Interview [Issue 68] Ask the Community 13 - Mobile Tanki
Vikingsrallentando replied to Vikingsrallentando in [Issue 68] Ask the Community 13 - Mobile Tanki Newspaper Archive
Do you agree with the developers' plans of making a mobile version of the game? Would you play Tanki on your mobile phone regularly? @DieselPlatinum: I think this mobile version may actually increase Tanki Online's playerbase since the majority of the global population has at least one mobile device and most of the majority primarily uses a smartphone, iPhone, Android, etc. I do realize that browser users will have an advantage over the mobile users since the mobile users will have a touch screen to work with. It can be hard to see on a smaller screen, their fingers will block part of their view. Although there will be some really good mobile players, I think the majority of the time, mobile users will struggle against browser users. Yes, I do think it is very beneficial for the game to develop on other platforms, HTML5 is said to have a vast amount of more data than flash. This in turn will give the developers more creativity to fix all the bugs and reduce the lags and I guess even troll the cheaters. I would say that Tanki would easily place at the top of the mobile game competition. In my opinion, the Matchmaking System is a great way to balance all the battles in the game. So overall, I do agree with the developers plans to put the mobile version in the game. I don't think I will play Tanki on my mobile device regularly because of these sausage sized fingers of mine. But I will give it a try a few times and maybe even once in a while. @KILL_BILL_CHAUHAN: In my opinion, it's a good update and it will help players, like while they are away from their PC, or when it is sale on micro update or sale and any other things, or they want to claim there Daily Missions to continue weekly chain or simply spend time in the lobby chatting with friends. As for the playing purpose, it is an issue which has to be tested first. I think players on browsers will have advantages over players on mobile as TO is a very dynamic game and one has to control many things like the turret, hull, camera angle, supplies etc. To make it fair, Tanki must separate mobile player from browser players. With the upcoming Matchmaking update, I hope this problem can be solved and the system will send players automatically to the battle and save players time on searching battle and selecting servers. And for the question "Do you agree with Developers' plans of making a mobile version of the game? Would you play Tanki on your mobile phone regularly?", my answer is 'yes'. I agree with the developers' plans. For playing Tanki as for today, is 'no', because I think Tanki on mobile is not possible for me as I like to play long battle and on mobile it is not possible. But for other purposes - other then playing, I will definitely use the mobile version. @D.a.n.t.e: Yes, it is a good idea. It could bring new players to the game and allow existing ones to play the game they like on the go, or when they don't have a PC or home Internet service. I have no idea of all the technical stuff of what it will take for the development team to create and maintain a mobile version of the game, but if developers create a version that is easy to play, is enjoyable, it allows players to answer phone calls or manage messages without worrying about lost scores or anything, takes into consideration cellular or Wi-Fi signal issues, and keep mobile players separate from PC players, it will be a good addition to Tanki. Why separated players based on what device you are using? To prevent an imbalance between mobile players and PC players, and because then they can develop a modified system for mobile players in terms of controls, pauses, allowing phone calls, messaging, limited cellular or Wi-Fi signals and rewards. @Adriel.RB: In my opinion, having the game available for mobile users will open doors to new players to join the game and it could also increase the game's popularity. I actually agree with making the game for mobile users because it also expands the way you can play the game and it makes the game to be playable on other platforms, and this also makes the game playable at any place whenever you want to be. The Matchmaking System will also help to play quick battles, and it will be a good option for mobile users to play in their free time. I'm also curious how the mobile users will learn to play the game, since the buttons will be a bit difficult at first, but the players will gain experience after a lot of trials in the mobile version. I'm so excited to wait for this feature to come! @austen_pierce: Earlier this year, I was happy to hear Tanki would be available on Steam, even though I wouldn't be affected in any way. After all, more players are good for the game. It felt like real progress, and that Tanki was starting to emerge from its shell. Now we're talking about a mobile version, and I'm even happier - a mobile platform has the potential to expose the game to a much larger player base, and most importantly, to players who don't or can't spend a lot of time in front of a computer. Personally, I’m a good example of the type of player Tanki is looking for when introducing a mobile app. Why? I spend a lot of my time with family, so free time at home in front of a computer is not always easy to come by. On the other hand, I can usually find odd chunks of time throughout the day to unwind using my mobile phone. For example, on a normal day, I play via my computer for about 30-60 minutes in the morning, yet I can find two to three times that amount of time around lunchtime, odd quiet moments throughout the day, and in the early evening to sit quietly with my phone. Currently, I'm spending that time on the Forum since obviously I can't play the game on mobile (yet). This can be frustrating when I read about a new feature or event on the News