2018 was a good year in general, but Tanki had its ups and downs. I haven't been able to keep up with them recently, but almost every V-Log has some new development for the game. It's really great to just see each new feature as it comes out, but these introductions bring some unrest with them. Looking back, I just love to think about every tanker still crying out "gold plz admin."
The worst part of this year was a dawning comprehension that struck me like a brick to the face. That epiphany was this: I will never reach a fully ranked account on Tanki Online. I have many accounts on this game, most linked under this one. I try different combinations to see what's effective where, but it doesn't really matter. I am a completely FTP, which means I will never have a modification of equipment prior to the available rank. Due to the new mechanics, technically Tanki is still FTP, but it heavily encourages making purchases. Because so many people are buying crystals, supplies, and kits, I'm left in the dust in each and every battle, so the few crystals I could get are even less.
On top of this, people abandon battles left and right. I'm not saying I don't because I get placed on teams that can't play to save their lives a lot. Despite this, people will still abandon even when their team is winning, causing them to lose. I believe this problem can be traced back to the matchmaking system. I believe it's a fantastic idea on paper, but it has KILLED the game. There is a large portion of the community that must think to themselves, "Gee, I lost. Again. I don't think it has anything to do with my complete lack of skill, it's just my cruddy equipment. Let me buy some crystals to fix that." This means there are people several ranks higher than they should be, simply because they have strong equipment. Once they get so far, their progress stops altogether. They can't play well because they coasted by on their wallets, and now they have a high rank and gear score, but still drag their team down. I think matchmaking should be removed, not abandoned, until a better alternative can be found. I remember the days when tankers could choose the battles they wanted to play. Now, they get stuck in battles as the lowest ranked player, outskilled and outgunned, and unable to make any real headway in the game.
Of course, I understand that money needs to be made somewhere, especially for a project as big as Tanki Online. I just remember when it wasn't practically forced on players. But other than that, my year's been pretty good. I know this isn't exactly eight hundred words, but I didn't have much time to play this year. I'm sure checking account activity is possible, so by all means, check mine. I just couldn't be a huge part of Tanki this year. It was partly because of a break I was taking from the game (from scenarios described in previous paragraphs), and partly because there was a lot of work building up on my plate. Anyway, I got my thoughts and reminiscences out, so I'm pretty much good.
Anyway, it'd be rude of me to not ask, so how was your year?
