I'm not even going to bother asking how someone I haven't heard of stalked up my old nickname less than 24hours after I have changed, when people on my friend list had struggles figuring out who I am. -

Interview [New Year Special] Winter Around The World
Vivianne replied to Vivianne in [New Year Special] Winter Around The World Newspaper Archive
Hello fellow avid Newspaper readers! Last year, @Flexoo did an interview with active forum users about Christmas and the holiday season. We have decided to keep the tradition going, so here I am presenting you an interview about winter in general, but in different countries! _________________________________________________________________ Welcome everyone in the second "round table", as we could call it. To break the ice, could you please tell us a bit about yourself? @TSY_the_crazy Hi, I'm a nug forum spammer from Luxembourg. I'll prefer to keep my details private but I can tell you that I'm a male. I'm currently being held hostage by the Newspaper team with a gun pointed at my head. @Coldplay My name is Jason, I’m a 17-year-old aspiring vet student. When I’m not either frantically studying to pass my upcoming A-Levels or out desperately trying to acquire the necessary work experience, I enjoy many sports including football, cricket, indoor and outdoor rock climbing and running. I also work 2-3 shifts a week in a local restaurant, as a waiter. I played both football and cricket competitively up until fairly recently, but owing to an arm fracture (got cleaned up by a two-footed challenge from a centre-back while counter-attacking) and studies, I’ve not really found the time to get back into it. Before A-Levels killed of any desire whatsoever that I had to study, I loved mathematics and the sciences. And of course, from my time as a Reporter, you should know (I hope) that I like writing a lot. And of course, I enjoy video games. Where Tanki is concerned, I’ve finally managed to control myself (for the time being anyway). Hello, my real name is Mohamed but I never use it, so you can call me Medo as others call me. @Magenta Hello, people. I'm Magenta, commonly mispronounced (intentionally, most of the time) as Magneta. My name is Evans. I'm aspiring to become the pro-est writer in the community, and I'm already a pro in battle. I'm an avid reader and writer, enjoy taking pictures and making banners, and tirelessly surf the forum (although it's kinda empty these days). To sum it up, I'm an extraordinary supertanker ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). @Marc Hello, believe it or not, my name's Marc (who'd have guessed?). I enjoy playing cricket in particular, which I play several hours a week competitively. I also currently serve as a Wiki Editor, Tanki Thinking Challenge Lead Riddler and Reporter Candidate. I’m Isaac aka Reverse, I’m 17, and I’m from NY. I️ enjoy boxing and playing sports, as well as spending times with friends and family. I️ used to play Tanki a few months ago, but I️’m taking a long break from it, it got boring in my opinion. @Nikk Hello, my name is Nik (Nikk in-game, previously known as katekizem). In this game, I've done a lot of things already, but currently I am an Event Organizer and EN Livestream team leader. Appart from that, as parkour is my passion, I am a very proud leader of The Flying Parkourists. I was also a judge in several contests before, among them was Masters of Parkour 2017. Since winter traditions depend on where you come from, would you mind telling us where you live, so that we can get an idea about your country’s traditions? @TSY_the_crazy Luxembourg, a small country sitting between France, Germany and Belgium. Believe it or not, we have our own language which no one uses. @Coldplay I’m from northern England, though I was originally born in Scotland and lived there for a time. Fortunately, I lost my accent relatively quickly after moving South xD. In Qatar. @Magenta I hail from Eastern India. @Marc I am from Australia and it's actually summer here. Whilst some European countries get snow, we're in peak summer with temperatures of around 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) to 45 degrees Celsius (115 Fahrenheit). Born and Raised in NY, my family is predominately Hispanic and Black . @Nikk I come from a small county in Europe called Slovenia, which I personally think is a very, very beautiful country that I really enjoy living in. You guys come from all over the world, but unfortunately, snow doesn't fall everywhere. Are you guys lucky enough to have snow during the winter season? @TSY_the_crazy Yeah, it's snowing the hell out of me. The whole street is covered in snow which is far from normal, even for this time of the year. I still remember 2011 though, school stopped because it snowed too much and it came up to my chest when I go outside. @Coldplay Yes, usually most of my country is snow-covered at certain times of the year, namely December and January. In