    Ideas for Missions!

I've played a few of the "Deal Damage to Enemy Tanks" missions. Not impressed. Way too much effort. As far as I'm concerned, for the heavier missions, they're as bad as Deathmatch. Maybe worse. Just goes to show that whenever Tanki does something slightly right (get rid of Deathmatch Missions) they do something dumb (damage missions). It's all about forcing people to spend time in games anyway - has very little to do with skill. Team juggernaut isn't as bad as I'd feared. Still don't much care for the missions - but for short ones, I don't feel like Tanki is raping me too hard.

That would be true if DM was the only mode you wanted to avoid. I have no use for juggernaut either - so getting 4 different "flavours" of juggernaut is pretty irritating.. I just think that if Tanki is going to throw more crap mission at us, we should have greater freedom to change some of themes. Face it, MOST of the missions now are not geared towards skill at all! They are all aimed at increasing playing time. Picking up supplies, completing a certain number of battles, using a certain number of overdrives - those are all missions that could be done by a trained monkey. No kidding. Teach the monkey to start a battle and push the right "supply" button enough times - the monkey wins! Or have them push the "overdrive" button every 10 seconds - the monkey wins! Or just push the mission start button and any combinations of buttons until the game is over and... the monkey wins again! There's really no way to complete the "complete X battles" mission any faster with better skill. Nor can you do much with the overdrive mission. And supplies are just driving around picking up boxes and pushing your own supply button. What these missions REALLY are is clock-counters. It's just Tanki, desperate to have tanks in battles (after they've lost SO MANY players due to changes like "matchmaking") that they want to have hulls for paying customers to shoot at. These missions have NOTHING to do with skill of any kind. Even the crystal missions are designed to force you to spend time in the game as much as exhibit any skill. I wouldn't be surprised if the next "mission" to come out is something like, "spend 15 minutes in battle" or "fire your weapon X times". Again, nothing but a monkey mission designed to take up time and exhibit no skill of any kind whatsoever. Yeah. Kind of like complaining that someone stabbed you in your left eye. So they pull out the knife and stabb you in the right eye instead. Big improvement. (Tanki style)

DM was just an example. I find Juggernaut nearly as bad - and I have gotten similar cycles with that mission. Point is, for those incapable of understanding generalization of a concept, if you turn down a crystal mission for a battle type, and get a points mission for the same battle type and reject that and get a battle-completion mission for the same battle type - that just sucks. And I've had it happen. Increasing the number of rejects at least doesn't make mission selection suck so damned bead.

Allow players to reject up to three missions without penalty. With tanki adding more (pointless) missions, you can get screwed on the mission selection pretty bad if you don't have more vetos. For example, suppose you hate Deathmatch games. (I do.) With the latest changes you can get "Finish 3 Games in DeathMatch" (Rejected - I hate DeathMatch) "Score 1000 points in DeathMatch" (Rejected - would you quit with the DeathMatch already?) "Score 800 crystals in DeathMatch" (Rejected - God DAMN! What's with the effing DeathMatch?) "Do 100,000 worth of damage in DeathMatch" (Screw this. Wonder what's on television?) If Tanki is trying to make players miserable, dealing a steady stream of crap and making them pay to avoid it is a good way.

That's a little like saying "People who have handles that start with "Gray" generally don't have any clue what they're talking about." You have no idea how I play magnum. And the fact that you can't even stay on topic leaves me wondering - is your attention span so short that you forget what you've read before you hit the end of a sentence? Point is, the "Top 3" are NOT the top 3 It doesn't make a goddamn bit of difference how well you play, how much "teamwork" you exhibit, how many kills you make - you cannot compensate for a team full of losers. or even ONE loser who can bring the whole team down by just enough that your efforts go unrewarded. This is a mission that might as well be "Be one of the top 3 scorers on your team - and have your team's color picked at random." I gave a prime example of that. But maybe your mind wandered off.

