection module. I could use my Orange paint which I so cherish and combine it with Zeus LGC (fantasizing, as I don't have Zeus LGC and due to this update, never will [insert-crying-face])

- There are new protection modules: single protection, double protection, and triple protection modules. No quadruples though =(

- Every protection is equal in these modules. Instead of, let's say, 100 Railgun, 90 Shaft, and 80 Twins, it'd be 90 Railgun, 90 Shaft, and 90 Twins.

- Protection modules now have modifications!

- Visual paints are now too expensive and a rip off.

- Buying a kit only gives you a visual element, but gives you a 24 hour discount that disappears if you buy a paint. (Paint discounts based off of kit discount)

- Pressing the "R" key will let you see everybody's protections, modifications of equipment, and even Micro-Upgrades!

Could it have been better?

The Short Answer: Of course!

The Long Answer: Yes, this could have been done better. Here are a few changes I suggest (not that they'll take suggestions seriously anymore, but in theory k?)

- Instead of making this new protection module system which makes our legacy modules useless, they could have done this: Assume everything is the same price. Let's say I buy Zeus paint. (#Fantasizing) How about, we get the module and the visual element, and can switch it around however we want? This would make Tanki, well, Tanki, and make things fresh but not make this an entirely new game.

- Add "V" and have it do the same thing as "R" because arrow key players matter just as much as WASD players, no? It'd be far more convenient instead of stretching my finger I just use my index finger sitting on "V" doing nothing and press it. (Small finger on "Z", ring finger on "X", "The Finger" on "C", and index finger on "V")

- Even if you wanted to keep these new modules and have the old LGC modules, at least make paints not cost more than equipment, will you Tanki Online developers?

"Exclusive" Interview

The Short Summary: Prices are insane.

The Long Summary: Here are the questions, and answers, coming from DragonOfStorms, F1ASC0, and myself.

Q. How do you feel about the update?

@DragonOfStorms: Overall, I'm OK with it. It needs some balancing and minor tweaks, but it's not terrible.

@F1ASC0: It's ok. I actually like this update. Sort of :P I just don't like the prices.

@BLASTER872: I admit, personally this update has been quite convenient! I was saving for Minotaur kit, grumbled to myself, "Just another month to wait..." because I was 40K away from it... And then they made Minotaur cheaper. So I bought it. The end. I still think it's way too expensive, I mean why would you buy a paint over an M3 Turret?

Q. What would you change about it if you had the power to change this update? (Including reversing this, OK)

@DragonOfStorms: I'd adjust what paints are in what kits, and what paints unlock when. I'd also remove the ability to know what paint/micro-upgrade level your opponent has. Those should be secret.

@F1ASC0: I would change the prices. They just don't make sense.

@BLASTER872: I'd make the paints cheaper. I probably would also commit to murder every kit and make new ones. Can't be that hard, lots of kits are now bad. Seriously, I'd actually just kill every kit and make kits with protection modules instead of useless paints.

Q. How would you rate this update? (out of anything, even out of 666)

@DragonOfStorms: 6/10. Needs some rebalancing, and I'd remove one of the features. Overall it's pretty good though.

@F1ASC0: 7/10

@BLASTER872: 666/1337

Conclusion

The Short Answer: This is worse than Premium.

The Long Answer: The article should give you a general idea.

Yeah, they killed the 15% premium. A small thing to me though so I didn't really include that in the article.