and Announcements but can't play until as late as the next day. I'm excited just thinking about being able to jump right in via a mobile app. I would use it every day, several times a day. Of course, there is a lot about the Tanki Online mobile app which we don't yet know. Will it integrate with Tanki Online, or will it be a standalone game like the 'blitz' version of World of Tanks? For now, I will assume it will integrate, since a non-integrated version is not likely to draw much interest. Again, I'm excited to be able (finally!) to visit my real garage, make equipment changes, purchase items and upgrades for crystals, and use the shop (Apple pay, anyone?). Yes, I'm a buyer, and I expect a mobile solution to enable me to purchase for real money via mobile. Not implementing mobile purchases would be a huge missed opportunity and represent a significant lost revenue stream. Of course, I am assuming all this will function in the mobile game similarly to how it does in the browser, but time will tell. And then there are battles. At long, long last, I'll be able to hop on the battlefield whenever I have a spare moment and a decent data signal. @PracticeParkourStunt: Tanki Online is a fast paced multiplayer game that is highly inferior to other games in the market (War Thunder, World of Tanks). Though this is true, Tanki Online is unique due to the fact that it is fast paced, has bizarre graphics, and requires pretty low computer requirements. With the addition of the mobile version, Tanki might be more interesting. Personally, I will not frequently use the mobile version of Tanki since I have no mobile (rip me), but the mobile version has some pretty good advantages that pecks my interests. For starters, the mobile version will come handy when on vacation, where the computer is unavailable. It breaks my heart to see my beautiful 4th chain being broken. Being in a clan or parkour club will not be troublesome on vacations since you can still attend trainings. Furthermore, Tanki is better at being a mobile game than a PC. Just think about it: If Clash of Clans was first introduced as a PC game, hardly anyone would play it. If Tanki becomes a mobile game as well, players will acknowledge the portability and low requirements of Tanki; a 3D game on mobile will look good. True, PC gamers won't mock Tanki anymore, just the mobile users. Moreover, almost all games (this excludes monopoly) are fun to play with friends. With mobile version, one could go to their friend's place and play together, rather than using social network (which isn't allowed by some LEDC's parents), or bringing an entire laptop. The last but most physically important point is that you can play at any positions that you want. Tanki will stop giving back sores to dedicated players. The Mobile Version of Tanki has a long way to go, and a lot of problems to clean. PC users will have advantage over mobile users, or Tanki will give mobile users special features, so mobile users will be superior to PC users. Tanki is a fast paced game, and the entire team might be on the losing side if a phone call is to appear. The small screen of mobiles will be a major disadvantage for those who use long ranged turrets. The major problem will be the controls. One solution to rotating turret might be tilting sideways, and camera tilt by back or forth. Perhaps there will be a fixed camera position pointed at the closest enemy. A cross hair maybe implemented for ease of use. I bet that other users who are in the interview have already said pretty much the same thing, but the MAIN reason why I support mobile version is because, as soon as mobile version will be released, there will be a possibility of having an increased fund or Gold drops to encourage players try out the mobile version. @falcosenna1: I tend to agree on Developers' decision to create a mobile version of the game. Developers told us they stopped advertising the game until they bring it to what they want the game to look like. Hence, we see the unfortunate decrease in the number of active players and battles. With the launch of a mobile version, the player-base might grow again since new players might find out about the game this way. With a growing player-base, the game might also get better known to other platforms, giving it new chances to cooperate with them. I, myself, will probably try the mobile version a few times, but I think I won't prefer it over my computer. I think browser players will always have some advantage over mobile players even though developers said we won't be able to distinguish both from each other. When I look at all keys we use playing in battles, it's hard to believe you'll be able to perform just as well on the mobile version. Like, you can drive and turn your turret at the same time, but how will we be able to activate supplies, fire our turrets all at the same time on our mobile? Leave aside the option to change our view of the map (Q and E on our keyboards). I currently don't see how that's possible, but perhaps developers can surprise us. Though, I believe browser players will always have the advantage. I don't think the Matchmaking System is the prerequisite for the mobile version. I don't think there is some prerequisite for it to be launched. With the Matchmaking System, mobile players will be randomly spread over battles, but without the system, a mobile player can also randomly pop up in your battle. He then chose to join your battle, but for you, it's a random player who joined. The Matchmaking System is meant to make battles more balanced and fight the mult problem. Hence I don't see it as the prerequisite. Mobile game competition is pretty hard. Clash Royale, Clash of Clans, Castle Clash. These are just a few names of mobile games with 50-100 million downloads, but TO might steal players from these games, or players from these games might decide to play both the game they used to play and TO. In the beginning, I