This is insane. Why should someone who scores 155 fewer points get a "top 3" mission completion when you don't?

Suppose your arm is broken. Is your solution to: 1) Do something to fix the broken arm, or, 2) Just ignore the broken arm and use the other arm? You don't really have to answer. I already know you'd choose the second approach. There's a fundamental difference between people who prefer to see problems solved, and those who lack the ability to solve anything. If the world had only people like yourself, humans would still be hunting with spears and living in caves because every problem would be something to avoid rather than solve. With that in mind, I think I can safely suggest you not bother to respond to any of my future posts. They are not intended for you. They are intended for people who can read, think, evaluate and offer a cogent response.

We need a "top gun" mission bonus. Be the top scorer - and your rewards are all increased by 20%. How about a "blowout" mission bonus? Like double EVERYTHING - points, crystals, stars... if you're the highest scorer in the battle by 50% or more? And DOUBLE on both bonuses if you're on the LOSING team. I'm getting really tired of earning a high score - but being penalized because MatchMaker put me on a noob team. If somene outscores everyone on both teams, that should be rewarded. We should have a bonus of 500,000 crystals, choice of any tank (turret, hull, paint, 3 protections) 30 days of premium, a 30-day battle pass, 5000 of each supply... if you outscore everyone on your team combined. We can call it the "MatchMaker put me on a noob team - but I kicked butt anyway" bonus.

Yet ANOTHER example of the "Top 3 on the Winning Team" idiocy: Blue team wins. The top TWO scorers in the game are on the RED team. As the second-highest scorer overall, I did NOT get to complete my "Top 3" Mission.

Another example of why the "Top 3 on the winning team" mission SUCKS! I had one of those missions (score "top 3 on the winning team" THREE TIMES!) But how the **** am I supposed to do that when MATCHMAKER keeps putting me on crappy teams? Here's an example of what I'm talking about: It's not as if I didn't do everything I could to help my team win. I scored 60 more points than EVERYONE on my team COMBINED! and more than anyone else in the game! Not only is there no one on my team who can play worth a crap, but we were outnumbered 8 to 6! ********** ********** ********** ********** ********** ********** PLEASE CHANGE THE MISSION TO "TOP 3" INSTEAD OF "TOP 3 ON THE WINNING TEAM"! ********** ********** ********** ********** ********** **********

How about missions that offer UPGRADES!? Something like "Capture 100 points - get an upgrade on any hull/protection/turret/alteration of your choice" It just becomes an option like another type of container - an "upgrade" container. For special events, maybe some gold boxes would contain them. You could even have an "ignore rank" container for people who have maxxed out upgrades to a turret/hull/protection for their rank. So if you're a WO-3 with a maxxed out Hammer, you don't have to wait until Captain to get the M3. Or maybe you decide to save it until you have an M-2 hull you want to upgrade to M-3 ahead of schedule? Frankly with the addition of all the shot colorings and paints to containers, they've become pretty boring. I don't really care much about either, and another 125 speed boost isn't lighting my fire. The overall value of containers has dropped substantially - and so has interest because it's all the same. 125 mines. 125 speed boost. Maybe 3500 crystals. Now my odds of a big crystal payout are diluted by "blue effect for Shaft" or "green effect for Shaft". I don't USE shaft, so what do I care about color effects for shart? (That's if I care at all about color effects?) Might as well be a gift certificate for a dog turd. Even the speed boost would be better. I've got half a dozen paints. I use 1. Maybe 2 (the original green). I don't care about the paints I've gotten in containers: Iceland? Storm? Someone may care - but I don't.

