    Question about May Day

Without calling anyone out by name, I am amazed at the ignorance here. (cexcepting Micky3 ;) thank you brother :) ) I am from Chicago, Il in the USA. I am a Socialist. WE are the ones that started May Day world wide, long before there was a Soviet Union. :!: I hope everyone takes a moment and reflects on the sacrifices made by workers all over the world on May 1st that have built the world we see around us. The advances made over the last hundred plus years would not be possible without the hard work of those souls who day in and day out work to keep the world turning while others capitalize on their efforts. Those in power have gone to great lengths to try and erase the Workers International from our collective memories. This should not be. Here is a bit of history for those that are interested in what May Day is all about......... http://www.encyclopedia.chicagohistory.org/pages/571.html Haymarket and May Day On May 1, 1886, Chicago unionists, reformers, socialists, anarchists, and ordinary workers combined to make the city the center of the national movement for an eight-hour day. Between April 25 and May 4, workers attended scores of meetings and paraded through the streets at least 19 times. On Saturday, May 1, 35,000 workers walked off their jobs. Tens of thousands more, both skilled and unskilled, joined them on May 3 and 4. Crowds traveled from workplace to workplace urging fellow workers to strike. Many now adopted the radical demand of eight hours' work for ten hours' pay. Police clashed with strikers at least a dozen times, three with shootings. At the McCormick reaper plant, a long-simmering strike erupted in violence on May 3, and police fired at strikers, killing at least two. Anarchists called a protest meeting at the West Randolph Street Haymarket, advertising it in inflammatory leaflets, one of which called for “Revenge!” The crowd gathered on the evening of May 4 on Des Plaines Street, just north of Randolph, was peaceful, and Mayor Carter H. Harrison, who attended, instructed police not to disturb the meeting. But when one speaker urged the dwindling crowd to “throttle” the law, 176 officers under Inspector John Bonfield marched to the meeting and ordered it to disperse. Then someone hurled a bomb at the police, killing one officer instantly. Police drew guns, firing wildly. Sixty officers were injured, and eight died; an undetermined number of the crowd were killed or wounded. The Haymarket bomb seemed to confirm the worst fears of business leaders and others anxious about the growing labor movement and radical influence in it. Mayor Harrison quickly banned meetings and processions. Police made picketing impossible and suppressed the radical press. Chicago newspapers publicized unsubstantiated police theories of anarchist conspiracies, and they published attacks on the foreign-born and calls for revenge, matching the anarchists in inflammatory language. The violence demoralized strikers, and only a few well-organized strikes continued. Police arrested hundreds of people, but never determined the identity of the bomb thrower. Amidst public clamor for revenge, however, eight anarchists, including prominent speakers and writers, were tried for murder. The partisan Judge Joseph E. Gary conducted the trial, and all 12 jurors acknowledged prejudice against the defendants. Lacking credible evidence that the defendants threw the bomb or organized the bomb throwing, prosecutors focused on their writings and speeches. The jury, instructed to adopt a conspiracy theory without legal precedent, convicted all eight. Seven were sentenced to death. The trial is now considered one of the worst miscarriages of justice in American history. Many Americans were outraged at the verdicts, but legal appeals failed. Two death sentences were commuted, but on November 11, 1887, four defendants were hanged in the Cook County jail; one committed suicide. Hundreds of thousands turned out for the funeral procession of the five dead men. In 1893, Governor John Peter Altgeld granted the three imprisoned defendants absolute pardon, citing the lack of evidence against them and the unfairness of the trial. Inspired by the American movement for a shorter workday, socialists and unionists around the world began celebrating May 1, or “May Day,” as an international workers' holiday. In the twentieth century, the Soviet Union and other Communist countries officially adopted it. The Haymarket tragedy is remembered throughout the world in speeches, murals, and monuments. American observance was strongest in the decade before World War I. During the Cold War, many Americans saw May Day as a Communist holiday, and President Eisenhower proclaimed May 1 as “Loyalty Day” in 1955. Interest in Haymarket revived somewhat in the 1980s. A monument commemorating the “Haymarket martyrs” was erected in Waldheim Cemetery in 1893. In 1889 a statue honoring the dead police was erected in the Haymarket. Toppled by student radicals in 1969 and 1970, it was moved to the Chicago Police Academy. I'd like to add: On May 20-21 this year, Chicago will host a meeting of NATO members. Anger is high, unrest is building, and the Police are ready and willing to crush any form of dissent. May 1st might be overshadowed by May 20-21 in the future comrades. Take warning. Be ready. -Panzer Runner