my area, the snow isn’t normally that thick. My little sister is hoping that Father Christmas will bring her a lot this year. Hmm not in most parts, but it snows in the North of the country. @Magenta Unfortunately, no. However, in Sikkim - a state - there are snowy mountains, which are part of the Himalaya mountain range. Thing is, Indian culture holds no significance for snow and winter, so it really doesn't matter. @Marc During Winter, I have never physically seen anything worthy of calling "snow" but there have been some worthy candidates, those being sleet and frost but no snow, unfortunately (unless you go to a mountain obviously). Yeah, it snows here quite a bit. It’s kind of ridiculous and cool at the same time. @Nikk There is snow during the winter, but the amount of it varies. Last few winters were fairly dry, while some years ago, there used to be around 50cm-1m of snow here (I live pretty high in the mountains). Well even if you don’t have snow, I’m sure you can enjoy other things during the Holiday time, a hot cocoa with marshmallows, perhaps? Do you consider yourself as a “fan” of the winter? @TSY_the_crazy For sure, yeah. I love cycling around in the snow with friends. We even play snow golf which is at the same time really difficult but fun. @Coldplay I like the winter, mainly because I enjoy winter climbing and hiking. However, the days are far too short. The sun never seems to be up for long enough. I don't like winter, but when it's cold, you can sit down and have a coffee while watching a movie or playing Tanki. @Magenta A 'fan'? Well, I do like to snugly go into my blanket and stay there, I also sleep longer during winters, and summers here are unbearably hot, although I do miss ice-cream and cold drinks. So no, I'm not a 'fan' but I definitely prefer winter over the unbearable summers. @Marc I actually don't mind winter. Unfortunately, I can't play cricket (though I start pre-season training a few weeks before winter closes out) but I tend to go overboard on Tanki-time. I don't really mind the cold but I prefer Summer. I️ think the winter season is okay, not really strongly for it or against it, although Christmas time is the best. @Nikk I would consider myself as a winter "fan", especially due to the sport activities it offers. Where I come from, people watch all kind of winter sports during winter, ski jumping, skiing, snow-boarding, et cetera. Do you happen to have any winter sports? @TSY_the_crazy We have a lot ice hockey clubs, but unfortunately, it seems to be the only sport without a national team here in Luxembourg, lol. @Coldplay Well, not really. There are a few seasonal ski slopes dotted around the country, but if you want to go for a skiing holiday, northern Scotland will serve you much better. But no, we’re not particularly a winter sport country. And then there’s proper ice axe and crampons climbing, but again, Scotland is much better for that kind of thing. Not really, but I used to run a lot in the mornings in that cold weather. @Marc LOL. Australia has pretty much no winter sports, barely anyone actually skis. Dedicated winter sports relying on snow are virtually non-existent here but most people play basketball or soccer (not football <_<) during winter. @Nikk Slovenia is pretty known for winter sports, as even tho it is a really small county, it plays a big role in winter sports. Our ski jumping team is outstanding (Peter Prevc, Robert Kranjec etc.), we have/had great skiers (Ilka Štuhec, Tina Maze), cross-country skiers (Petra Majdič), and the list goes on. What about you? Do you take part in any of the winter sports? @TSY_the_crazy I'm going to Maroc with friends to do golf camp in a few weeks. Time to sunbathe and I'll ski in January in the Alps in January. @Coldplay I’ve been on several ice climbing expeditions in Scotland and managed to get fairly handy with ice skills and using crampons, but apart from that - not a great deal. Downhill skiing/snowboarding has never really particularly interested me (mainly because of all the tourists who do it) and other classic winter activities, such as skating or ice hockey have always seemed a little hazardous to me. However, I’d really love to go to Norway like my mother did and do some serious cross-country skiing. It sounds like a fantastic way to travel. Nah. @Marc I occasionally go to the mountains every few years and we do some skiing but I do not actively participate in winter sports, no. In terms of “Winter” sports, I️ just play basketball and do boxing as well, I️ don’t Ski. @Nikk Personally winter is my favorite season due to the sport activities it offers. Ice skating (especially when playing ice hockey) and snowboarding are the winter sports I like the most. Skiing is definitely the peak of winter, since most of the other winter sports have a summer version and can be "replaced". Those of you who do ski, where do you go? Do you go with your family or friends? @TSY_the_crazy I often