I'd be willing to bet about any amount of money that you did not use that account AND play against Lt. Generals AND get added in the last two minutes of a battle and wind up #1 on your team. One of the many nasty aspects of MatchMaker is that it puts you in battles against people ranked as much as EIGHT levels higher on a team that's down by as much as 4 out of 5 scores (4-0 in CTF for example) AND two minutes to go. That's just another waste of time. MatchMaker starts out by wasting your time trying to get 16 people who want to play. Then it wastes more time loading the game map. Then you wind up on a crummy team in a lost battle on a map you didn't want to play in the first place. And all the attempts to force people to stay in the battles ("finish the battle" and "use overdrive" missions) just create more mults. People do nothing for a couple minutes - then punch overdrive and do nothing more. Or just move or shoot once every minute or two. When Tanki tries to tighten that up, it winds up kicking snipers and others for legitimate game play - all of which ignores the root problem: MatchMaker. But my ORIGINAL complaint was that you can outscore EVERYONE on BOTH teams by 100 points or more and because MatchMaker dumped you on a team of losers, you don't get your "top 3" mission ticket punched. To do that you have to be on the "winning" team. If you're already the top player on either team - score more than any TWO players combined - why are you penalized because MatchMaker dumped you in with a bunch of losers?

    Ideas for Missions!

Well, you've just given us about 7 examples of how wrong someone can be. 1) Of course there are options. The only question is whether Tanki devs will fix a mistake. They probably won't. They have a terrible record on that. But the whole point of this board is to point out those mistakes and offer possible solutions. It's really, really dumb to penalize a player because MatchMaker stuck them on a team full of losers. I'm sure the Tanki devs will recognize that if they ever think about it - which is why I mentioned it here. 2) Blinders? Yes, blinders. You practically define the "look straight ahead and don't consider fixing the problem" mindset. When someone says something like, "that's the only options, nothing else dude", that's blinders. It's like they use with draft horses to prevent them from seeing sideways, because new ideas unexpected sights might startle them and make them panic. 3) Again, your blinders are showing. In FACT the current MatchMaker method adds extra wait time because it delays until both sides fill up. That's a stupid decision. If MatchMaker were to add pairs of players (one to each side) as they select the game, wait time would go WAY down, and there'd be no additional delay. Once a game is 60 seconds old, they could start a new game for new players. Tanki isn't concerned with making people wait - otherwise we would not have MatchMaker. See, every time you join a battle in MatchMaker, the system downloads a whole new map. Under the old system, if you decided to play the same map again, that wait time didn't exist. Worse, they're downloading the same map to 15 other players. Some get it faster than others - so they get a head start - but it's all needless wait time caused purely by the grotesque failure that is MatchMaker. As it is now, you wait a minute, two, three... sometimes "forever" to get into a game because the algorithm is waiting for the 16th person. Is it the end of the world if a game goes off with only 3 people on a side? Someone with blinders on might say "yes", but a thinking person would say "no". As the game progresses, new players could be added to the losing side giving them a numerical advantage (+1 person) with the next person making teams even again. An extra person on a team equates to a bigger difference between teams than if one side had all M2 equipment and the other side had all M3 (a little over 12%). 4) Again, without MatchMaker, you only need to make a small change. If one team is ahead by a flag and the teams are "even", then the new guy has to join the losing team - or not join. It's better than MatchMaker where you are FORCED into a battle where your team is down by 4 flags, FORCED into a battle where there is only 1 minute left, FORCED onto a map you don't want to play and your only options are to waste the time or quit the game. 5) You jump onto losing teams. Good for you. You like to lose. No problem with that. You should LIKE the idea of "being abused". But I prefer to win (which is the object of the game). I'm not saying the outcome should always be a win for me - but I AM saying that I should always have a fair chance. Most of the time you don't get that with MatchMaker, and in every case you wait too long to play at all. In fact, I just finished a game where there were players EIGHT RANK LEVELS higher than me in the game. EVERYONE outranked me. Tell me all about "fair" and "abuse". How'd you like to be a WO-2 and fight majors? But that's what happens with MatchMaker. Tanki has driven enough people away that to make the 16-player limit, they have to spread the rank distribution to EIGHT RANK LEVELS. If they didn't wait for 16 players, they could START games more quickly, cutting down on wait time, DYNAMICALLY balance the game by always adding the new player on even teams to the losing team NARROW the rank range - making sure all players have a competitive chance STOP driving people away from the game who are sick of the stupid changes 6) If there's a problem with someone choosing to play a particular map, maybe the REAL problem is they're playing a particular game - namely Tanki. In other words, if you play Tanki a lot, maybe you should not be allowed to do that because it "creates biases". More playing time could "make a difference between victory and defeat". (So could 8 rank levels!) Here's an idea: For you only... if you play more than 60 games in a month, you don't get to play at all the next month. Sound good? Well, it makes as much sense as your "map" point. If someone plays Tanki a lot, they get better. If someone plays a given map a lot, they get better. You should have no problem with that because you like to lose and those better players can help you do that. 7) DM and Juggernaut are NO STRATEGY. Now I realize you're probably only 12 years old and maybe your English isn't good enough to know the difference between "strategy" and "tactics", but it's a big difference. The fact that you don't know the difference means you're not competent to have an opinion on the matter - you cannot even understand the terms. But you can fix your ignorance. Go look up the words and think about it. Then come back here and tell me I'm right.

