Advice for new players: In order to enjoy Tanki, you have to know your enemy
v_C replied to v_C in Advice for new players: In order to enjoy Tanki, you have to know your enemy Archive
In every situation in life, Tanki Online being no exception, the fundamental condition for success and enjoyment is to know your enemy. An obvious idea for your enemy in Tanki is the players of the opposite team. But they are not your enemy, they are just your competition. They compete with you under a set of rules which are equal for both of you. Consider them with chivalry (even if they are low lives who use hovering hulls with mouse controls). Some claim that the developers were your enemy, for framing a game that would give an advantage to players who spend ever more money on the game. However, developers in their work just follow the rules of a capitalist economy, and if you work on your skills build your garage smartly, you will always be fine. A philosophical and Buddhist perspective would be that you yourself are your enemy, for your emotions tormenting you in gameplay. While this is a valuable perspective, it does not apply to a game, as the point of playing is to dramatically experience yourself and your emotions in a safe and non-serious setting. Some say that your enemy in Tanki were cheaters and "mults". Do not listen to them. Since the introduction of the Matchmaking system, "multing" has disappeared as an issue on Tanki, and cheating is almost non-existing, the hyperactive anti-cheat-system is much more of a nuisance than actual cheating. So if all those are not your enemy, who actually is? You will learn that teammates without a real life driving licence are your enemy. Teammates who never got educated against reckless driving are your enemy. Teammates who never learned to give consideration to acting in concert are your enemy. When they recklessly ram your tank (in particular while you are aiming), recklessly shoot their weapon without aim and purpose while hitting teammates, recklessly block narrow pathways, recklessly drive into your line of fire, then you will eventually recognize that it is them who is your true enemy. You will learn to hate and to curse them. -
This is one of the two strategic development mistakes of this game. The first being a misguided focus on turnover and profit per player rather than overall turnover and profit, and the second being the infantilization of gameplay.

I am sure that @Opex-Rah knows the profile pages exist, he just does not care about them at all. So I am trying to raise awareness that many players and customers do care, some of them even very much so (for example, I know several whales aka high paying customers who do huge amounts of data analysis with their own and other profiles), and kindly ask to take the less than two coding hours necessary to fix them.

You remind me to why I once left this forum, and I will take this reminder seriously. However, as you buried this post of mine, you might want to answer the substance of it in this graveyard here as well. For years, forum moderators used to reply to complaints about the dire state of the profile pages with ridicule for the complaining players and customers, and occasionally with the claim that "very soon" profiles would be integrated into the game itself, so that fixing the existing profile pages were no priority. As this latter argument apparently is not only weak (the existing pages are appreciated much by many, and fixing them would only be a very small effort) but also is patently false, is there anything left other than ridicule for the players and customers? It would be such a great show of professionalism in forum moderation if you would now spend your attention not with seeking reasons to delete my comment, but rather with answering it in substance. But my hopes on this are not high.

I recently met @Opex-Rah in battle, and in battle chat asked him about the issue of fixing the profile pages. The reply I received was that he wasn't even aware that these existed. Dear Hazel, dear community management, I am fully aware that you feel utter contempt for any player or customer who cares about profile pages. On a human level, you are of course free to feel whatever you want about this. But on a professional level, I do not understand why this minimal investment which would let Tanki look so much more alive and well groomed to existing and new players and customers, and would satisfy a strongly held desire by many players and customers, including your best paying whales, why on earth do you not just take the negligible effort of less than two coding hours to fix it? For technical details on the issue, I take the liberty to quote an almost two year old submission.

Gauss is fun to play with after the recent remake, were it not for this bug or glitch that has you deal zero damage with about half of your sniping shots. Please fix this.

Our German language forum now has a mention of the issue and an apology up on top. I think @Vickoletta is doing a fine professional job, better than the much bigger English language community management. And not only in this case, I do often read information earlier and more accurate and extensive in the German language forum than here. On the other hand, I prefer the strictly neutral stance on those real life events since February 24th, which we may not talk about (so I do not talk about it, although I have a strong personal opinion on the issue), by the English language community management over the subtly affirmative stance by the German language community management. So, depending on what your bottom line preferences are, you might want to use the German language forum with google translate.

I took a look at your account profile. Your problem is that you do not own a maxed Armadillo module, which is the single most powerful item in the game, protecting your tank against "critical damage", a category of damage that is randomly handed out by all weapons, to a varying degree, which the regular modules do not protect against. The issue with 9699 versus 9999 probably is that you do not own a fourth module slot. You could have solved both issues by buying a 990 tankoin bundle in the Tanki funds that ran for a month and ended last Sunday. Maybe you can get Armadillo (and the fourth slot) in an upcoming fund event, or you spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars on ultra containers hoping for Armadillo and buy the fourth module slot for 50 dollars. Anyway, you are lucky that these are your worries, as most players cannot even enter the game or load a battle since Wednesday noon.

The Armadillo module, properly upgraded, is the single most powerful piece of equipment in this game. But as the game will not allow the loading of battles for most players since Wednesday noon, the Armadillo module is as irrelevant as any other piece of equipment.

It is virtually impossible to load a battle since yesterday noon. However, reports of the issue in this thread have been systematically removed. I have seen at least a dozen of them in this thread alone since yesterday which then disappeared. Including two conversations I myself engaged in. No traces left. This is almost comical at this point. For the record, I now see three posts about the issue now, all from the last hour.

In my opinion, matchmaking has only one major issue, and this is the far too big rank brackets. While this is a serious issue through all rank levels, the issue is most bizarre where Legend players are frequently matched with folk who cannot even access mk7 gear. And to the initial question: There are no "bots" or "mults" in matchmaking battles. I wish these conspiracy theories would just go away, because they distract from properly addressing things. There are incompetent players, there are players with technical issues, there are plenty of players with maturity and character deficits. But "multing" is virtually impossible in the MMS, and this is one of the system's greatest advantages.

Right above my post from an hour ago, which started this conversation, there was a post from some other player who wrote he cannot enter a battle and quoted the error code he receives. Nothing else. The post was removed. Which forum rule did that post break so that it had to be removed?
-
Mate, as I am one of many who basically cannot enter a battle since yesterday, I took some looks into this forum during this time. What I saw I was dozens of complaints about this issue which then were removed by moderators. And no, I am not going to have non-public conversations with any forum moderator, as I am have been done with the utterly unprofessional conduct of the moderation of this forum years ago. I fully understand that you guys are only concerned with your ego. However, I had an apparently unwarranted hope that something may have changed. I see that it has not. Have fun deleting this message.

I always shrugged it off when some people referred to Tanki as "a dying game". But when I see that since yesterday, moderators of this forum have started to delete reports of inability to load battles, I really reconsider my opinion. How pathetic can a human being become? The issue apparently concerns a huge number of players and customers, as reports keep popping up across the forum. It should be resolved, not looked away from.

I know what is and has always been in the Wiki. It says 50 percent experience boost penalty: https://imgur.com/a/nFItWSB But ingame, in the window after the end of a battle, it recently started to say the same number of experience points with or without Premium. Here is an example: https://imgur.com/a/nFItWSB So what is it? Can you help, @Marekos1111@Sabry.Superman ?
