I would say that the bedrock community is a mixture of both. Lets also not forget the players who come in quick and check out the game, most of them leave the game fairly quickly, but as long as buyers have there fun destroying them, the game lives on. also I would like to make the point that if this game does die out completely, I dont think the devs would care to much, as they would just turn all of there attention on to the new game they are making, "King Hardcore".

Everyone acts like this game is going to inevitably and completely die sometime in the foreseeable future. Looking at other games in a similar spot to tanki though, this probably just won't be case. Games like Town of Salem, Fer.al, and Realm of the Mad God just to name a few, have already hit what I like to call the "Bedrock Player Base". These people are going to stick with a game regardless of the twists and turns of the development process. As long as there is a substantial number of people in this bedrock player base, the game will live on. From the looks of it, Tanki has quite a few. Yes the amount of players has been declining, but eventually it will plateau, meaning we are left with the bedrock players. By all means, I am not defending the game here, I'm just pointing out my observations. Don't forget that the Russian community has a far more different opinion of this game than the English speaking community does. Otherwise, very well written, and engaging to read.

This is the reason why online tanki became a P2W game and the community is getting smaller and smaller.

Completely removing every element of the game one could argue as being "P2W" would dramatically change the game as we know it. Basically they would have to remove Mk system, and remove micro upgrades. Have every turret, hull, protection module, and drone be set to one specific value that cannot be changed. The ranks would no longer limit what level you could buy things at, but just be a purely statistical symbol showing your many hours dedicated to the game or your skill level. So basically, the second you make an account, you already have access to the best version of smoky and hornet possible, and crystals would really only be used to expand your turret/hull/protection/drone arsenal. Supplies would be infinite, or just wouldn't exist at all. That really only leaves skins, paints, and other cosmetic items being purchasable with real money. Is this community really large enough that the game would be able to exist with players only purchasing things that don't give them an advantage in battle? -
So... this just makes camper drone obsolete?

you activate it right as they are about to shoot, so the 5 seconds plus however long it takes for them to reload. Also I would rather take the 5 seconds than 0. honestly anything would have been better than the over used meteorite golds. I don't think anyone actually likes them. -

yeah but the outline is html5 exclusive again, yes, some of the changes were nice, but at the cost of removing invincibility was not worth it at all. dont be fooled by the dev's nerf in disguise as a rebalance. I think because you don't even have mammoth m3 (on this account anyway) you're not aware of how mammoth mains like me used mammoths overdrive. I would often activate it as a safety net from an overdrived viking or hornet, or to obliterate everyone inside a titan dome. It's no longer usable for the first usage i mentioned. playing with mammoth now and taking advantage of its overdrive is extremely situational now, mostly only being usable as an anti-close range defense. the speed boost is nice, but again, the deadly combo of invincibility plus speed boost is no more. fully healing is literally only useful if you use camper drone and like mammoths overdrive cooldown time as a better healer than dictators or titans. the full health heal honestly just makes mammoth feel like a weaker juggernaut. I guess the most annoying part about it all is the fact this was ONLY implemented because mammoth was too good at taking meteorite golds. this was a quick fix, and they didnt think about how badly it would hurt mammoth as a viable hull in general. Also, it didn't even really solve the issue, as all the gold hunters just switched to titan instead for immunity from the meteorite impact. and I wouldn't even dare question the devs about just coming up with something other than meteorites falling from the sky for every single event or holiday. -

I forgot the players protection stays when they become juggernaut. so yeah, even then hornet is usable. revealing enemies outline is an HTML5 feature only i believe, but yeah i agree i didnt put hunter originally because i pictured in my head the two hulls within a distance that the mammoth would still damage the hunter. But looking back I see that situation is rare, so true, in most situations hunter would win against a mammoth with activated overdrives. the update did add benefits to mammoth, but it takes away 80% of what made mammoths overdrive useful, the invincibility. thats equivalent to taking away the reload aspect out of vikings overdrive in exchange for a slightly quicker overdrive recharge time... but nobody plays with mammoth outside of goldbox hunting extravaganzas so nobody complained when it got nerfed, and they all just switched over to titan instead. Unlike what the reaction would be if they did a similar update to a hull like viking. -

for all of you who still dont see the problem, look at it this way... lets compare one hulls overdrive verses all other hulls overdrives: Wasp is weak against: hunter, titan, hornet Hornet is weak against: viking? Viking is weak against: titan, hornet Hunter is weak against: viking, hornet, (mammoth?) Dictator is weak against: literally everyone lol Titan is weak against: mammoth, hunter, hornet Mammoth is weak against: viking, wasp, hornet I guess you could argue viking might beat hornet is most situations, but they're pretty evenly matched. It honestly depends who activates first. Mammoth used to be the only hull that could withstand hornet, but thanks to some people complaining about to many mammoths during Halloween event, the hull has been nerfed to the point its garbage. The ONLY time hornets overdrive is useless, is in juggernaut mode. but that alone i don't think justifies how OP hornet is. -
So instead of just making a simple fix like, i dont know, perhaps just letting the meteor golds or whatever they are called just ignore mammoths invincibility, we instead make mammoths overdrive become next to useless? Viking and hornet are now going to be more powerful than ever. You guys already nerfed mammoths overdrive once, it did not need to happen again. Or just come up with something more clever than just having golds come in the form of meteorites/rockets/christmas trees. Whats even funnier, is that after this update, those same players were just using titan instead, since it also can survive the blast. Essentially nerfing mammoth did nothing to resolve the issue. freeze is garbage after this also. Since its parameters are basically below average across the board, it heavily relied on the fact it could actually freeze its enemies, but this update basically took that aspect away... I like the vulcan and striker changes however. It certainly does not outweigh what you guys did though to mammoth alone.