    Ideas for Missions!

You seem to think the only options are to get dumped into a winning battle or a losing battle. Take the blinders off. How about being put into a battle AT THE BEGINNING? How about not making people wait until there are 16 players to start the game? How about not TIMING OUT just waiting for the game to start? Before MatchMaker, you had a CHOICE. Now you're just screwed by MatchMaker - and because it dumps people into losing battles, people just leave. That means it's just a waste of time for the person trying to join a battle AND it ensures that the losing team won't get any replacements because people just cycle through. Watch it next time. When you get to the half way point in a battle that's not close, watch how many people on the losing side have ZERO points. That's because they were just dumped into the losing team. Now watch how fast those bottom positions turn over. I've seen the bottom three change more than a dozen times in some games in the last two minutes. MatchMaker also took away choice of map. So a lot of people will just take a look at the map and quit. And MatchMaker takes MUCH, MIUCH, MUCH longer to get into a battle. It used to be you could get into a battle in 10 seconds or less. Now it takes about 1-2 minutes or more. At the same time, battles are shorter, so you're waiting longer to play less time. With 15 minutes battles and 10 second wait times, you only wasted 1.1% of your time (at most!) to get into a battle. With MatchMaker, the average wait is about 90 seconds for a 6 minute game, so you're wasting 25% of your time just WAITING! And that's if you even get into a battle. With MatchMaker, you quite often NEVER get into a battle... especially if it's a Rugby or Assault game. You wait. You get into the game (but can't see anything, can't play) and then the game times out and your'e removed for "non-activity". You wait 3,4,5 minutes for NOTHING. Then to get into one of those games, you have to log out and log back in, because if you just try to reenter a game, it will time out again. MatchMaker does NOTHING good. It may have had good intentions, but it's like communism or socialism. In the end, it's just a mess. It doesn't even cut down on mults. All the efforts Tanki has made to try to force people to stay in games (Complete X missions. Use X overdrives.) just have people sitting in battles doing nothing so they can wait until the end of the game or until the overdrive icon comes on. As for deathmatch and juggernaut - I just don't like them. There's no strategy. (There's less strategy in ALL the games with MatchMaker, but these two have always been bad.) The key to deathmatch and juggernaut is just to shoot a lot. That's it. That's the whole plan. Push the space bar as fast as you can. And run away. There's no cooperation. There's no teamwork. There's no planning. Just shoot. For people who like DM, they should have a new game called "NOISE". You push the space bar and it sounds like 10 tanks blew up and there are explosions all over the screen. Every time. Even monkeys won't sit there and push the space bar all day long - but DM players probably would.

