I don't enjoy playing regular battles anymore because I don't have the supplies, nor the money to invest in buying them, to even be remotely competitive. Even with equipment that is over half way micro upgraded without supplies you are slaughtered. The new modules mean that even if you start doing remotely well scarcely using supplies, the strongest players on the enemy team will just use protection from your turret.
This means players who've sunk all their earnings into slowly upgrading one turret are made completely obsolete by players, often much lower ranks, who've simply bought their way to victory. Frankly regular battles are just too pay to win, In my opinion.
I have a couple of alternative accounts which are very well equipped for their ranks, and unfortunately the situation is very similar at those ranks too. I've bought kits on these accounts in the past, but there is always someone who's outspent you, someone who has better equipment, more supplies and more protection modules. No matter how wisely you invest, how well you play, someone will always be on the enemy team who's spent just that little bit more.
What decides victory in regular battles is literally just who's bought the most.
TL;DR: play xp/bp
(Edit: pro battles without supplies are always an option but the number of maps you can find are limited and often favor certain equipment)
