Revamp Permission Groups

Recommended Posts

Hi folks, I have just ranked up to Warrant Officer 1. Without even looking to see what I unlocked in my garage, I came here to submit this long awaited suggestion.

Many of you folks know me, and that I enjoy this section. I was not able to post until now do to my group. It may be my problem that I ranked up too slow, but I suggest the rules be changed to make it more fair. I found where Tanki gives a reason for these groups system:

The forum users are divided into 3 groups, depending on their rank: Beginner, General and Advanced.

- Beginner (from Gefreiter to Staff Sergeant) — can leave comments in “News and Announcements” and in the Beginner's Zone

- General (from Master Sergeant to Sergeant-Major) — can leave comments in all sections of the forum

- Advanced (from Warrant Officer 1 to Legend) — can create topics and leave comments in all public sections of the forum

  • Beginners are not able to give likes to post and topics.
  • General users can give 10 likes per day.
  • Advanced users can give 50 likes per day.
  • Advanced users are able to hide their posts and topics.

What is the reason for having 3 different groups?
This allows players of a higher rank to have more permissions on the forum. The main reason for this is to help guide new players into the forum, as well as decrease the amount of flooding, phishing and other violations which may occur by players who create alternate accounts solely for this purpose.

If the reason is to guide new players into the forum, than if a player comes to the forum at a higher rank or at a lower rank, they should still need a lower permission for guidance! Many players with few posts, make a lousy topic, simply because they are not used to how it works here. Since they have a higher rank they don't get training.

Also, the topic mentions that players might create accounts solely for the purpose of spamming. So if a player has several alternative accounts at a high-enough rank, they are free to spam. But players like me, won't spam since they have too many quality posts (AWS pieces) to want to give up their account.

So my suggestion is to revamp the permission groups, that you must have a certain amount of posts (50) and forum usage to access full forum permissions. Until then they need the 'guidance' for new players in the forum. This will apply no matter how high of a rank they are when they start using the forum.

But for players of lower experience, they can apply for full permissions after reaching 150 posts. Since there aren't to many players, each should be easy to quickly check that they are not just spamming away, and they can be approved for full permissions.

Please don't Decline this for lack of players who need this, since this just makes sense, and if few players need this, their applications can be reviewed quickly.

Thank you.

Might be possible once we upgrade the forum, but definitely won't be changing anything now. The rank limitations mostly work, since the vast majority of players don't even consider using the forum until they are a higher rank, while the lowest ranks usually either come for help, or to spam. If they need help, they can post in the devs' info section, but cannot post new topics or reply elsewhere in order to prevent spam. The amount of malicious spammers with high ranked accounts is fairly small, so they're not much of a problem.

Your case is a bit of an outlier, since I honestly don't remember the last time we had an active forum user who was below WO-1 rank for a long time.

What was the reason for the sudden shift in policy?

Nothing, we just realised the old policy was outdated. Your feedback played a role in that.
