2 and 3 have been there long before this last update

Sorry if this was addressed, I did not read the 88 pages... The protection module that resulted from splitting the paint I had before the update, that module is not upgreadable to M1, M2, M3. Is this correct or is this behavior not by design? Meaning, before the update, I had Spark. If I look at the Spark Protection Module in the garage, I only see its current protection, and the option to MU. But if I look at the new Protection Modules that I can buy now, I can also see their values at M1, M2, M3, which is something that does not show up for my Spark. Is this right? Just backward compatibility? We are letting the players just have the protection they had before, but we are making those modules effectively obsolete?
