Star Reaper (pt 1)

They came in ships.

 

Not the flying saucer type, rather a gargantuan, impeccable, cylindrical column with a 200 foot antenna wafting off the ship as if it was a lifeless limb of the torso. At first it was as if there was no one inside the "ship", until the ensuing Saturday.

 

Friday: 8:32 A.M

 

I woke up 2 minutes late for my job. "This is the 5th time I've been late" I pondered. I arrived at the office at 9:24, and Wersher wasn't very ecstatic to see me. "Platt, this is the 5th time you have been late. If you arrive late one more day, you're fired!". Wersher didn't care he put about a pound of spit on me from his yelling, as far as he was concerned results were the only things that mattered. I longed for a day off of this horrendous place I call work, but I couldn't get any with all the late days I have been taking.

 

I was concentrating on the news, when It got disrupted from The White House, a static frame with the words: Do not switch your channel, stand by for an official response. Everyone in the office clustered around me for the announcement. After about 5 minutes the President got on and informed everyone: "We have detected a 200 mile U.F.O around northern Texas, it is advised that all civilians stay indoors, until the Military has taken appropriate actions." "So i guess i won't be going to work tomorrow?" I asked from Wersher.

 

Saturday: 3:49 P.M 

 

Wersher let me off work today, which means this is already a marvelous day, no matter what...

 

I gazed out the window, looking at the "ship" about 20 miles from me, except something made the "ship" seem peculiar. The underbelly of the ship had opened up to form a cannon-like figure aimed straight at downtown, and at around 3:52 the cannon loaded and shot an immense, brilliant laser down at the city, and in the blink of an eye it was obliterated. I stood there dumbfounded for about 30 seconds until another 100 cannons on each side shot out another stream of lasers all in a different directions (these lasers would eventually go on to eradicate the next 100 biggest cities in the world). As soon as the second wave of lasers disintegrated I packed my bags and dashed straight to my car. Apparently the end of the world still caused traffic jams, and it took 7 hours to get out to the country. I reached a gas station where 2 men with suits, sunglasses and phones were beaming at me as I refilled my tank.The 2 men approached me after ending their phone calls and asked: "Are you Joseph Platt?" I responded, "Yes. Why do you want to know?". To which they replied "We can't tell you now, but this is going to hurt a little bit". They took out a flashlight-like device, pressed it, and it made me unconscious with a single text burned into my head...
