Given that the wiki splits them into two categories as you have highlighted, I thought that they probably have separate probabilities as you theorized in 1. If they don't, it's hard to tell if "paint" is selected from a pool and then a paint is chosen, or if all available paints are added to a single pool. Either way though, 2 seems quite plausible, and the youtube videos seem to support the theory that the Frenzy paints are somehow replaced by other rare-tier items.

Are there any cool long-running AWS series I should check out? I'm in the process of writing a series, and I could probably take a few lessons from one that's been going on a while.

Oh my, how could I forget about the free premium days? I'll definitely add that. Also thanks for pointing out that buying the cheapest garage paints won't help.

Isn't it better to have 50 paints than 86 paints as possible drops? It won't completely remove your chances of getting paints, but it will significantly lower them. @At_Shin

The Ongoing Tale of NoDestroyWithTurret - Part 5

Part 4: All about Mammoth "TEN THOUSAND YEARS WILL GIVE SOU SUCH A CRICK IN THE NECK!" And 4 weeks will give you a crick in your turret's rotation carriage. Welcome back, one and all (you, especially) to my humble abode! I just took a few weeks off of playing to deal with some other stuff in my life (I know, I know, crazy right?), and oh boy, have I got a few things to share with you now that I'm back. When I left you, I had given you an introduction to my non-turret-killing account, talked about my equipment selection, shared how I used Wasp's overdrive and Mammoth. I initially planned on doing a grab bag article today, but plans changed! I write what comes to mind, and today, containers were on my mind. Don't worry, I'll give you a "week-in-the-life" article soon that'll contain all of those fun tidbits. Let's get started. They're fun. They're unpredictable. They're very profitable for Tanki Online you, the opener. There are currently 7* types of containers that appear somewhat regularly in the game, 3* of which are easily obtainable. Let's take a deep dive into how to get the most out of them. *Supply boxes are only available on mobile. A Very Brief History First dropping in place of regular Gold Boxes during the 2017 Black Friday sales, Containers immediately became some of the most sought-after items in the game. They dropped again around New Years 2018, and since then, they've been available in the shop, part of weekly mission rewards, and occasionally dropping in battle. Over the years, they've gotten packed with more paints, skins, paints, augments, paints and did I mention that they contain lots of paints? They're quite valuable for any tanker, especially one who likes to look good. Alright, you can wake up now. It's time to talk about stuff that matters today. Regarding Probabilities Don't worry about it! Seriously. The Devs haven't told us, and knowing the probabilities won't change what you get, so there's not much point beyond pure curiosity. If you do want to know, here are some resources, but beware: they are not officially endorsed, and are plagued by: Small sample size With some items being so rare, its very difficult to accurately approximate probabilities, even if hundreds or even thousands of containers are opened Inconsistent or biased reporting Why would a YouTuber publish a container video if nothing cool dropped? What's most likely to make tankers go "ooh look at this" or "can you believe how useless these are"? Changing contents of containers What are good results now become less useful as more augments, paints, etc. are added to containers Poor data-management Specifically relating to the community-led container project, ultra containers (which may have significantly different overall probabilities, and certainly have some items not shared with regular containers) were allowed to mix with the results of regular containers. This has probably rendered the results less valid. Sorry to call out the people running this project, because it's pretty cool otherwise, but that's what the logic says. Now that the disclaimer is out of the way, here are some links if you're still curious: Containers: Community-led container project (contribute here) (info) Shibe123's insights/guess on container rarity patterns Ultra Containers: Taspens opens Ultra Containers Coinboxes: Jay Tanki opens Coinboxes Pit Stop Boxes: AV Gamers opens Pit Stop Boxes Tips and Tricks Now we're to the really good stuff. If my luck is as good here as it has been with containers recently, then you'll really love this part of the article. Container Tip #1TM: Thin out the "Rare" selection pool by buying the Football Frenzy paints. What do I mean by this? Lets take a look at what can appear in a container that opens up in the third (blue) rarity tier: 25,000 crystals 150 Batteries 250 of all Supplies 10 days of Premium 10 Gold Boxes One of the many "Rare" paints (the ones in the garage) One of the current football paints from the Football Frenzy event (36 total) One Augments "Cold or Heat Resistance" for a Hull (14 total) One of the 14 Rare Augments for a Turret You may have noticed that I broke the contents up into two categories. Those categories are of infinite supply and finite supply. A container can always drop something in the first category. What's more, those drops are pretty sweet, and you want to have them happen as often as you can. "But NoDestroyWithTurret," you ask, "how is that supposed to help us? We can't control what a container might drop!" "WRONG!" I say, and promptly direct your attention to the finite supply category. Everything in that category is either in your possession or not. If it's in your possession already, it cannot be dropped from a container. Therefore, by buying up the rewards in this category, you can maximize your chances of getting something else. Note: The precise mechanics of containers are not disclosed by the developers, so there is not way of knowing how used-up finite supply rewards are replaced. Some possibilities include redoing the random draw, replacing with an infinite supply drop, replacing with a lower (or higher, but probably lower) tier drop, or simply removing them from the pool before anything is picked at all. In any case, though, you can reduce the containers wasted on dropping items you don't want by doing the following: Buy all of the football frenzy paints! There are 36 of them, and they are weird, rarely worn, and usually disappointing when they drop from a container. Each one costs 10 tankoins in the garage, and buying them on a 25% or 30% sale (which are not all that infrequent) will reduce the price to 7. To buy the lot of them on a sale, you'll be out 252 tankoins, or 14 weeks of weekly-container (read: free) tankoins. It's totally worth it; you'll never have to be disappointed by one of these paints again. I completed this step just a couple of weeks ago. Earn challenges rewards. Challenges occasionally will reward garage paints in the free tier, and the past couple have also rewarded Rare augments for turrets. After a while, this will shrink your pool of possible augments to get, and make you more likely to get a different reward such as crystals. Also, if