    Anti-Cheat feedback

What no one seems to be asking is "Why is no one fixing the exploits" Everyone is arguing over the effectiveness of stopping cheaters AFTER they cheat. This makes no sense to anyone who writes code for a living. There are many cheats out there in the wild that show just how many holes there are in the code that Tanki Online runs on. Is this a problem with Tanki? Or is this a weakness of the Alternativa Platform? Why would you try and catch thieves by letting them steal and then finding out their habits rather than just lock the door in the first place? From a technical standpoint how is it that people are able to teleport and increase speed and power? What about patching the code so it DOES NOT ALLOW those acts to take place rather than behaviour modeling millions of players????? This is so stupid it's almost funny! For example: when a map contains polygons / meshes that don't match up perfectly, or any other poor design work, it can be exploited by smart glitch cheaters to do things like get inside buildings or shoot through walls etc. In those cases fixing the map would stop the cheats. In other cases people have found a weakness in passing variables back to the game that must result in teleporting and all that (just a guess). Solution: FIX THE CODE!!!!! Validate that the player movement routines make sense BEFORE allowing it to take place. My gut feeling is that Tanki Online is basically held hostage by the fact that its simply run on the alternativa platform which probably has many weaknesses and they are not very concerned about it. Tanks are dropping onto flags out of thin air and the solution is to log the behaviour and develop models of the behaviours ??? Give me a break already. Fix the code !!! I'd like to remind everyone that this is supposed to be a commercial game. People spend REAL money on it. To spend REAL money on something that is so insecure and broken like this is just crazy. If the code exploits are not the fault of Tanki Online devs, but rather the fault of the Alternativa Platform, we should let them know with the voices of the 9 million players here!

    Developers' news

I use a Mac and the biggest complaint I have is that Safari sucks so bad that it crashes too much. Don't suggest Chrome because there I end up with a 1-2 FPS! And Firefox crashes too often too. So I thought maybe my OS was sucking too bad so I ordered an upgrade from Apple for about $50. Seemed good for a day or two and now it crashes just as much as ever, never mind resetting my Mac. Guess you just got to live with it and all the hackers on Silenece and Silence II that are constantly ruining the game and Tanki putting no one live in the games to solve the problem. You can't even page a Mod from inside the game, so yeah, it just sucks. Life goes on. I use Safari not because its great, but because it is my best option. Firefox and Chrome can be "stable" and connect, but have horrible framerates. I have OSX 10.5.8 and will not update just for Tanki Online. In Safari, I am using Flash 10.3.183.18. If you want to try the new Hardware Acceleration, you will NEED to have at least OSX 10.6 or you will NEVER get any hardware acceleration here. If you are OSX 10.5 or below, I'd stick with Flash 10.3 (it is stable) I use Mac OSX 10.5.8 and Flash 10.3.183.18 and that combo gives me pretty stable results with ONLY Safari and framerates of about 25 FPS average. On my Windows 7 box, using Flash 11 I get 50-60 FPS Mac INFO summary: OSX 10.6 and Above ----> Use Flash 11 (new Hardware Accelerated Tanki, 50-60 FPS) OSX 10.5 and Below ----> Use Flash 10.3 ( 20-25 FPS ) Firefox on Mac has gotten buggy and horrible Chrome on Mac is fine, but I find BAD framerates with Tanki, and no Fixes Safari on Mac is best option, even if it crashes every now and then (usually due to bad Flash implementation of Tanki code) The crashes that were happening when the new hardware accelerated patch was released has cleared up

