I do not think so. It is impossible to drop totally random - game server can drop it only on crystals or supplies spots. And selecting random spot will cause not one but entire clan to come and guard half of the map to get the gold box. Using random fund will cause overpowered "gold hunters" to come to battles with much weaker opponents. Now they do not have an interest in it.

In team battles gold boxes should be enabled for players that entered the game for more than than X minutes. Where X is based on overall rank, battle fund and so on. The time could also be just higher than 3/4 of the duration of the battle. This way you still have a gold rush, you have to participate in battle to have a chance to get the box and there is no problem with occasional Marshals popping into the battle for 5 minutes just for stealing the box. No one wants to work for others. And the chance should be given to the ones that deserve it.