you're a really heavy challenge player and complete all 50 tiers, the 100 tankoins are really helpful for buying up those football paints. I don't advise purchasing garage paints (except perhaps the very cheapest, under 5000 crystals or so) or spending your crystals on augments for the sole purpose of purifying your container drops - it's just not efficient enough, and you'll be spending more crystals than you gain. This sort of thing is also possible for the Epic, Legendary, and even Exotic tiers. You have a better chance of getting 100,000, 300,000, or 1,000,000 crystals if you already own epic/legendary (animated) paints, epic augments, and skins. That's a lot more expensive though, and requires either very hard work or buying. Whatever floats your boat, though. Container Tip #2TM: Wait to open your Weekly Containers until after you rank up. Weekly containers are one of the best sources of crystals, supplies, and batteries out there. The number of crystals and supplies that they reward depends on your rank, but here's the thing: "your rank" is not the rank at which you earn them. It's the rank at which you open them. Let's say you're me about a month ago: a Warrant Officer 3 who's going to have about 12 weekly containers by the time he gets to Warrant officer 4. If I opened these containers right away, I would have gotten the following for each container. (Rank, RK, DD, DA, SB, Mine, Battery, Crystals, Tankoins) But because I waited until Warrant Officer 4 to open them, I got this for each one instead: The difference doesn't look like much, but when multiplied by the 12 weeklies I earned during that rank, it resulted in me earning... 12 more repair kits 24 more DD, DA, SB, and Mines 12 more batteries 1320 more crystals ...than someone who worked just as hard as I did but opened them all up right away. And what did it cost me? Almost nothing. All of these bonus rewards add up, so once you make it through a rank or two of doing this (you might run out for a couple of days, but that's okay), you won't even feel the need to open them. If you can manage to save them until 2 or even more ranks later, you'll earn even more bonus rewards. Container Tip #3TM: Manage your expectations. This applies to pit stop boxes in particular because there are no super-great rewards, just some mundane and mildly useful refills of your consumables. In a broader sense, though, you'll enjoy opening all containers more if you can learn to appreciate the usefulness of all rewards. For example: "aw man, I got a paint" can be "ooh, pretty" or "my reward selection pool for future containers won't have this in it any more" "125 Double armors? Useless" can be "that'll help me power my Defender (or Trooper) Drone later" Double damage? Fuel for Booster or Blaster. Mines? Fuel for Saboteur or Miner. Repair kits (like you would ever have an excess of these, lol)? Lifeguard. Speed boost? Sprinter In fact, disappointment over any supplies at all can be excitement about being able to use Hyperion or Crisis. "3500 crystals isn't much" can be "Hey, at least it's not supplies or some dumb paint" Container Tip #4TM: Complete your challenges. I hinted at this earlier, but it's important, so take note. If you regularly finish challenges (I don't but if you do, I would recommend premium and battle pass for this; they're a good value for the price), you can get a skin every 2 weeks. Once you get all of them (it'll take a while; there are 32 currently available), your skin container will instead reward 20,000 crystals. Not necessarily game-changing, but a respectable sum nonetheless. What's more, getting all of those skins stops them from crowding out your regular exotic tier, possibly making you more likely to get the coveted 1,000,000 crystals. Container Tip #5: Open containers (and ultra containers) when you will benefit the most from a few days of premium. Speaking of completing your challenges, it's a lot easier if you're earning double stars with a Premium account. You'll also get bonus XP and crystals from every battle you play, and these bonuses (which improve your crystal to XP ratio, I might add) stack multiplicatively with event bonuses. Since regular and ultra containers can both drop premium (3 days as an Unusual* reward and 10 days as a Rare* reward), you'll maximize the benefit of that premium if you open them at the opportune moment. "When is that moment," you ask? It was Tanki's birthday. You missed it. A time that good for premium won't happen again until the New Year's celebrations. But, if you don't want to wait that long, here are some other good times: Any time you'll be able to play a lot in the following few days During a challenge, to earn double stars At the start of any event that increases your crystal and experience rewards *The drop rates for days of premium are significantly lower than most other rewards in their respective tiers. Container Tip #6TM: If you're on mobile, keep track of the time and watch those ads. Mobile players can earn up to 8 supply boxes daily by opening 1 every 6 hours for free and a second every six hours for watching an ad. You can get a couple of supply units or a few hundred crystals from these, so definitely open them as frequently as possible. Small rewards stack up. Container Tip #7TM: Don't expect to profit from coinboxes. They're fun to open if you're just trying your luck and don't mind spending your tankoins on the small supply and crystal rewards that they tend to drop. I don't recommend getting these regularly or in bulk, though. Think about it: if Tanki made the average tankoin reward higher than the price of the coinbox, wouldn't we all get as many tankoins as we wanted? The answer is yes, so obviously Tanki cannot do this. Coinboxes are not a way to earn tankoins. Container Tip #8TM: Prioritize special missions that reward you with ultra containers. I can't vouch for the general benefits of opening these - it's unknown if the tier rarities are the same, and you might just get coin boxes, but one thing is for sure: if you want the Crisis drone, Rubberized Rounds, or Electromagnetic Salvo, these containers are the only way. You might as well shoot your shot. I'm not going to, because I don't use Gauss or Vulcan, nor do I earn enough supplies at this rank to justify using the crisis drone often. But you should. If you're into that kind of thing. Container Tip #9TM: Open all of your greyed-out "old" containers. These things are doing you no good just sitting in your garage. Tanki has confirmed that the rewards they drop will remain as they were when they were earned, so you might as well open them up. Unless, of course, you're saving them for a cool future opening video, or if they're old weekly containers that will give you better rewards at a higher rank. Then you should go ahead and save 'em. That's all! I think it's a pretty comprehensive guide, and I hope it helps. Questions, comments, and suggestions are welcome. I'll see you at some point in the future with the next installment, which will either be about several interesting experiences with this unique account, the Blaster drone, or whatever I feel like writing about at the time instead. Until then, this is NoDestroyWithTurret, signing off.