go to Chamonix whenever I can. I have the etoile de bronze right now and am trying to pass etoile d'argent in ski. Unfortunately I don't ski, because there is no ice on the road. @Marc If we ever go skiing, we go with family/family friends. @Nikk I like to go boarding to a nearby place, that happens to be an abandoned ski resort. It is true that you first need to walk up, as there are no ski lifts anymore, but it adds an additional experience to it. As it is a remote place and not many like walking up steep hills with skies/snowboard on them, I usually do it alone or with my family. There is no real special tradition to point out, maybe you can find one yourself :D I would like to end this interview with a simple question. Countries differentiate from each other in different traditions, culture and dishes. Do you have any special tradition, any special dishes? @TSY_the_crazy We have the Grompelkichelchen and sausages as part of the national culture. Our Christmas fairs are full of those. Some local Luxembourgish beer from Diekirch is also good. @Coldplay Well, Christmas tends to be largely a family occasion for us. Towards the end of November, we usually make a festive cake which we then "feed" brandy for a month or so to keep it moist. There is then the mad rush to purchase gifts for all our relatives, as well as sending Christmas cards out. We purchase a christmas tree and then decorate it with lights, baubles and tinsel. My dad tends to make a lot of mince pies (they are small round pies made of pastry which contain sweet mincemeat) over the course of the festivities - he's a great cook! There are usually occasions where a group of locals walk around the area singing christmas carols, raising money to give homeless people somewhere to stay over Christmas. Towards Christmas, we try and attend the traditional church services which give a kind of backstory in to why Christmas is celebrated. On Christmas Eve, friends and relations are invited over and we enjoy the company, mince pies and mulled wine (which is essentially a spiced wine). Late at night, me and my brother help to prepare the feast for the following morning. On Christmas Day itself, we tend to exchange gifts with one another before enjoying the meal with a few relatives, which is largely centred around a roast goose or turkey. After this, we are usually visiting various members of our family for the rest of the christmas holidays. I love to stay under a blanket and watch TV (joking). In winter I really like to drink chicken soup. @Magenta I come from a tropical country, and winter isn't a big part of the culture here. Hence, winter celebrations and traditions are barely a thing. @Marc During winter, we usually eat the same stuff as in summer but for Christmas, my mum usually goes all-out and cooks up a feast. Generally, there's some roast pork, lobsters, steaks, prawns, BBQ Ribs, etc. There isn’t really any special “dishes” during the winter, but the typical Christmas dinner food is always great. @Nikk As for special dishes, potica and žganci are the two ones you really can not find anywhere else in the world. ________________________________________________________________________ I dearly thank you all for collaborating with me in this year's interview. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to come! -

Review [Issue 68] Events Study - Kill the King Explained
Vivianne replied to Vivianne in [Issue 68] Events Study - Kill the King Explained Newspaper Archive
Hello 'Events Study' readers! I have been thinking of what Community Event I should review next for a while. I came up with an idea and then shortly later, a friend of mine confirmed the idea when he requested for it. It's not as popular as the previous two, maybe because people don't know how it works and what exactly the purpose of it is. Therefore it was a perfect opportunity for me to write about it and explain it as much as I can. Behold; your king! Lets start reviewing Kill The King! ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ Introduction In this case, the name speaks for itself, but who exactly is "The King" and what's the point of killing him? Well, the King is an Event Helper that is using Wasp/Isida and of course, the Neon paint. He's being protected by his royal guards other Event Helpers that are wearing heavy armors using heavy equipment (Titan/Mammoth). Your job is to defeat the defenders and kill the King. Sounds easy, doesn't it? Nope. The King is always hiding in his castle behind different obstacles on a field where a moat of alligators lot of mines have been placed. Killing him wouldn't be a piece of cake. Preparation It's not the preparation that takes a lot of time and hard work, it's trying to defend the King and keeping him alive for as long as they can. Event Helpers start with finding a right place for the King, then they place a ton of mines all around him. After the "scene" is prepared, they get to their