    Developers' news

A few points I need to address: 1) Tanki Online is not and should not be a "cutting edge" high end graphics game. It never was and will never be. Textures as small as these are so far below game standards like other first person shooters its not even funny. That said, Tanki is a REALLY great and fun game to play online due to its flexibility , cross platform and real time, live play. To say that an Intel GPU is um .. useless is absurd to the extreme. I wonder if you know just how many of those "useless" GPU's are out there in laptops and other devices that everyone uses? It implies Tanki Online should be played with higher end machines and if that is true, Tanki Online will be losing large amounts of players. I don't think the devs had this in mind when trying to enable Hardware Acceleration for those that can take advantage of it. 2) In order to use Hardware Acceleration we are supposed to use Flash 11, even though 10.3 and above has had it, so I don't really get why they wrote code for 11 only. 3) Flash 11 will NEVER be supported by Mac OSX 10.5 or below according to Adobe 4) If you have a Mac or use OSX below 10.6 it will never matter what browser you use, you will never get Flash 11 to work, so we are out of luck !!! 5) Before the roll out, I used to get fps of about 25-28 typical, in Chrome, now Chrome is busted and has horrible FPS of like 5-9 even after a complete cleaning of cache (both Chrome and Flash) 6) Safari works better but crashes now more than before as in sudden death and closure of the browser in middle of game! (never happened before) 7) Firefox, Opera, Chrome, Safari will never give me the new Acceleration if it requires Flash 11 since I have OSX 10.5.8 and will not update the OS just to play an online game. As it stands I think we all would like Hardware Acceleration to be for everyone, but that may never happen. The devs should try to make sure they keep a stable build for those that use Flash 10. I want to be able to count on my old 25-30 FPS even if I can't get the 50-60 FPS of HA. As of Now its gimpy at best.

A Formal Protest Against The Ricochet M3

I have to agree with the points made about its ability to bounce you all over the place (I use M3 hornet mostly). That part is way too strong. I dont care that much about the damage, and it does have self damage to balance a bit. The real problem is that it takes no skill in maps like Fort II to have 3 ricos just bounce balls around randomly like a dodgeball game. That sucks. That is no fun at all :( m3 viking with m3 rico can and does own most everyone it seems. I think every combo should have a weakness and I just can't see that combo's weakness. Therefore, it does seem a bit unbalanced. And with that , lets wait 3....2.....1 until a Magic Monkey Man pops in here for the sole purpose to insult ..........

    Twins M3 disrupting tank movement

I have flipped Mammoth with m3 hornet + twins many times. 8) I use twins because , like smokey, it is a weapon that can be really aggravating to the enemy, if used properly. It's also just fun !

