Part 3: Discovery Of the Truth I saw in his eyes, his confidence to pull the trigger. One of the men emerged from the door with an iron pole and charged at me. Suddenly Boris shouted “Duck!” , I fell to my knees and Boris shot down the man that charged at me. The other man at the door motioned to his radio to warn others, but Boris shot him before he could even reach his radio. The air was filled with the smell of blood and smoke from the machine guns. Boris looked at me like an intruder, then he laughed an evil laugh and shouted at me “Run for your life….or I shall kill you”, he pulled out an assault rifle and pointed it at me, his fingers eager to pull the trigger. Deep inside me, thoughts were flooding my conscious mind..I couldn’t move. All the good times me and Boris had had together……memories fade away before my eyes. He shouted again “Run or die!.” I then realized he wasn’t one of us anymore. I got my feet under me and started to run though I was very weak. My legs won’t listen to me anymore, I kept falling as Boris fired bullets started darting through the air. I had reached half way down the stair as I tripped and fell for one bullet pierced through my left calf. I looked back as he has stopped firing. Then I witnessed the unimaginable. My friend Boris or the person that was once my friend pointed a pistol to his head , ready to pull the trigger. He mourned his last words “Forgive me for I am a traitor to mother Russia.” “Bang!”, came the sound of the pistol as its bullet punctured his head. I could see him falling down like a ‘ragdoll’ tumbling down the stair. My mind was empty, ears ringing, struggling to breath as I saw the ‘brother’ I came to rescue lying dead before my own eyes. Then a sergeant from the the 4thInfantry divison broke in and picked me up. I was half unconscious from the shock I got from what happened earlier. The battle outside was over. I was dragged through a stream of blood with dead bodies and ammo lying beside me. I could see two tanks of the Germans cracked open like a tin can. Suddenly I heard the roar of a helicopter engine. I was left unconscious. I woke up in our camp. I heard commander Nicolai barking orders as usual. I was knocked out for 2 days. Suddenly everything stopped. We heard strange noises of machines. We stared at the forest, as Hitler’s army emerged through the forest, tanks running over trees, heavy artillery trucks following. We dashed to man our battle stations. At the moment we saw commander Nicolai moving towards the advancing German army. I could see him talking to Hitler who came to pick him up and destroy our base. Nicolai was too a traitor. My face turned red as anger conquered me. I ran towards Nicolai shouting “ You coward”. The German army stood there pointing all the guns to me. A man then emerged from inside a truck, covered his face with a metal shiny silver mask. It was…..