I think my analogy is precisely correct. Bottom line: It's broken and your "solution" is to avoid fixing it. You could of course do the same thing by just clicking to change the mission as many times as necessary to get the result you want. It might cost you a thousand crystals - but it's as good as your proposed solution. (I hate juggernaut and DM). Or, another "solution" that matches your thinking: Any time your team is behind enough that it probably won't win - quit and join another game. Repeat until you wind up on a winning team. This actually happens a lot and is an example of how a dumb mission (top 3 on the WINNING team) gets people to abandon games - and make Tanki worse for everyone. LOTS of people quit games after MatchMaker dumps them into a LOSING game with not enough time to come back (another reason MatchMaker should be removed). Another solution in your style: Just play so well that you score so many points that your team wins no matter what. I'm sure that's what you really do, right? For me, the better solution is the FIX THE PROBLEM.

The mission status flags are broken. They used to tell you if something had changed to a daily/weekly mission since the last time you looked at the missions. Now they tell you - well, I don't really know. They don't clear after you look at the mission status display. They just stay red. So you do a mission, the indicator is red, you've looked at the missions - that used to mean you completed a mission. NOW what it means is... the status flag is broken.

    Ideas for Missions!

The whole idea of "team work" was killed by Match Maker. Since battles are only ~6 minutes long, the sides get shuffled every game, there are no rematches (which was one of the BEST parts of Tanki - the ability for two close teams to play 4, 5, 6 games in a row with very few changes to the teams), you usually don't even notice who is on your team, let alone get any idea of how they play. You don't get to help the guy out NEXT game who helped you in THIS game because you all get shuffled, may not even be in the same game, let alone on the same side. So now the whole idea is, shoot, grab, score - FOR YOURSELF - and ***** everyone else. And that's just one reason why MatchMaker sucks.

Change the "Top 3 on the Winning Team" to just "Top 3" For example, here the top 3 are MMSUX, bones15 and TAHK03. NOT TAHK03, rockandre and guru_india. There is no reason to punish a player because MatchMaker stuck him on the same team as a bunch of losers or reward a player who is beaten out by TWO players on the other team.

    Let's Discuss Missions!

Isn't it about time we got away from "top 3 on the winning team" for mission and just made it "top 3"? Why should someone be punished for being stuck on the same team as a bunch of losers?
  22. MMSUX

    Let's Discuss Missions!

Several of the mission types are total crap. The "top 3" missions are really TEAM missions. You can be the very best player in the game, have better equipment by far. Score twice what anyone else in the game does... and STILL not complete the "top 3" mission because MatchMaker paired you up with a passel of incompetent boobs. The "complete N missions" and the "use overdrive N times" are just to keep people from quitting before the game is over BECAUSE MM put me in Legend battles EVERY TIME. MatchMaker is complete and utter crap and should be removed from Tanki. It puts people in battles they don't want to play, many times when they're already lost, on maps they don't want to play. And as you've pointed out, MatchMaker is really, REALLY crappy about tossing you in with players 4, 5 or even 6 (sometimes EIGHT) ranks higher than you. And you're trying to complete a "top 3" mission. Personally, I think MM is the worst change Tanki has ever made. And it's not even close. It's worse than the next 10 bad changes Tanki has ever made - combined. MM should be considered Tanki's biggest bug.
  23. Why do assault and rugby so often fail to load properly? I wait for MatchMaker. Then I wait for the loading screens to clear. And wait. And wait... And wait. And then finally everything times out. This happens about 25%-50% of the time. (I've had to log in three times to play four games of assault tonight alone.) About a third of the time, everything crashes and I have to reenter the game. If things just time out, and I try rugby or assault again, I get the same problem again. I have to LEAVE THE GAME and log back in to have a chance of things working. This has been going on for months. Will Tanki ever fix it? EDIT: Now it's up to 5 failures and 5 logins. Right at about 50% failure AND AGAIN! Still 50% failure rate.