There should be a small reward for reporting

I, for one, have ZERO respect for people that snitch on others. Since when did it become "cool" to tell mommy so-and-so said a dirty word? Kids need to start growing up. If there is a serious problem like a player who hacks or steals accounts, sure, report him. Most of the stuff I see is whiners upset at dirty words.
  8. Great point GO_IRELAND and even better, a fresh angle to the discussion, IMHO. Although I agree, I play Tribute quite a bit, and have seen both what you say, as well as druggers who overwhelmed the other side. I have been in battles on both sides. In some, I get lucky and some druggers on our side held off the attack, other times it went bad. Either way, you are right that the map really affects the ability of drugging to make a difference. In Tribute, even with druggers, its not always over right away. It takes time and many times the druggers give up. Plus, even if you lose out because of the drug war (which annoys the he*l out of me) you can gain many ground crystals by giving up and just going into collection mode.
  9. whoa whoa hold your horses man, it's a forum, right? so we come here to read others' thoughts and express ours, right? that said, there's no need to get down to personal issues :? you can probably guess that i can say a lot about yourself too, but we're all adult people here and respect others' features which we find positive and ignore those we don't, ok? + 50,000 Completely irrelevant to the topic. Also learn how to not post multiple posts in a row, it makes you look stupid. Last thing, I think relevant discussion on this topic has ended up as personal fights over who can and can't do what, so I think it's time to lock it once more, like the last topic that was made. Irrelevant opinion by R3EAPER noted and just as quickly dismissed  Your opinion that because small minded trolls and feces throwing little monkey map makers in the cheap seats keep trying their best to derail the discussion does not mean the thread is done. In my opinion, THAT is, as you like to call things "stupid" :P As for that little MonkeyMan or MagicMan or MagicMonkeyMan or whatever his name is, I find it most amusing to be able to wind up people like him. There is no point in responding to his pathetic little comments, since all they really do is show everyone here what type of mind he has. For me, I read his attempted insults and thought to myself "Mission Accomplished" Hahaha  Skitee, I have to get back to this in a bit, when I get a chance... My mom is bringing me soup you see, and I dont have time to post right now :XD:
  10. Yes, that very well could be. I think if clans were to play no-supplies battles, and play that way often enough, it would be well worth 500 crystals to buy a pass. If I could count on playing a no-battles game whenever I wanted to, I would certainly buy the pass. I hope that is the case one day, but as much as I play, I never see more than perhaps 1 or 2 games ever. It would still be unfair to have to buy the pass rather than play free, but to avoid druggers would be worth it. Unfair is one thing, pointless is another and right now its pointless to buy a pass for games that just don't exist. It is interesting to know about the russian side of things :)
  11. If you are reading this, I am doing my job, keeping you reading the forums instead of ruining games by drugging
  12. LOL , the cheap seats are filling in fast up in the peanut gallery. i fully assure you almost never win more crystals from a drug war than you spend on it This is exactly why its so annoying to get swept up in one if you are trying to earn more crystals then spending them. I couldn't agree more with your math ;) i fully assure you almost never win more crystals from a drug war than you spend on it Which is again, why it sucks to spend hours in a game thinking you will gain some crystals, then be swept up in a lame 1234 fest just hoping others on your team can 1234 back enough to save the game. pay 500 once and you're safe for a whole month :? oh, and it was 2000 back in the days when earning crystals was MUCH more difficult than now... so i second iNubCake on this It didn't work at 2000 and it doesn't work at 500. The proof is that there are like NO games to play! A good business is flexible and adapts to its customers in order to make it profitable and have return business. Players that stop playing altogether will NEVER buy ANYTHING. We will never know how much Tanki is losing because of customers driven away by unfair rules that have unbalanced the game.
  13. Is that lol agreeing with skitee or panzer? As for me, I agree with skitee. That may be, but you have not heard my rebuttal yet  Thanks so much for replying to our long, thoughtful arguments by including them and simply having LOL to say about them. It has pretty much placed you squarely in the peanut gallery. Eventually you will replace LOL with +1 or perhaps a link to a nasty picture and be well on your way to learning how to debate a topic. :P Umm, yes it was. Your exact words were: On this point I completely agree with you. I see very little moral high ground in someone who buys their way to m3's and then complains about people buying tons of drugs. There is however a structural difference between improvements and drugs. Regardless of if you buy or earn an improvement, it is displayed for everyone to see, while stashes of drugs and how the person uses them are kept secret. This gives druggers an unfair edge. Imagine if I could pretend to be a low rank, or pretend to be using a m0 wasp and m1 smokey and then press 2, 3 and have them become m3 mammoth and m3 thunder. Imagine that happening AFTER dedicating hours playing in a game, and being unable to stop it. When I play and see my team mates are all newbs or just have no skill, I leave. I dont waste time. If I see a good team, but some teammates are newbs, but just new to the game and trying to learn skill and play well, I help them out. I will protect them while they get flags, leave kills for them, and shield them etc. Kills are worth more to them than myself. All of that is predicated on knowing that they are what they say they are. You NEVER KNOW how many drugs a player may have, nor do you know their gameplay style. You can not regulate or legislate morals, only try and create a balanced playing field for everyone and let nature take its course. The issue is not whether or not drugging is immoral, rather it's "Is it immoral to use them simply to fundamentally change the style of gameplay mid-game without any way of stopping it. " After playing a CTF game for hours, its a kick in the as$ to have someone change into a mad drugger. Can I change into my other tank body? (we know there are tricks, but its not supported by the devs, nor meant to be part of the game) Drugs are meant to drive income, and I dont really disagree with that part. I do STRONGLY disagree with the fact that games that allow non-drugging only COST while drugging allowed costs NOTHING to join. It is why you see almost 0 "no-supplies" battles. If it was the same cost to join a game that allows drugging as a game that does NOT allow drugging, it would be balanced. That could not be simpler to understand. I will try again to explain the difference. I do not respect druggers. So what. I do not respect buyers. Also so what. They are two different topics. No one can be in the middle of a battle and decide that they are being beaten by a better player and can press 1234 and presto chango become more powerful in response to being pwnd ;) See how that is different? See how its different to be on a skilled team with the right combo of weapons etc, be winning, and then have druggers on the other side discover that your side (which you had no idea ) has NO DRUGS? or just leaves rather than drug back? The only solution is to have a no-druggers allowed type battle, and there is that with a no-supplies pass. The only issue is that it COST and NO ONE MAKES GAMES of that type even if you BUY the dam* pass. I did answer exactly this a few lines above  BTW - I think this is how arguments should be discussed and I am quite enjoying it :) You please answer me this: Do you think I pay for drugs right now? Do you think I buy a pass for no drugs right now? Would making no-supplies battles free cost Tanki Online any income from me and if so, how?
  14. I want to thank you for speaking up, there is many of us out there playing and feeling exactly like you do, but do not say anything.
  15. Great idea, and I know others have called for something like this. This way everyone would be happy.