think it won't really be the other way around. Most TO players already know about those other highly popular mobile games and quite some of them already play those games. Once TO gets to be one of the more popular games on mobile, the real competition with other mobile games can begin. It's up to the developers to 'win' this competition which won't be an easy task I guess. :P @Vikingsrallentando: I agree with the developer's plans to develop a mobile version but I disagree with how they are going about this. Since advertisement of the game has dropped, the amount of new players has also. I think allocating resources to produce a mobile version of such a complex game is not beneficial for current players. People 'grow out of' games, its a natural tendency for people to move on after being saturated in a game for so long. There are not enough new players progressing through the ranks and the work that went into maintaining the player-base is going to waste. Matchmaking has been projected as a prerequisite to the mobile version because it enables players to enter the battle through cues and not through a long battle list. In regards to the mobile version, it's a great idea, but what prevented such an option before? It's difficult to start battles that progress to evenly matched fights, especially on rare maps. Matchmaking is a step in the right direction to eliminate stagnant battles and I don't think that has been emphasized enough. I'm open to trying the mobile version once it is released, but I will not be playing it regularly though. There you have it! Out of those that were polled, the majority agree with the development of the mobile version of Tanki. What do you think? Leave your comments bellow. See ya! -
Announcement Newspaper Issues Take a Break This August
Vikingsrallentando replied to Vikingsrallentando in Newspaper Issues Take a Break This August Newspaper Archive
Dear Newspaper Readers, The last 6 months have showed a lot of progress for the Newspaper. We put more emphasis on the production of Special Feature articles that publish in response to developer and community news. In order to ensure the next 6 months are as productive if not more productive than the last 6, we will be postponing the publishing of Issue 67 that would have normally published in August. This gives the reporter team some time to relax and decompress from their hard work over the past few months. Another big reason to postpone this Issue is due to the Newspaper Survey being conducted right now (If you haven't submitted yet, do it now!). The extra month of preparation will allow us to process and enact change around your opinions and requests for the Newspaper. We apologize for the extended period of time between the next Issue. We will strive to provide content you want to read, and this will help us achieve that goal. Issue 66 will publish this Friday as scheduled! Stay tuned for that. The Newspaper Survey concludes on July 21st. Issue 67 will publish Friday, September 1st. We hope you all are having a great summer. See you in the fall :)- 25 replies

Review [Special] Patch #461 & Vlog #134
Vikingsrallentando replied to Vikingsrallentando in [Special] Patch #461 & Vlog #134 Newspaper Archive
A largely foreseen Patch Update and an informative Vlog were at center stage of the last news week. Bonus/Discount cards have made it into the game with Patch #461. Plans for the mobile version and the steps that need to be taken to get it optimized are explained in the Vlog #134. Let's take a closer look. Bonus & Discount Cards First announced in Vlog #133, the Patch Update #461 brought them to the game. There are two types; first, we'll explore the Bonus Cards that can be given to anyone at any time, similar to how the "Double Crystal Card' (or DCC) worked. Bonus Card - Crystal Minimum rank: Gefreiter Bonus: 100% This is the new name for the DCC. It doubles the amount of crystals you receive when you buy them in the Shop. Bonus Card - Gold Box Minimum rank: Warrant Officer 1 Bonus: 20% Similar to the crystal card, it affects the output. If you buy 10 golds, you will get 12; a 20% bonus. Bonus Card - Premium Account Minimum rank: Recruit Bonus: 25% This increases the length of Premium time you purchase. The card will give you 25% more time to take advantage of Premium status. Here are the set of Discount cards. In contrast to the Bonus cards, these Discount cards affect your input, so you'll pay less for the item instead of getting more at the given price. Discount Card - Crystal Minimum rank: Recruit Discount: -25% When purchasing crystals, you'll pay 25% less than the original price. Discount Card - Gold Box Minimum rank: Warrant Officer 1 Discount: -15% You'll pay 15% less for the same amount of Gold Boxes. You get the idea. Discount Card - Premium Account Minimum rank: Recruit Discount: -20% Discount Card - Paint Minimum rank: Recruit Discount: -50% Discount Card - Product/Supply Kits Minimum rank: Master Corporal Discount: -25% Matchmaking System Update The discussion of the matchmaking system was prefaced with Ms. Aleksandra Nozhenko's response to players' requests to hear more about the mobile version of the game. She said the controls have been decided, but may require adjusting during testing. First, the game needs to be converted to the new HTML5 version. Second, the matchmaking system needs to be implemented. Both of these implementations can help you as a desktop player, but it is crucial for the mobile version's success. As you know, Tanki is based on the Adobe Flash platform. The platform has become obsolete in most gaming circles and does not work on mobile phones. In order to provide Tanki to you when you're waiting to get a ride or taking a break from homework when you're away from your computer, the game needs to shift over to HTML5, which is supported on most smart phones. The second feature that will enable a seamless experience is the matchmaking system. This