@Viking4s Update: While I wrote Mammoth article, I included information about how I play in specific modes since, on the whole, there was not as much general technique to talk about with the AT-Field as there was with the the N2 bomb. Hopefully, that gave it a more well-rounded feel. I also left larger spaces between sections. ?
  15. @Marcus Did the devs dive a specific reason why experience was decided to be x3? Doubling crystals and experience would have been a fantastic move, but adding extra experience makes things more difficult for low and middle ranked tankers, forcing them to either play with poorly upgraded equipment or to specialize more and sooner. It's not really an issue for me because I specialize in one turret by my account's very nature. It seems unfair to a lot of others, though. Taking away people's ability to purchase and upgrade multiple pieces of equipment, even as you are adding expensive augments and drones, will make it less fun to play because so many players will be unable to afford the variety of equipment that keeps this game so interesting. Is the purpose of this extra experience to increase equipment specialization (and thus perhaps the creation of new alt accounts)? Is it to make drones and augments prohibitively expensive until the high ranks? If so, why not just give augments unlock ranks? Is it to simply streamline the journey to the Mk7 ranks so that specialization no longer matters? Be careful of losing players who find it so hard they quit and don't make it to those ranks. It's not that I think those are necessarily all bad things, but I feel like the community deserves a little more explanation than what was given.

