Pesky Alt Accounts - What To Do?

Recommended Posts

Like many of you I’ve cultivated several alternate accounts over the years. I started my first one thinking I was going to steer clear of the many mistakes I had made on my main account, like buying too many low modifications turrets and hulls. I eventually realized that my main would always be my main and that those noob mistakes weren’t that big of a deal.

Later I started two additional alternate accounts and repurposed the first, all as experimental accounts to get familiar with turret / hull combos I didn’t yet have on my main. Shaft/Titan, later Thunder/Titan, later Twins/Viking via Minotaur kit. Vampire and Stinger kits on another. The third Hunter/Firebird via Firewall kit.

But thanks to 50% sales, my Legend 6 main now has a full garage, most of which is M4. So why have alts?

Simple - alts are more FUN.

Sure my main has more options and better equipment, but then again so does every other Legend. At the Lieutenant ranks, my M2 alts are fighting M1 and at best freshly minted M2s. Bottom line, I can generally do very well with these alts in battle.

But do they have a future? One thing is for sure, Ranking these alts to M3/M4 will compete directly with my main, and that’s just not gonna happen. So how to maximize the fun with these M2 alts?

My answer - Micro-upgrade my M2 equipment to near M3 stats without actually buying the M3 modifications. Why? At the Lieutenant ranks no one has M3 equipment, and so long as I rank slowly, I should be able to micro upgrade to near M3 power by the time most of these alts make Captain.

Then there is protection modules. Thunder M2 unlocks pretty soon. How do I know? Because every joker with a Major or Colonel account is coming into battle with Thunder. So I’ve also bought Kodiak T-A and am micro-upgrading it. Thunders (Rail and Fire too) can come at me. They can’t bite as much as they think they will.

Since very few M2 tanks in these ranks are micro upgraded and I have no intention of buying M3 modifications, I’m turning these alts into M3 powered M2s and cleaning house. I’m relying on missions for crystal and supply income and sales for inexpensive MUs. It’s slow going but the rewards are already happening. I’ve been accused of hacking already when other players realize how powerful these accounts are.

Good times.

I don't have any alts that I use. Cannot bear the thought of doing everything all over again. I'd much rather make my main account OP, 50k drugs full M4s etc.

I agree.

Back when I was lower ranked, older, wiser and more experienced players warned me that higher ranks were boring and that I'd better enjoy being low while it lasted. I thought they were joking at the time, but actually now I can see where they were coming from.

Higher ranks just tend to be battles full of M4s that either spew drugs or can't turn their turrets. You have plenty of annoying mults, plus there is no stimulation to play all that regularly. XP/BP is fun and so is playing with friends, but it's a lot more enjoyable at low ranks. Everything seems a lot...more honest somehow. Not sure how to explain.

Anyway, I love playing on my lower accounts. I would definitely not be able to rank one up to Legend again, but I might hit the intermediate ranks at some point.

Does not take long to get to mid-ranks... can measure it in months.

Your main account will be playing a lot people who have same thing - so - is it really OP?

Sure against those with newly ranked Legends (like me) - yes - but there are many that are also on your level - so at best it's even playing field.

10k supplies... 20k supplies... 50k supplies... what's the difference?  Never be able to use more in one battle than you (or opponents) probably are already using.

All of that is completely true. But still, creating another account seems pretty monotonous to me. I might change my mind at some point but for now I definitely don't have the time to maintain a chain on another account.

Can't disagree there - it is a bit of work maintaining the weekly chain.  No idea how people can do this on 4 or 5 different accounts...

I can in one hour keep mission chains going for four accounts. That’s four missions using four different turrets on four different accounts. It’s actually a lot of fun, due to the variety. I’m also exploiting the mission system and free change to get easy missions like collect supplies and then looking for battles which are about to end/refresh.

Since about half of those missions pay crystal rewards, my income per XP is pretty high, meaning these accounts are crystal rich by the time they rank, which they are in no hurry to do.

This also means I get to open twelve containers a week o_O

That said, three alts is more than I would recommend. If you don’t have an alt already, I would suggest creating one and only one and play it through to the upper M2 ranks.

I like playing on my alt now.

I made it ages ago but stopped at 1st seg, cbf starting over again.

Then i got bored of my main acc and started playing regularly on 17 August 2017. . Stop for 2 months due to exams.

Came back mid November and started playing more on the alt.
Learning from my mistakes from my main like u said buying too many low modifications.
But i see my alt potentials to out beat my main with a better garage.
Funny how i caught a alot more golds than my main

Yeah, alts have a lot of potential now. Missions didn’t exist for the first two years on my main. Paints hadn’t separated into modules.

It’s a different game.

The old approach of focusing on only one turret and hull combo doesn’t really hold these days. Newer accounts can afford more. If you take your time and rank up slowly.

Looking back now, my biggest mistake on my main was probably ranking too quickly. Human nature makes that a tough problem to solve on a main account. You always feel like you are missing something.

But this game barely rewards rank ups. Really, TO punishes ranking. Everything just gets harder and more expensive. Whee....

My main is too deep into Legend ranks for an alt to catch up much less surpass it.

Good luck!
