Derusting: Chernobyl

Chernobyl. A Tanki Online map infested with Vulcans and Railguns, it can be hard to find when looking for servers, as it is not a very popular map. However, once found, it is common to see swarms of light/medium hulls rushing towards the center structure on the map, while Vulcans rain leads to everything from the side. In these scenarios, it is challenging to keep your D/L ratio above 0. But then again, that’s what guides are for – use this one carefully, and you just might get to first place. Or rather, stay in last place. It’s always good to hope for it, right?

Before We Start:

It would be helpful to have a reference picture with an image of where the supply drops are, where the capture points are, where the flags are, etc. Here you go:

The Guide Itself:

Light: If you intend to play on Chernobyl with a light hull, namely hornet or wasp, any turret will do, though for differing purposes. There is a generous amount of speed boosts scattered around the map, which helps light hulls speed away from danger, or otherwise become a threat to other enemies. Melee splash turrets like Firebird and freeze would be hard-pressed to stay out of sight of the ever-so-popular railgun combos but coupled with a quick nitro, is an effective killer in Chernobyl. More so when inside or on top of the central building, as said that structure is a hot spot for high-damaging ranged turrets that are vulnerable against melee in general.

However, the ranged towers can indeed fight back, as enough speed, coupled with good use of the viewpoint angle to ensure nothing sneaks up on you, can outfight the melee attackers while receiving a minimal amount of damage via kiting.

Overall, if you plan to play as a light hull, you will need to be able to outrun and therefore outfight your enemies – make use of the many nitro drops, and take control of the center structure. If you plan to go ranged, stay in the shadows and not at the commonly-used structures, and never be too wary of using mines to ward off faster attackers.

Medium: Medium hulls, like hunter and Viking, are viable choices in a Chernobyl DM, as the map itself is not too big. However, you will want to go with ranged turrets that reload fairly quickly, as you will be too slow to catch up to enemies with a high damage melee gun, but at the same time, not tanky enough to play as a turret with long reload times, like shaft or railgun. Twins make a lot of noise, so unless you are planning to either go in a Team Deathmatch or otherwise in a DM battle, it is not recommended to be a full-scale drugger. Besides, without the alteration, it lacks in range. Smoky, Vulcan, Ricochet, and if on a crowded map, Thunder, are more recommended for Chernobyl. Smoky for its relatively fast reload and damage output, Vulcan because of how well it compliments moderately-armored hulls with enough speed to get by, Ricochet because of the multiple narrow passageways in and around the central structure, and Thunder because there is sufficient space to run around in a medium hull, but not enough for enemies to stay adequately spaced apart. Essentially, for a medium combo, it is recommended to stay with at least one friend in team modes, and if playing alone, to play it safe.

Play as you normally would, hopefully with one of the recommended turrets, though to be fair, it is entirely situational, and steal kills more than chasing them down. You have enough health to deal with angry Railguns and Vulcans, but pushing your luck is never a good idea.

Heavy: Heavy hulls, like mammoth and Titan, are never an excellent idea on large maps unless of course, you plan to sit on the flag/point for the entirety of the game. There won’t be much to discuss here since DM is almost entirely out of the question unless everyone is using the same thing. Essentially, for team battles, heavier hulls are far more suited for defense and meat shielding more fragile teammates in an attack, but of course, everything is situational. There may be times where you will want to draw pressure off of a certain point by attacking with a formidable hull.

Otherwise, these items help quite a bit in Chernobyl team battles, if playing as a heavy hull:

Thunder, Vulcan, Shaft, Striker. All four of these turrets are reliable because of the multiple broken wall formations around Chernobyl.

The areas encircled above in red are: broken wall structures, with the exceptions of the tower and house at the bottom-right corner. Each one of these formations is viable to use for duck-and-cover tactics with team battles. Think of a Brest map-style sniper war. It is most common to see Vulcans hiding in these areas, so be wary if you are approaching by ground.

Of course, this is a very generalized guide that should not be taken word for word. If say for example, for whatever reason, there are a whole lot of hammers on the map, switch out to a long range turret and snipe them from a distance. If there is a cluster fight going on at a single CP point, grab the others. If nobody is at the center structure, feel free to call it your home. Again, the whole issue of “what-to-do” is very situation-reliant. If there was anything you found wrong about what I wrote down, don’t be shy, feel free to tell me where I screwed up so that I don’t screw up in that manner in the future.

Hopefully, this guide was a massive help, or at least some help – until then,

Grammatical errors:

  • Incorrect prepositions
  • Subject-verb agreement
  • I changed past participle changed into past simple
  • Wrong adjectives
  • Repetitive words
  • Active and Passive changes
  • Too long sentence
  • Unnecessary commas, and missing commas

I think you add too many colors; it hurts eyes a little bit. Maybe next time only highlights important words in color.

Overall nice guide :) keep it up!

Nice work Abs.

Another suggestion (as well as those given above) would be to use larger fonts for section titles, to make them stand out more from the rest of the text.
