Fortress Kit

First Rank Available: Second Lieutenant

Turret: Thunder M2

Hull: Mammoth M2

Paint: Rustle

Protection: Badger T-C M2

Price: 177,210 crystals

Breakdown of the parts

Thunder

Thunder is characterized by its nice damage per shot and the splash damage. After the update it now has enough impact force to flip light hulls and even medium hulls occasionally. In the right hands, all of these factors can add up to create one of the strongest M2s, and it is a terror to behold with a double damage.

Damage: 504.71-700

Reload: 2.729 seconds

Range of max damage: 60.59

Range of min damage: 121.18

Impact force: 265.29

Shots required to Destroy......

Wasp: 3-4 shots
Hornet: 2-3 shots
Dictator: 3-4 shots
Hunter: 3-5 shots
Viking: 4-5 shots
Mammoth: 5-6 shots
Titan: 5- 6 shots
Please note that these numbers are based on fighting against stock M2 hulls without protection only. Also, killing a hull in the least possible number of shots is rare, as you must be near max damage range and still get somewhat lucky. It is not advised to often try and get up in enemies faces with Thunder as the splash damage will damage you also.

Positives:

  • High damage
  • Splash damage
  • Decent impact force

Negatives:

  • Kinda slow reload
  • Can damage it self
  • Turn speed could be better

Mammoth

Mammoth has great armor, weight, and pushing power. It is also the slowest hull of them all. Before the update, it had the most armor out of all the M2s, but for some reason the developers thought it would be appropriate to give Titan more speed and armor. However, Mammoth's forward acceleration is superior to Titan's, making it a better overall camper in my opinion.

Armor: 2830.88

Speed: 5.56

Acceleration/power:  1235.29

Weight: 3117.65

What it takes to destroy a Mammoth

Firebird
4.77 seconds
Freeze
5.54 seconds
Isida
7.24 seconds
Hammer
4 shots
Ricochet
11 shots
Smoky
7 shots
Vulcan
6.71 seconds
Striker
4 shots arcade, 2 salvos or 1 salvo, 1 arcade shot
Railgun
7 shots on average
Shaft
6 arcade shots, 2 sniper shots (fully charged)
Twins
18 shots
Thunder
5 shots
( The numbers above are based on fighting stock M2 versions of the turrets. For Railgun numbers are based on average damage per a shot. For Smoky, based on no critical hits. For the rest of the turrets the numbers are based on being in maximum damage range. Therefore most of the time you will survive even more shots or time (in the case of Vulcan) from the turrets listed above.)

Positives

  • Large amount of acceleration and pushing power
  • Heaviest tank in the game.
  • Great armour
  • Very hard to be pushed off of a goldbox drop zone

Negatives

  • Slow top speed
  • Less armour than Titan

Badger T-C

Badger T-C is a great module for this kit. It reduces the damage

taken by 25% from Isida, Freeze, and Thunder. Freeze and Isida are threats to thunder when up close and Thunder protection reduces self damage. Also Thunder is very common after the update, so the module is truly priceless.

Mammoth can survive the following amount of damage from Isida, Thunder, and Freeze with the module on.

Isida 11.11 seconds

Thunder 6 shots

Freeze 6.93 seconds

(The numbers above assume that you are fighting stock M2 versions of these turrets. It also assumes that Thunder is dealing maximum damage with each shot, so you will often survive more than 6 shots from Thunder.)

Positives

  • Great fit for the kit
  • Protects from thunder and reduces self damage

Negatives

  • Weird protection spread for most other combos
  • Lacks Rail or Firebird protection

Rustle

Rustle is a paint of quiet beauty. No, it's not flashy like Electra, Spark or Atom. Nor does it have the intricate detail of Blacksmith or Hohloma. But the gentle transitions of yellow to brown are just as beautiful in it’s own way. Also, rustle can act as decent camouflage in a lot of areas, which is something the others can’t.