positions and get ready to start killing anyone who tries to come near the King. I got permission to join the preparation so I would be able to take a few pictures. On the right side we can see the King and on the left side there's one of his defender getting his field of mines ready. Rules This Community Event is also known for allowing to kill Event Helpers because duh that's the purpose of it. Therefore, the rule for not being allowed to kill Event Helpers falls out. You can only equip Dictator among hulls and either Hammer or Vulcan among turrets. You're not allowed to kill nor shoot at any other participant of the Event. Killing/Shooting and trying to get to the King before the organizer says "GO!" is prohibited. The violator will be punished with a kick from the Event. Parameters and Ranks Tankers between Warrant Officer 1 and Legend have a chance to participate in the event. Parameters: Game Mode: DM - Parkour Max players: Maximum (Around 20-24) Time limit: 60m Destroy limit: - Private battle: ON Bonus boxes: OFF Gold boxes: OFF Supplies: ON Upgrades: OFF Alterations: OFF Auto-finish: OFF Weapon change: ON Prizes The prize for killing the King used to be only five thousand crystals, but because a lot of effort was put into trying to kill him, the Administration decided to raise the prize. Now, the prize for killing him is ten thousand crystals. Advisories Sadly, when I joined the event, it was taking place in the Silence map. Therefore I couldn't really see that many ways to pass the mines and get to the King, at least not many different ones. But putting that aside, I still decided to note down some other points that weren't seen in the event. 1) The Camper: It's not new to camp in any map, event or game that's possible. You might as well try to camp in this event too. The King is not allowed to heal (use the Repair Kit), if you're able to get a good position and not get stopped by his defenders, you can kill him easily. 2) Work in Teams: It's always easier to work in a team - and this time, it's not much different. Get a friend/participant, or whoever you want to help you kill the King. It will be easier if you both shoot at him at the same time. 3) The Miner: The easier way to kill the King would probably be to mine him, but what makes it hard is getting to the King. If you get close enough you can either jump on/over him and place mines, he will get destroyed straight away. ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ And that was the end of the third article of the "Events Study" series. Since this event was requested by a reader and I enjoyed writing it a lot, I would like to ask you for suggestions on what event I should do next. Until then, bye! -
Review [Issue 67] Events Study - Save The Gold Explained
Vivianne replied to Vivianne in [Issue 67] Events Study - Save The Gold Explained Newspaper Archive
Community events participants and forum readers, welcome! I enjoyed writing the previous "Events Study" article so much that I have decided to start a series out of it. Now, I present you another one of the most popular community events - Save the Gold. Let's bring on all the little details! ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Introduction The purpose of this event is to catch a Gold Box. The field of it is defended by mountains of mines and heavy-equipped Event Helpers. You're allowed to shoot at them and try to kill them, but it's not as easy as it might seem. You can read more about it on the official page of Save the Gold. Preparation Save the Gold (STG) might be one of the most popular events, but it also includes a lot of hard work. Event Helpers and Event Admins struggle with errors which pop up as the map progresses with too many mines. If that happens, they have to set up everything again but they don't do it as good as the first time since there's not enough time. Event Helpers or so called defenders of the Gold equip Orange paint and any turret they want. In the past, there used to be a rule that allowed them to only use medium hulls, but thankfully, that has changed - now they must equip heavy hulls such as Titan or Mammoth in order to make the challenge even harder for the hunters. Officially, Save the Golds are always held in the map Highways. There's one Gold with two defenders on each main bridge. Their job is to defend the Gold of course not with only shooting and killing but also with placing loads and loads of mines (that often make the map "crash", as I mentioned). I decided to spice everything up a little so here I'm giving you a picture from bird's perspective on the map before participants join. Their job wasn't quite finished yet, but it seems like the event is about to start soon. Rules One of the purposes of this event is to kill the defenders (Event Helpers) to get to the Gold Box; which means there are not many rules as there are in other community events, let's get through them anyway. You're not allowed to go on