Penalise team-kill in friendly fire mode like self-destruct

Recommended Posts

It's as simple as the title explains it. When a player kills a team mate in battles with turned on friendly fire, then this should be handled like this player has made a self-destruct. This means, the player that shoots him gets -1 kill and -5 EP, while the killed player gets +1 death. I think this is also the way, how teamkills are being dealt in other games.

This is intended to make players think more carefully about when to shoot and it shall show that it is a misuse of the FF mode as it is not the aim to kill team mates. In some situations it may be necessary to kill a mate (collateral damage in critical situations). If you do it, you have to bear the cost for it. I think for those players that like the FF mode (if there are any around at all) and see this mode as an additional challenge for Tanki, this way of dealing with, it is a further way to play more intelligently. For saboteurs (who like to abuse this mode) it is a clear sign, that they can't benefit from these actions anymore.

Hmm. Agreed. Maybe bigger penalties, not ban ofc until its seen that it is indeed a deliberate sabotage, but the SD penalty is too little. Also, I can see you would need to kill teammates for strategic team benefit in occasions xd

Yes, the reason it was removed in the first place is because there was virtually zero consequence in killing your own teammates. Adding a significant penalty should make most tankers only use it strategically or accidently (usually the latter :P).

i think i killed a team m8 once by mistake in FF mode and then for some unknown reason i got a self destruct ,

anyway team kills shouldn't be penalized since the whole point is to master the art of not killing ur team m8

and u will have to kill him many times until u master that art. so penalizing team kills in an already very rare battle

Mode will make it even rarer imo.

another note if team kills are penalized then ur penalty can be defeated by shooting at team m8 till he is almost dead

And then let the enemy do the rest.

Good point.

I've an idea:

if today a kill is shared between 2 players, each of them gets a share of the 15xp; lets use this mechanism:

example:

+9xp for TankA and +6xp for TankB, if they both together kill TankX.

+9xp for TankA and -6xp for TankZ, if the both kill TankX

This sounds a bit contradictory to me. You know you have to master something if you get penalties. Also if the mode is rare, it is rather because that there are no penalties, which lead to increased saboteur activity.

I think the self-destruct penalty is a balanced penalty between deliberate teamkilling saboteurs (at least for the moment) and accidental teamkills (i.e. due to DD thunder shots of a team mate).

The whole point of adding FF was to make people aim property and learn to hit only enemies, enhancing the skill of the game. By adding a penalty FF would become obsolete as no one would risk penalty over a mistake. It would also widen the gap between pros and noobs in terms of points and leave them with practically nothing

And I still don't get why the friendly fire option was added in the first place

All the original starladder games were played with friendly fire = on.

It makes the gameplay harder (which is a welcome feature for pro's) and gives a new perspective to XP/BP because of the railgun's penetration.

Even in normal battles you have to judge, if your shot towards the enemy will harm your teammate (if you miss, if you have splash, fire, ..) and so it is a nice gamemode.

I think they outta make the penalty larger. Or Warn the player. The feature in my oppinon is to penalize trolls.

They are always a shooting team mates pushing and shoving.

I honestly think you outta lose 20 xp (or 2 kills worth) when you kill a teammate.

Because lets be honest.

1 kill isn't gonna hurt anyones feelings but if you start taking em by the multiples of 2 - welp they may change thier mind about what they are doing.

I also seen a idea where someone said to make the dmage counter Yellow so we can tell I like that idea.

Because  I know some automatically think its a enemy bc it is doing damage. Even though you should see the teammates status bar....

I sometimes fight friendly fire battles with friends, and of course I do not mult or sabotage.

But still there I shoot them sometimes; sometimes I even have to shoot them (they are flipped, they lined up with the enemy flagrunner that is going to cap and if I do not shoot he caps, they ask for a freshup of their reduced health).

to cut 20xp is too much.

Properly aim... Freeze and Firebird?  See lots of those in the FF battles and I died a lot from my own team.  Good times.

Also, if you can't aim by rank of General, well then... <_<

EXACTLY THE POINT!

Only cutting 10xp wouldn't fix the issue. Why shoot teammates they just have to hit Delete and it SD them in 5 seconds!

The whole point is to REMOVE mults and players who sabatoge. Even with Friendly on the rules still apply.

They did just release it so hopefully a penalty soon.

I was also thinking after a large amount of times you get booted.

like lets say 25 times...

Can you please explain me, why you punish players for performing a necessary tactic that benefits their team?

(shooting with rail through my buddy, killing mhim maybe, in order to take out the enemy flagrunner and prohibit an enemy from capping)

You  DO NOT NEED to shoot your own TEAM -

There should be no gains from killing team mates you should be punished. PERIOD

Sabatoging your Team is strictly prohibited by the game rules.

Games that have friendly fire usually have pretty hefty penalties including increased respawn time deduction of points etc. It is being real generous if they add it of 10 or 20 xp loss. Wanna help a team mate that is flipped? Either help them at request or let them self destruct.

2.1.5. Sabotage — Any acts or omissions aimed at creating obstructions for the team where the User is a member, including in CTF, TDM and CP modes, fighting against the team of which you are a member (intentional selection of weak equipment, frequent pauses, inactivity or intentional failure to comply with map’s or game mode’s requirements, imitation of issues with internet connection), damaging/destroying an ally’s tank, fighting in the interest of the opponent’s team (conspiracy);

You  DO NOT NEED to shoot your own TEAM -

Sorry, this is simply not true for XP/BP.

there are situations where I can

- either shoot my teammate to take down the enemy flagrunner

- or I spare my teammate and the enemy flagrunner caps the flag

- and there is no other option in this particular situation

You will see this once you played more XP/BP and become a Legend (my account here is an alt, I already have a Legend ranked one).

Killing teammates is one example of sabotage, but every xp/bp player would agree that it's ok for him and the team, if you accidently or intentionally shoot him, in order to take down an enemy flagrunner with that shot too (if you can return of course)

This means, the player that shoots him get -1 kill and -5 EP, while the killed player gets +1 death.

Would be a good way of minimising the population of mults.