The Ongoing Tale of NoDestroyWithTurret - Part 4

Part 3: Making Wasp's Bomb Sting Part 5: Taking a Deep Dive into Containers It is I, NoDestroyWithTurret. I come back to you now at the turn of the tide. Me, circa January 17th, 2020 (colorized) In late 2019, I found myself getting rather burnt out. I was progressing slowly, and though I had maxed out the micro-upgrades on my equipment, it was to be a long time before I reached the rank at which I could obtain higher modifications. I finished the new years' celebrations and took a break. When I returned three weeks later, I was thoroughly confused. Everyone was making a big hubbub over "Mk7" equipment, and I had to investigate. First, I asked a couple of buddies of mine, but I couldn't get a straight answer through all of the incoherent babbling about crystals and rankups. Then, I thought "well, it'll all be explained in the wiki page for updates." But alas: My only remaining course of action was to actually open up my garage and check, which of course is a far more drastic plan than any I had originally envisioned. Nonetheless, it proved successful. What did I discover? My maxed-out M0 equipment had become stock Mk3, and by maxed out M1 Mammoth had become ... had become ... *drumroll please* ... wait for it ... I know the suspense is killing you but just wait a second longer and the reveal will be so much more dramatic ... Mk5! That's right. I had in my possession a Mk5 hull at a rank that everyone else had only unlocked Mk2. It was time to press this advantage that my Micro-upgrading had bought me. WHAT I'M USING As it currently stands, my Mammoth is at Mk5-4. That gives it a whopping 3212 HP, a not-so-whopping 5.61m/s top speed, and a whole lot of weight and power. It's pretty good for catching gold boxes, and fantastic for anything that requires surviving a constant rain of enemy fire. Currently, my (rather optimistic) plan is to max out Mammoth by the end of Warrant Officer 5. Though it'll cost me 82740 crystals that I currently don't have,* the raw power of such a well-upgraded hull will be astounding. Which is good, considering my turret isn't doing much to protect it from my opponents. *In a manner of speaking. They're in my garage, but reserved for other pieces of equipment. I'll tell you all about it in the birthday/lockdown summary installment. And speaking of upgrades, here's a little knowledge knugget that somehow escapes a lot of tankers: Upgrades Tip #2TM: The first micro-upgrade on any piece of equipment, at any modification, is incredibly cheap. Always MU at least one step! Lastly, I rely on Mammoth's Overdrive, which is called the AT-Field, for most of my kills. When activated, it: Resets your HP to maximum Increases your Speed by 50% (stacks with speed boost) for 7 seconds Adds 3996 damage per second to your hull (with a small range outside the hull, not actually touching an enemy) for 7 seconds Cannot be deactivated unless the mammoth is killed. Cannot be protected against, even with supplies, drones, or Titan's dome Pretty awesome, huh? There are some drawbacks, though: It can be stalled for 3 seconds by Hunter's overdrive, and you'll lose your supplies Unlike wasp's bomb, it cannot be charged (except with Nuclear Energy) while it is activated. You'll finish with 0% charge, no matter how many kills you got. 7 seconds is a pretty short time - it's easy to waste this OD if you get stuck, blocked, flipped, frozen, or killed. WHEN I'M USING IT Wasp is my favorite hull. It's wicked fast and explosive. Recently, I've really started to enjoy Dictator. It's intimidating, and it's overdrive is the most altruistic in the game. Mammoth? On the face of things, it seems like it doesn't fit into my "chase-teammates-to-heal" and "spring around completing game objectives" style of play. Nonetheless, it has its uses. They are: Being fat Allowing naps while driving during battle Getting in the way Watching golds drop from afar Chasing your 96-year-old grandmother down Fantastic, eh? Seriously, though, here's what I use it for: Jug Hunting Why? Though it's much easier to catch the Juggernaut with wasp, its hard to drop the bomb soon enough and discreetly enough that the juggernaut doesn't get away. With Mammoth, I can corner the juggernaut and get a nearly-guaranteed kill with the 3996 DPS of the AT-Field. Thanks to my Mk5ness, I can take a full salvo of Jug rockets and more, absorbing railgun shot after railgun shot as I inevitably approach the cowering enemy Jug. Also thanks to my Mk5ness, if I become our team's juggernaut, the