25.03 — Changing equipment in battles!

Lots of Like! :) (For changing set-up function) Not sure about the ability to browse other battles while you're in another one. This might lead to lots of people being paused while still in a battle, stopping new players from entering but not contributing anything to the battle themselves.

March 20 - Disabling team kick

Having suffered at the hands of co-ordinated kickers, I'm glad to see this go. I want to ask about people complaining about "noobs" joining a game. Surely it's ok for someone to join a game if the ranks are set to allow that? Is the problem that some maps force a wide range of ranks? I can understand that Generalissimos might want to create a game solely for that rank, perhaps the system should allow that. The problem with tighter rank ranges is that it reduces the available games for someone to join as the servers can only cope with 3000 players at a time each. Should we have dedicated servers for different ranks? Should the chat function be taken off the gaming servers so that only people who want to play battles will go on there?

    Update 220, 227 — Changes in maps

I think it's inevitable that there will be people who like/dislike the changes. Personally - and at the risk of being lynched by all the Silence lovers who have posted - I never liked that map, so I'll have to give the new version a go. I tried the new Highland and thought it was good, but it is more open now and may not suit some people. I enjoy playing a variety of maps, playing the same one each time bores me, so I'm all in favour of changes and new maps. Thanks developers. :) :) :) :)

Micro-upgrades review by NBAHbI4 and ArchangeI

Wow - the maths really doesn't work does it? Thanks for this. I'll save my crystals!

Micro-upgrades review by NBAHbI4 and ArchangeI

Good videos - thanks for taking the time to make them. Some questions/comments: 1. Why do the MUs become more expensive but less effective? I don't understand the reasoning behind this. 2. Is it worthwhile just concentrating on one pairing of turret and hull? In other words, don't spend anything on upgrades (micro or full) to any other configuration, but spend everything you earn on improving the set-up you've got. 3. One of the main attractions of upgrading is to get a discount off the next full upgrade, but MUing paints doesn't give any form of discount off more advanced paints. Is it worth doing?

    Halloween is coming!

I'm saying that's one of the ways that a game can generate revenue. It has big disadvantages as you have to persuade people that the game is worth buying. Unless you've already got an established brand you're looking at a hell of a lot of advertising to do this.

No. I love that it's free. The fact that you can get access to all the levels etc without paying anything is great. It's so much better than those games which will let you get to level 5 or similar but that then demand payment. Having free entry encourages new players to join and keeps the whole thing ticking over. (I'll save you the details of different models for attracting people to websites ;) )

    Halloween is coming!

I think these discussions miss out on the economics of the web. Here's my view of the bigger picture. A site like this has a number of options to generate revenue: 1. Subscription - they charge a monthly or annual fee to play 2. Entry fee - similar to buying a game for your Xbox etc. 3. Advertising - getting money from companies to feature banners, pop-ups, messages or in-game stuff such as posters in the game graphics. 4. Paid upgrades - create a system that offers enhanced game-play for those that are prepared to pay real cash for it. You can combine these options or rely on one alone. Tanki uses option 4, the paid upgrades. They offer the chance to buy crystals and therefore have better equipment than other opponents. The upgrade packs that even allow access to equipment reserved for higher ranks is an obvious example. One way to encourage people to purchase crystals is to offer discounts - the two-for-one card etc. The upgrade sales also fall into this category. If you've got your eye on an upgrade and there's a discount but you don't have enough to buy it, you're more likely to spend cash in order to get the required number of crystals and take advantage of the discount offer. I really don't have any problem with this. We get to play the game for free and it's up to us whether we buy crystals or not. If you look at the new FIFA14 they charge you to buy the game and then sell you coins too. Personally, I'll continue to play without making a purchase, and enjoy a great game for nothing. OK, it may take me longer to get the upgrades I'd like, but I respect the fact that the designers are entitled to make money from their labours and it's my choice. Complaining about the size of the discounts offered seems churlish in the wider context of the game.
