XD scold or curse me all you want but in a nutshell i believe railgun and hornet is the best. I mean like you hardly see any other weapon used to fight one on ones do you? I believe the only two other weapons which really pose as a threat to railgun is thunder and smoky. Smoky as everyone knows, has crit shots and makes u shoot off target which can be really annoying if u always face the smoky up close. However base on experience (in my one and only acct), there are really good ways i have learnt to counter smoky. As for thunder, it can shoot really fast so u got to really press the spacebar first before u appear out of hiding. Thunder's reload is also quite fast making it hard for railgun to avoid thunder whenever its a one on one.

Rail for me is like the best weapon that i could ever possess. Sure smoky can be annoying at times, but lets say its smoky and rail in monte carlo. Damn the smoky would have no chance. NO chance at all. However annoying smoky's shot is, there are actually several ways to counter smoky's shots. Also, in sandbox ctf, I hardly see anyone using any other weapon for 1 on 1. So i believe that also shows rail is more popular. BUt in a nutshell. Everyone has their preferences, but for there's only one gun that will always win my heart and that will always be railgun :)

Hornet and Railgun is quite nice cuz u have balanced defense to keep u going as like in a scenario where there's this viking m0 and u need two shots with m1 so you shoot it from far range once then when it finally gets close to you u have probably recharged already and fire the next shot and boom it dies. (scenario in the side of the sandbox map)

Kinda true for the dm part, cuz u can't camp and stuff. But for ctf its great especially if you are in a map like monte carlo, knock off the enemies aim which is pretty good cuz most players in monte carlo are railers and the capture the flag. But it is a bit hard i agree