will enable mobile users to enter a battle with just one click. It strips the freedom that you get with the battle list in the browser version, but on a phone, you don't want to be wasting data to find the perfect match. The system will find you the most convenient battle for you. In order to make this work, many maps need to be able to fit 10 vs 10 in team battles. Here is Highlands, an example of how it would look. Each team receives another high ground area with a good amount of cover and a couple spawn points. Here is the expanded version of Silence. Each base gets more space to spawn within and the space between the bases is expanded by one prop space (or 5 meters). Lead Game designer Semyon Strizhak mentioned the normal version of the map as you know it will be available in PRO-Battles. The new versions may also become an available choice in battle creation, but that is not confirmed. So what do you think; are you excited for the new cards? What do you think about the new map versions? Stay tuned to the news and Newspaper Specials section for the latest news. See ya! -

Review [Special] Chat Violations Section Closure
Vikingsrallentando replied to Vikingsrallentando in [Special] Chat Violations Section Closure Newspaper Archive
Sir James M. Barrie once stated: “Temper is a weapon that we hold by the blade.” Our temperaments vary between each individual. Some people’s blood runs hotter than others, or boils much faster when provoked. Recently, the Chat Violations section of the forum was closed due to the few who took advantage of the system and used it with bad intentions. Let’s explore the situation further. Official Statement Let’s start with the official statement that could've been seen at the top of the Chat Violations sub-forum that is now closed, then we’ll dive into the deeper issue that caused this closure. The system worked quite well, however that was not the purpose of taking these submissions. It was more appropriate for circumstances where a whole server is threatened by a scammer, for an example, and a moderator was not able to come in time. Players took it upon themselves to act as wannabe mods and watch for ban worthy offenses. The desire for justice is understandable. But moderators are designated, approved helpers that are trained to handle offenses in an appropriate manner. Since the opportunity was available, players were capable of; falsifying offenses and submitting them, threatening players with evidence they may or may not have against them, and submitting violations to further their personal vendettas. The rules of the community are put in place to ensure the Tanki experience is a pleasant for people of any age, ethnicity, and culture. If players are submitting violations of these rules to get a rush of justice or further their own injustices, then that defeats the point of submitting these violations in in the first place; thus, the Chat Violations Section is now closed due to the actions of the few. It might be worth considering these two cases of misuse of effort and emotion and figure out where they can best be focused towards. Seeking Justice Fighting for something you think is right and eventually obtaining that something is euphoric experience. It has been successful on such a small scale for this community that a few have fought to defend the rules, though it has not worked out in this case. There are other ways to seek and gain victories and participate within the community in such a way as to better it without going too far. Set mini-goals within the battles you play. Daily missions are a great starting point. Maybe there is an annoying Shaft that is picking off your teammates as they enter the enemy base, perhaps you can be the one to destroy it, allowing your teammates to attack. Simple things within the context of the battle go a long way. When you’re not in battle, participate in forum conversation. Sometimes heated discussion (that does not involve flaming, or “arguing for the sake of arguing”) can be healthy for developing argumentative skills. It can be quite satisfying knowing you put forth better ideas. There are also many creative opportunities, where you can express yourself in many different mediums. Join a clan and participate in eSports, where the rewards can be quite fulfilling. Play in community events. Conquer buildings in parkour. There are a multitude of different augmentations to game to take advantage of. If you are interested in becoming a helper, you can apply in the designated section if applications are open. We are looking for mature and organized individuals to maintain the community. Clean ban history isn't always a must but the will to help the whole community and work for the benefit of everyone in it is. Cooling Tempers Getting back to Sir Barrie's quote, "Temper is a weapon we hold by the blade." It's human nature to have things get under the skin, causing tempers to flare and choice words to fly. If it makes you feel any better, adults still struggle with this as well. The notion that adults are more sophisticated than children is kind of misleading as any adult can act like a child, but they chose not to for various reasons that are self explanatory. Similarly, they keep their tempers controlled in public. As a general rule, it's best to back away from something that stimulates anger. In Tanki, if the participants of a match or if the match itself is frustrating you, take a deep breath, maybe step away from the game entirely and come back when you've calmed down. This will prevent you from unintentionally saying or doing something you'll regret. Little did the few players out to further vendettas know that what they were doing is no better than a single, lone violation. They are holding the blade by its sharp, cutting edge instead of the safe, dull handle. Their cause is not better, it's worse. To such a degree that it overshadowed all legitimate cases of regular injustice