Silence: Battlefield... Wasteland... Home
I take a deep breath. I sit in my tank, waiting for the moment when I enter the battlefield. Although I have fought in countless battles, destroyed countless enemies, and emerged victorious, I have never felt so nervous in my military career. I look again at my mission briefing packet. Game mode: Capture the Flag. 5 flags. No time limit. Map: Silence II. As the desert town emerges in the distance, I see how much it has changed during the war. I would know. This was my home.
The town of Silence was founded after a rich oil reservoir was discovered underneath its location. Many people seeking jobs in the oil industry flocked to this town, including my father. I was a mere child at the time, and I easily adapted to my new home. I still remember the hot summer days I spent with my friends. However, as time passed, conflicts broke out and war loomed on the horizon. To protect this oil under our town, a military establishment was constructed across the street where I lived. Barracks and factories were built to accommodate the new inhabitants of our humble town. On a fateful day, war has broken out. Food, clothing, and many other things were rationed. Everyone lived in constant fear of battle coming to the town. By this time, I was a young adult, already starting to work at the oil refineries, trying to support my family. Once in a while, tanks would roll through the main avenue on their way to battle. For a while, the war seemed far away, never seeming to come our way. Soon, this changed.
It was late afternoon when the enemies came. Klaxon sirens blared from the fort across the street, telling the townspeople to evacuate. In the bustle of the evacuation and the ensuing battle, I lost my family. I never saw them again. As we all were ferried away in airplanes from the town we grew up in, smoke and debris obscured the oil towers and other landmarks that were familiar to us.
Soon after reaching safety, I was drafted into the military. I learned to use the new powerful tanks developed by Tanki Weapon Productions. The officers were awed by my sharpshooting skills. Many an enemy fell to my long ranged assaults. As I rose through the ranks, I obtained better tanks, better guns, and protective paints. These added up to my ultimate battle machine, a Railgun mounted on a Titan hull. I mastered combat on all the busiest battle zones; sniping at Kangur, picking off enemies one by one at Madness, obliterating other tanks at Fort Knox. However, I have never visited the busiest location of them all – Silence.
Now, as a Warrant Officer 3, I switched to Mammoth for a hull and am impossibly close to the best gun of all -- Shaft. I still suffered from frequent bouts of homesickness. I still constantly shy away from battles at my hometown, bringing my battle machine elsewhere. But, I figured I have to face my demons one time or another, so I signed up for battle. As I have learned, the town is contaminated with radioactive residue from Railgun and Thunder shells. Additional platforms for sniping have been added, and the ramp to part of the fort has been modified into a bottleneck. In fact, they are calling the town Silence II, as the town has been completely renovated for war. I snap out of my memories as I arrive at my hometown. The battle has already begun, as bouncing plasma balls and radioactive Thunder shell fragments fill the air.
I am determined not only to fight, but to win. As the hot and dry air flooded through the tank’s ventilation system, I inched my way forward, firing my Railgun to destroy an enemy right off the bat. I clench my hands around the steering mechanism, promising myself that I will fight at my best, to fight for what’s mine – my home.