the mines or try to kill the defenders before the admin's "GO". If you do shoot at/kill Event Helpers or destroy mines, you will firstly be warned and later on kicked from the battle (if you make the same mistake again). Participants of the STG are also not allowed to take the gold before the event has started. The event is ruined in that case. The person who took the gold box before it started will get kicked and will not be rewarded. After you took a Gold Box, you must leave the battle and face a prohibition on joining the following rounds. Therefore players who weren't as lucky get a chance to catch a gold box. Parameters and Ranks Tankers between rank and have a chance to participate in the event. Parameters: Game mode: DM - Parkour Max players: 24 Time limit: 30 min each round (there are two rounds) Destroy limit: none Private battle: ON Bonus boxes: OFF Gold boxes: ON Supplies: ON Upgrades: OFF Alterations: OFF Auto-finish: OFF Weapon change: ON ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Prizes Beside the Gold Box itself that is worth one thousand crystals, there's also a reward for each participant that catches the Gold Box, worth five thousand crystals. Advisories There's obviously a lot of different ways to catch the Gold Box and what is better than learning from experienced participants. I have been to a lot of STGs (Save the Golds) not only as a defender but also as a normal player and I noticed quite a few tricks "that can make you better at being a "gold hunter". 1) Work in Teams: Even though the event is placed in a DM match that can't stop you from participating in teams. It's easier to get through the field of mines if there's more people trying at one spot. If you keep attacking at one ramp you will be able to make a "highway" to the gold box. Much easier than trying on different ramps each time you die. 2) Parkour: Doing parkour can be difficult at the beginning of the event since there's no good place to jump off. That changes when defenders on the middle bridge get defeated. You get a free ramp to jump off. During the event you can see people in pairs jumping to the smaller bridges, they help themselves with mines. I tried to recreate that trick (failed badly). Note: This wasn't taken during an actual Save the Gold event. 3) The Killer As cruel as it sounds, the best way to get to the Gold Box fast and easy is to kill the defender, but there's no need to kill both of them since each of them has only one side of the ramp. Don't get too excited, killing the defender is also the hardest thing during this event not only they are surrounded with a sea of mines, they are also drugging heavily. The easiest way would probably be placing mines around him/her. I tried to recreate something close to "The Killer". Here we have a basic camper trying to defeat the defender. Note: Once again, this picture wasn't taken during an actual STG event. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ We're slowly coming to the end, I can't wait to see new participants using tricks similar to the ones listed above. That would be all, good luck in the up coming Save the Golds! Regards.- 11 replies

Review [Issue 66] Events Study - Minehunt Explained
Vivianne replied to Vivianne in [Issue 66] Events Study - Minehunt Explained Newspaper Archive
Hello forum readers! Here I am once again with another article related to the Community Events. I decided to take a closer look to one of the most popular events and do a complete review of it. Hopefully, it will help you do better in the event itself or perhaps it will add more knowledge to your in-game experience. Let's get started! ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Introduction As it's written on the main page of Minehunt - or maybe even the name of it talks for itself, the purpose of Minehunt is to find hidden mines; and of course manage to destroy them. Since you only have one hour to find and destroy them, you have to be the fastest tanker in the battle. If not, it is certain that you'll lose your chance to get the prize for destroyed mines. Preparation Organizing a Minehunt can be quite difficult, as it takes a lot of time and effort to make everything perfect. The Community has a specialized group of tankers who help set everything up. They equip Dictator with Hammer and of course, the Orange paint since that is the paint that represents helpers. The so called "miner" has Wasp instead of dictator, there so placing of mines is easier for him/her. We know two different kinds of preparation. The easier way is to do a tower with dictators (Event Helpers like to call it "Dictator-tower"). All they do is set mines for each other and afterwards drive on each other, this way they become higher and it's easier for the miner to place mines on higher places. Here is a depiction of Event Helpers doing the job. The other way takes more skills and it's more difficult to accomplish. It contains a few tricks (a.k.a doing