enemies' Mk2 turrets break upon my armor as water upon rock. Deathmatch Yes, believe it or not, I do play in DM and Solo Juggernaut mode when they come up in an event. I'm not passing up those golds! Mammoth's high HP allows me to survive happily in a corner, venturing out every 30 seconds to plant a mine and occasionally journeying to the nuclear box. The AT-Field is perfect as a last-ditch defense and for mowing through enemies crowding around a gold. I used to also use it for Siege and defending in Assault, but Dictator now seems to be the superior hull in those modes. HOW I'M USING IT I'm a simple man. I join a battle with mammoth, I press the forward key. By the end of the battle, sometimes I make it out of my base. To be more specific, though, let's look at my typical Juggernaut battle with Mammoth. As soon as I join, I check if anyone around me needs healing. If they do, I hope that they see me because I'll never catch them otherwise. If they don't, I tell them to wait for me in chat. When they ignore me, I try someone else. I then drive straight to the nuclear drop zone. The first box usually appears a little before the six-minute mark. I plant a mine on the zone in case my box is contested by the enemy, or in case I live long enough for the next box to drop while I'm busy doing something else. That reminds me! Mine Tip #2TM: Plant mines on drop zones. They're almost guaranteed to get traffic, and if a box falls on top of it, it's invisible. Speed boost and double damage are excellent, and repair kit zones attract already-weakened enemies. Double armor zones are less than ideal. Nuclear zones are unpredictable, and Gold Drop zones are almost a guaranteed kill. Ok, now that we've gotten that over with, I generally take the box. If I don't, by the time I respawn and heal a few teammates, by OD is about 70%, which is high enough to start hunting. I begin the hunt for the enemy Juggernaut. I use the word "hunt" loosely here. It's a very slow-motion approach. I don't use any supplies until I can see the whites of its eyes tips of its barrels. Nothin sucks more than losing a juggernaut kill because my supplies were in cooldown, so I am patient and take the back route so that I don't need them until the big confrontation. I trap the Juggernaut and charge Ideally, the Jug doesn't know its trapped until it's far too late. "Trapped" can mean really stuck, occupied with other enemies, or simply up against a wall. Anything that will prevent it from running away. At this point, even if I've been seen, I start activating supplies. Usually, SB followed by DA followed by RK if its needed. Juggernaut kill! If I've gotten this far, it's pretty much over for the enemy Jug. It can't shoot me down; I have too much HP. It can't run; I made sure of that. And it definitely can't survive longer than a few of seconds once I start sizzling. The only thing I have to worry about is overdrives - if an enemy activates an OD on me while I'm trying to get the Jug, I usually die or the jug escapes. I also have to be cautious of getting flipped or blown backwards. To avoid this, I sometimes feign a charge to get the Jug to activate the overdrive, and if I'm still on my tracks, then I activate mine and plow away. Mammoth Tip #1TM: Wait until the last possible moment to activate your Overdrive. You'll get the most out of the HP reset that way, and you'll waste your activation less often. There was one occasion that, thanks to the AT-Field's small range of effect outside of the hull (7.5 meters), I activated my overdrive, got flipped by the Juggernaut, and killed them anyway in midair. I should really take some videos of me playing sometime so I can catch epic stuff like that. Rinse and repeat as often as possible. With Mammoth, I usually get 1-2 Jug kills each battle, and I've gotten 3 on one occasion. Still trying for that elusive quadruple! Heal my teammate's Juggernaut when they come close by. "It ain't much, but it's honest work" - there are no extra points awarded for healing the Jug as compared to healing anyone else, and it takes much longer. It helps the team, though. Also, it keeps me close to the Jug, so if it does get destroyed, I'm usually next in line to take on that role. ________________________________________________________________ That's all i've got for you today! Tune in next time for a Grab Bag article - tasty tidbits on upgrades, glitches, augments, containers, and more! As always, I'd love to hear your thoughts and answer your questions. What does the matchmaking system do to prevent 4v8 matches?

