August is over, and we've had another batch of spam articles submitted to the Amateur Writing Section - from guides and interviews to stories and reviews. As usual, we've got the best ones here, along with a few announcements and the usual rambling. So, let's move on, shall we?

Top 5 Articles of the Month

We had lots of awesome content submitted from the 29th of July to the 29th of August, but these five were the ones that really stood out. In no particular order this time round, we present... the Top 5 articles of the month.

1) Map Breakdown: Arena

by: @tony990_Superstar

TANKI BREAKDOWN

-ARENA-

Hello tankers, welcome back to another map breakdown! In this article I will be breaking down the map of Arena. This means I will be telling you how to survive on Arena, what strategies to use, and what are the best places on this map. Please refer to the map above if you do not understand what areas in the map I am talking about at certain points.

Read the rest of the guide here.

Tweezers: Another great guide, covering most of the strategies to gain the upper hand in Arena, all in a well organized and well written article that will be invaluable for those looking to excel in Arena.

Fen-Harel: Decent set of quick and concise tips that you can immediately apply in your game. Even though it has no visuals, the piece is structured well enough to not look like just another wall of text.

2) How2Fiction ~ The Abbadoom Way

By:

I'll make this introduction really short, in order to cut to the chase. There are several parts to writing a great fiction story, and each step is as important as the next. Now, without further ado, I'll profile said steps:

Step 1: Work out the plot.

You don't want to jump straight into a story without a plan. Before you start writing - or typing, you will want to write down the basic outline for said story. What powers does the hero have, if any powers? Is there even a hero? Who's the villain? What steps does the hero take, if any, to defeat the villain? Or, if the villain wins, by what means do they do it? Etc.

Go to this link http://en.tankiforum.com/index.php?showtopic=330358 to learn more about writing fiction.

Tweezers: A brilliantly written piece, and also something quite original. The example story was a nice touch too, and the explanations were spot on. All in all, thumbs up from this end!

Fen-Harel: I'm a fan of articles that relate to people, their motivations and their skills. This is just such a piece, as it describes the essence of storytelling. Really a decent read before jumping into the story writing sphere of the AWC. I've done a similar piece about a year or two back (although now that I look back at it, I should do a rewrite of it) - so I can kind of relate with it much more, too.

3) Snowfall

By: @Masquerade

The elevator doors flung open, releasing anxious prisoners to busy themselves with their bold and audacious tasks. Little did they know of an impending disaster, a disaster not of defined danger, but of concepts and numbers. One well-dressed man strode into a spacious office, carefully shutting the door behind him. The familiar sight of an ancient typewriter and a computer greeted him, along with a fresh new pile of paperwork. Pulling off a heavy coat to reveal a trim, perfectly ironed business suit, he brushed past the window, ignoring the frigid kaleidoscope of city towers. Settling back into a chair, eyeing the papers suspiciously, he decided to check the state of the company’s affairs on the computer before setting to work on the files. There was nothing new in his email inbox. It was all running smoothly: information about new press releases, the marketing department’s semi-annual report, news of a branch opening in Dublin. Everything was at ease, other than an email from Auditing marked as “Urgent”, but of course everything sent by Auditing was urgent.

Go to http://en.tankiforum.com/index.php?showtopic=332611 to read the rest.

Tweezers: Beautifully used language, coupled with a gripping plot that makes for a highly entertaining story. Definitely worth a read.

Fen-Harel: A somewhat psychological piece that you don't get to see very often. This is a serious and engaging short story that might even leave you with unease. 'Specially when you realise things like that actually happen to people.

4) Hurricane

By: @Blackdrakon30

Grant was falling. It wasn’t a bad feeling, merely quite unsettling. The ground approached, and he was nothing.

Memories swam hazily, attempting to gain attention. He and his sister Lillia were once again dashing about a yard, laughing joyfully. The world spun more and he was at school, watching as classmates mocked and injured him after standing up for her. Another dizzying swirl. His sister was in the hospital with a terminal disease. Lillia gave a weak grin, and his world collapsed into a vortex of sadness, like a hurricane of tears. She said three last quiet words that pierced the confusion: “I love you.” As she slowly inhaled one final breath, Grant closed his eyes and his reality rotated once more. The earth hurtled towards him, and he prepared to greet it as a good friend.

Tweezers: Dark, hard hitting, and including a lot of different advanced writing techniques that helped deliver the main theme of the story. Definitely a very thought provoking piece.

Fen-Harel: This month is really pushing the deepness vibe... If you're the type that likes emotional stories with serious undertones, this is definitely one you should give a read.

5) It's Time To Excel in: Silence

By:

Introduction:

Silence is one of the rather unpopular maps in the game. Before General , the number of Silence's in the lobby is generally greater. After this rank however, it is very hard to find a Silence battle which isn't formatted for Parkour.

It unlocks at Staff Sergeant  and can hold 20 players fighting in real time, well, if you excuse the mults who happen to be taking coffee bre-either it be 10v10 or in FFA. It is 29 x 24 meters big, with a total area of 696 square meters (m2). The layout of buildings is generally balanced towards the middle. Both the bases have their own pros and cons. Although the Blue team should be more productive since it is at higher ground (higher ground is always a bonus!)

Go to this link http://en.tankiforum.com/index.php?showtopic=333669 to learn more about battling in Silence.

Tweezers: An extremely comprehensive guide, featuring visually aided explanations of most aspects of battling in Silence. An impressive amount of work must have gone into creating this, and it takes a well earned spot in the top 5.

Fen-Harel: Lots of effort here. Well structured and detailed, with pictures to help the reader follow everything that's talked about. Some parts could use trimming in length and relevance, as they do get rather lengthy. Overall a great piece and definitely the best one this month.

Considering I only wrote 1 story this month, I had no shot, especially since it did not even get a like. Though the other articles mentioned were fantastic.

Edit: Actually, 2 likes.