Camouflage rating

Urban areas( noise, red alert) no camouflage offered

Snowy grass( variation of regular grass) no camouflage offered

Desert maps(Desert, Iran) 8/10

Snow areas( variation of regular grassy maps) no camouflage offered

Buildings(found on most maps) 6/10 on yellow buildings only

Plants/dead grass( found in most maps) 9/10

Grassy areas.( found in most non winter maps) 7/10

To summarise the illustration above, rustle best provides camouflage in grassy areas and yellow buildings. It also provides excellent camouflage in desert areas and dead grass. I find it to offer the best camouflage however, when the tank is hid in large clumps of plants, as the changing hues blend in well.

The Kit as a whole.

The Fortress kit is one of the most intimidating looking kits in the game. One thing that might factor into this fearsome image is the fact that it looks most similar to a tank in real life. The other factor is probably the sheer strength and power of this kit. I find this kit to be best when camping in a spot near midfield, or defending base. It performs the best in medium maps, where it can often camp near base and still play middle field. It can perform well in large maps as long as it can find a nook or cranny to hole up in near middle field. If you can’t find one, plan on staying near base. Remember, just because you have a lot of armor does not mean you want to be out in large, open spaces. You will have a hard time getting back to cover due to your slow speed  and your range is not sufficient to fight enemy Shafts and Railguns.

Positives

  • Large amount of armor
  • Decent damage per shot
  • Can damage many tanks at once
  • Great for golds if you can get a spot under the drop zone
  • Often the most important defender
  • Great for improving K/D

Negatives

  • Very slow speed
  • Less armour than Titan
  • Out damaged by most turrets when they get up close
  • Can damage itself

How Fortress performs in each game mode.

Capture The Flag:

Fortress often finds itself as the most important and clutch defender on the team. That is because if you find a nice spot to camp, you often get the first and last shot at an enemy tank trying to steal your flag. Thunder suits this role well, as it can still do damage to the flag carrier even when it is surrounded by other tanks. Also, you can kill an Isida who is healing the flag carrier while still damaging the flag carrier. This means you are often high up on the score board as long as a steady number of enemies attack your base.

Team Death Match:

Fortress is a great combo for most modes, and this one is no exception. Thunder's good damage per shot and explosive damage allow it to rack up many kills and support points. The one problem you may face is finding enough victims while camping, so you may have to move around to locate some. One solution to this problem is only play in small and medium maps, or camp near choke points.

Control point:

Fortress kit is perfect for eliminating enemy defenders at point, however it is hard for it to capture points itself. The reason for this is obvious; Thunder is great for killing grouped up enemies, but is horrible at close range. Also, Mammoth's speed does not help it here. That is not to say you will not get a good score, just be aware that you will rarely get as many points as the people capturing the points.

Deathmatch:

In medium and even some small maps, Fortress can easily win Deathmatches. With Mammoth’s great armor it can stick around for a while. With Thunder’s damage per a shot and explosive damage, stealing kills is a breeze. When you see to tanks fighting, just shoot when you think they are both low on health and bam, you just got a double kill. The one thing you will have to work on is timing, but you can often still get one kill even if you don't get two from these situations.

Well, that's all I have. I hoped you liked it even if it’s a little on the long side. (I only tried to include info I think you tankers would find useful). Also I had included some pictures but it said that that type of picture is not allowed so I could not add them. Please leave any suggestions and let me know if you would like me to write any more reviews. Thanks!

Well done, I definitely enjoyed the well-rounded coverage on the kit. I made a few edits that Acno missed, just small ones.

- Remember that apostrophes are used for possessives, not plurals.

Examples:

Mammoth's speed makes it challenging to cross large maps. (I am referring to the speed that the Mammoth possesses)

The Fortress kit is good at destroying Mammoths. (I am referring to a group of multiple Mammoth hulls.

- Also remember that the turret and hull names are proper nouns and therefore should always be capitalized.

I found some other very small errors myself.

- Capitalised a few more turret names.

- Rephrased a sentence to make it clearer.

- Again, the apostrophe is uses for possessives. M2s are M2s, not "M2's" in a plural sense.

- Also remember to include apostrophes where necessary.

In terms of pictures, try uploading them to a site such as Imgur or Photobucket then copy/paste the "Direct" link using the image button.

Good article though. I like the detailed statistics which are often not fully explored by many writers.