reports. How to Handle Violators The official statement directs you to the help site page on the chat system, check it out to find a complete list of possible commands. Right now we want to focus on the following commands: Instead of taking the time to screenshot the chat, upload the image, and report, you can block the player who is causing trouble. Simply click on that player's nickname and then choose the option "Ignore". Or you can copy the nickname, type "/block" and space, paste the username, and hit enter. The foul comments will be removed, you won't have to worry about that player anymore since you won't see him or her again. And it can be done with an unlimited number of players. Another way of protecting yourself on the chat is to simply disable private messages from everyone or disable the whole chat. Both options are available in Settings. Disabling either or both options will not influence your game-play in any way. Of course this only works for text violations. For cases of sabotage and anything of the like, you can used the "/vote nickname" function in battle. You can also report any game violation in the Game Violations Section on the forum. Can I still Report Chat Violators? The answer is yes, and no. There are some instances where contacting a Chat Administrator would be necessary, though it is difficult to quantify or mention specifics. The block function should take care of the problem from your perspective. If you however decide that a measure is needed against an individual player, please only report the serial offenders, those who are disrupting the community at large. To report these rare instances, contact Chat Administrators. They will assess the evidence and decide accordingly. Do not contact a Chat Moderator with evidence. If you ever have any problems with a Chat Moderator, please contact a Chat Administrator and they will try to resolve the problem. Similarly for the forum, if you see a post that violates the rules, click the "Report" button in the bottom right corner of the post. You can enter an explanation of why you think it is a violation and press "Submit Report". A Forum Moderator will handle the situation as soon as possible. If you have any problems with Forum Moderators, you can contact a Forum Administrator to get the issue resolved. Hopefully all wanna-be moderators find other outlets to success and all skirmishes between fellow tankers are squashed (kindly). And find a food for thought in these words by Calvin Dillard: "Weak people revenge, strong people forgive, intelligent people ignore!" Thanks for reading and take care. Please Note: I am not a Chat or Forum Administrator. I have no control over matters regarding chat or forum violations. I am a Reporter Administrator. Please contact me with issues regarding Special Features only, thank you! -

You've used some props in ways I've not seen before. Bravo! The map kind of reminds me of Chernobyl, but it's still really unique. I suggest fooling around with the ground tiles. You kept with that dark grass throughout the entire thing. Explore the textures of the tile props, do the different gradations of the grass and put the cement tiles underneath buildings. Will give it a more realistic look. Wherever you see the flashing textures, it means the props don't go well together and overlap. Try to fix those areas, like the roof tiles you used on that building. Also, try adding boxes, tubes, and the blue and red cargo boxes around the map. I'd also suggest some sort of wall around the perimeter.
-
Sorry, another follow up. Your answer to question 12 about the possibility of increasing battle funds for larger maps: "I can suggest it to the developers; but the thing is, when you have bigger maps, you tend to have bigger players so the battle fund is going to be bigger." I'm wondering if there is data collected that suggests that there is not a discrepancy between the battle fund value in smaller, medium, and large maps? Do smaller map battle funds finish close to large map battle funds?
-
Of course as you explain on the last part of your response to the question, though "a big maybe" was what caught the ear. I hope the process I outlined (which probably took place back in '09, until '11) made sense and would strongly suggest its promotion. Players can't help you with HTML5, but they can help you piece together maps. I certainly did not mistake you for a mod, nor do I recall playing with you. I also don't think it would be very productive to bring this up here as this is not tech support. They have their own reasons for denying the change. Branding it as an insult to players is insulting to tech support.
-
The Newspaper is working on this as we speak. Keep an eye out for it in our Portal or the Specials section.
-
Follow up question in response to your answer to the new Map question: Are player created maps an avenue that is being considered? Many maps in the game now have been made by players. Allowing the players to submit prospective maps would allow Developers to focus on other things instead of do all the work (creating, testing, etc). I've made maps myself and know first hand it is tedious. Map Makers can piece them together; then Testers can assess the balance, an issue you brought up in response to the chat question. After it is assessed, Developers can look at the Testers work and add maps to the game accordingly.

To make my point more clear; it should be one or the other. You could give your opinion or do a goof article. Your serious opinion with facts or just do satire with few facts.
-
Perhaps you should have put your opinion disclaimer in the beginning as your description of Music History is grossly inaccurate. "Unofficial" or not, it's hard to take the rest of the article seriously. The analogy to Natural Selection demonstrates why good music gets recognized, not actually why music is created. You seem to be giving a genuine opinion, but is the meme necessary?
