It happens because the topic is being created in a private section (which normal users do not have access to) and then moved to the proper section. That's why you do not get notified when Marcus moves the topic.

Items shouldn't disappear from your garage (unless they are exclusive to specific events, such as eSports fan paints for example). If an item had disappeared from your garage, you should contact the Tech Support using this form and tell them about your problem.

As mentioned in our lovely Wiki;
"Immediately after the "ghost" phase of spawning is over, spawn protection will be activated. Spawn protection provides 100% protection from all damage, negative status effects, and impact force (only mines) for 2 seconds."
