well, in my opinion, it has nothing to do with your own privacy and it doesn't count as an invasion of privacy because simply if someone you don't like to chat with you can press ignore so why you will hide yourself if you already online and visible for many players?. Many players don't add people for their own reasons but they welcome you to play or communicate with them. This solution goes with an elegant way for communication instead of writing in chat to figure out if someone online just check his profile.

I would like to suggest to add an online/offline feature into profile it would help players to find out if a certain player is active at that time. This feature will help in better communication between players especially who isn't in your friend list.