I just played like this: For a solid 3 minutes. Needless to say, our team was rather unsuccessful, even though the four of us were pretty cooperative and reasonably skilled. I can understand someone joining, seeing a lopsided match, and leaving, but that's not what happened. During that 3 minutes, not a single person was added to our team. The only reason I didn't leave is because I didn't want to stick my team in a 3v8. So my question is (and I am genuinely curious; I don't want to just complain): What does the MM system do to minimize this sort of thing happening, and how can we as players help it do a better job? I would have thought the answer would be "it adds more people to balance the teams," but considering prolonged 5v8 or 6v8 matches are not all that uncommon, this clearly isn't always the case.

What does "hay ka" mean and why do so many low-ranked tankers say it?

I see this all the time, and it confuses me. There never seems to be any event to prompt people saying this, nor is there any response to it. It's just "hay ka" and then everyone acts like nothing happened. Why do people say this?
  20. Though I can't say I didn't see this coming, I wasn't expecting it to be so drastic. More importantly, I was really hoping the ratio of experience to crystals would be preserved! As we quickly unlock new equipment, it will now be harder to "keep up" with the expectations for equipment level of battles at our ranks. Some "quick maths" tell me that: Double crystals x 1/3 of the time spent in each rank = 2/3 of the previous amount of crystals earned each rank. That looks like it will make it harder to get the equipment necessary to be successful at each successive rank. That being said, I will reserve my judgement of the goodness/badness of the update until I actually see it in action. It's possible that the way this faster pace interacts with events and sales will offset the reduction in crystals earned per rank.

Thank you! I'm glad you like it. Regarding the space - I'll definitely take that into consideration in future guides. I'm planning on writing my next one today. WIth the juggernaut thing, I agree that to make a truly comprehensive wasp OD guide, I should have more details and tips. This goes for other modes, too. However, I plan on writing future installments about how I play in specific modes, so to avoid repeating information, I'm saving some of those juicy pieces of advice for those later articles. Is this a good idea, or do you think it's okay to have some repetition for the sake of completeness everywhere?