parkour) and there's really not much else to say about it. I'll rather just show you another depiction of it. Rules Since this part is already nicely explained in the official Minehunt topic, I will be short. There are only a few rules you need to follow to make experience in the event more enjoyable for yourself and for other participants as well of course. You're not allowed to kill/shoot Event Helpers. Killing them could potentially destroy the whole event. Thus, the violator will immediately be punished with a kick out of the server up to one hour! You're not allowed to shoot/kill other tankers on purpose. Firstly, you will only get a warning; while afterwards, you will be kicked without any other warnings. Placing mines isn't allowed with purpose of killing other participants. Using Double Damage throughout the event is prohibited. Destroying mines before the event starts (before the Spectator says go) won't be rewarded and neither will the ones destroyed with the wrong equipment. Parameters and Ranks Tankers between rank and can participate in the event. Parameters: Game mode: DM - Parkour Max players: Maximum for the map that has been chosen (usually around 20) Time limit: 60 minutes Destroy limit: None Private battle: ON Bones boxes: OFF Gold boxes: OFF Supplies: ON Upgrades: OFF Alterations: OFF Auto-finish: OFF Weapon change: ON ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ It's well known that not all of us are the best mine hunters or parkourists but we can sure work on our skills to become better at both of them. Therefore, I decided to help you out and took a closer look at the tankers during the Minehunt. I found a couple of common mistakes and a few things you need to be careful with. As I already mentioned, Event Helpers help themselves with a "Dictator-tower". It's not such a bad idea for participants to try it out during the event as well, you just have to be more careful with tankers that are a part of it. Try to exclude people with lower FPS/higher PING and those who are a bit clumsy. I managed to record a fail of tankers doing a "Wasp-tower". Preparation is the most important factor of accomplishing the goal to catch a mine. If you decided you want to team up with a bunch of friends or maybe even randoms, you have to make sure that everyone knows what they need to do. Only one person suffices to ruin everything you put effort in to. Here's an example of it. Sometimes you already have a very good team and make an incredible preparation, but unfortunately you run out of luck and you fail without having any influence. Below, you can find an example of that very situation. Even though they failed, it was an amazing attempt. Prizes As I have mentioned, you can't receive a reward for destroying mines before the spectator said "GO". Since there are different levels of difficulty of where mines are placed, rewards are different just as well. The reward circles around five thousand crystals. Organizers can decide rather they are going to increase the prize or not. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Moon Minehunt With a return of Space mode option for battles, Event organizers decided to spice up the traditional Minehunt a bit. They have created a little bit different version of it, these kind of Minehunts take place in the space mode. Therefore, they're called Moon Minehunts. Everything is quite similar to the normal Minehunt. You must follow the same rules. There are only two changes: Firstly the prizes were lower down since mines are easier to catch because of the low gravity. In a nutshell, low gravity, low prizes. Secondly, you're allowed to equip any turret/hull you want but you need to keep using the Protection Module "Zero" and White paint. This is a special edition of Minehunts, Event Helpers place up to fifty mines in such an event! It's quite often to see participants doing "one man parkour" (OMP) in here, since the gravity is so low and you can pretty much do whatever you like or want. Although I mentioned that these kind of Minehunts are easier to catch mines in, you still need a decent amount of skill and knowledge of parkour to achieve your goals. I'm about to show you a few clips of participants catching some mines. In the example number one, the parkourist used Ricochet to shoot himself in the air to gain height and catch the mine he/she aimed for. This place was harder to reach since the mine was placed on a billboard, so these two participants teamed up to catch it. The last one was the easiest of the recorded ones. The participant only had to shoot himself once and low gravity did all the rest. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ That would be all from my side. Hopefully you learned something new while reading through this, as it will certainly help you become better and faster in the next Minehunt event. Regards.- 18 replies

My score on ratings got deleted... is this a forum bug or is it my laptop?