hmmmm a couple previous posts on this topic were deleted. interesting. here I am, defending the game, yet my posts get deleted... anyway to summarize a lot of the opinions here; OLD GOOD NEW BAD

A lot more likely that the losing team has a fighting chance to come over the winning team. like I said in my response to SamGamgee, overdrives are a big game of rock paper scissors. if your opponents are predominantly using viking, perhaps you need to switch over to titan or hornet since both of those hulls have overdrives that are pretty good against vikings. I think every tanker can afford to have at least 2 hulls in there garage that are at the proper modification for their rank, so switching hulls shouldn't be an issue. The jumping ship issue I think lies in a lot of players seeing that they dont stand much of a chance of achieving first or second place, for the stars, so they just leave. I will admit I did that also when I was grinding for the challenges in the summer when I had the time. FYI - I mained with mammoth almost my entire tanki career, and when I bought titan I was surprised at how much better I was doing all because of that speed difference. yes, the other stats do matter sometimes, but the majority of the time its about speed. if you complete the challenge every month, thats 70 tankoins, plus if you do all your missions every week, thats 72 a month. in total, you get 142 a month.

being able to turn the tide of the battle is exactly the point of overdrives, its to help losing teams have a chance of actually being able to fight back. They are the one consistent thing in battles, no matter what rank you are or the turret your using. if your losing a battle, you need to reevaluate what hull your using and make changes accordingly. overdrives are honestly just a big game of rock paper scissors. hunter beats titan, titan beats viking, viking beats dictator, etc. look at the hulls your enemies are using and switch to one that will beat theirs. as for the mixing of turrets through alterations I completely agree with you. I find it absolutely disgusting that tanki thought it was ok to take away what was unique to some turrets and give it away so freely to others. alterations should have emphasized what made that turret unique, not cross over with other turrets. good think only a couple alterations do this. outside of those few alts, im pretty happy with the alterations in the game.

old but gold. I genuinely have yet to see someone who dislikes overdrives and plays well with them yes, sometimes a team will stay dominant for longer or for the whole game, but the opposite is a lot more likely to happen as well, as overdrives, specifically hunter and mammoth, can help a team not only recover but take back the battle. Honestly because overdrives for the most part are pretty balanced, I have not seen much a difference in the "putting battles out of reach" in MM after overdrives were introduced. Also overdrives were necessary so players would actually considering using other hulls besides viking. After all, without overdrives why would you ever use a titan over a mammoth? or hunter over viking? they have the same health but one is significantly faster. inb4 "bUt ThEy HaVE WeIGhT DifFeREncES" the turning speed, weight, and power differences are so subtle that the amount of times those features were more important in a given situation would not have outweighed how much more important speed is. I totally agree and honestly I kinda hope a larger chunk of the community will make the switch away from MM to just only playing pro battles. I feel like a lot of players feel obligated to do those missions and compete in the challenges but those aspects of the game are totally not required. tankoins are significantly more valuable at the lower ranks than the high ranks, the kits are cheaper. If you were to start a new account now, you would be suprised how much tankoins you have gathered when you reach around the midranks. I bet if you played right, you could probably afford a shop kit with them by around the captain rank.

WoW and runescape both now have there own legacy versions or old school versions that brought them back from the dead, yes, but I don't think were going to see those games disappear any time soon now either. I would have lost interest quickly in this game if I wasn't so eagerly waiting for that overdrive update. If you don't like overdrives you just don't know how to use them right, sorry the truth hurts. They added a whole new dimension to the game, just like alterations. Also I believe firebirds afterburn thing was necessary to simplify firebird to make it more easy for the addition of firebird alterations. Tanki has answered a lot of the requests of the community, like bridging the gap between buyers and nonbuyers through tankoins. Pro battles are going to be free soon and the battle list will return. Also this game will always have that bedrock player base that will keep the game alive. Look at games like RoTMG or ToS, they already reached the point which most of us would consider "dead" but they continue on.

you guys are forgetting that Tanki used to have a HUGE hacking community, and when devs actually stopped all that they all left. Everything from phishing links offering free crystals for account passwords to people fly hacking in opera browser for golds. also EVERY game has a revival stage, right now were just in the storm before the rainbow. Peoples nostalgia will get to them and they will pick up this game once more. Minecraft just went through it, and so did WoW. any game that people spent a huge amount of time grinding on in there childhood has a special place for them forever in there mind. and Tanki was definitely one of those games for a lot of people.
