[Issue 4] All You Need To Be a Pro - Weapons

Weapons are what make Tanki what it is. They are what allow your tank to interact with the virtual world around it. Without weapons, Tanki would be a very boring game, wouldn’t it? Since weapons are the key to having fun with this massively multiplayer browser based 3d war game, it’s important that you make wise decisions in your selection of weapons. But how to pick which weapon is suitable for you? Assess yourself in the following categories:

-Your Personality/ Playing Style
-Your Clans/Teams, if you’re in any
-Your Hull/Paint Combination

Your Personality/Playing Style

While your “personality” and idiosyncrasies may seem a bit jocular when applied to what weapon you choose, allow me to indulge myself in explaining to you how I interpret people’s personalities and their appropriate weapons. Your attitude and personality is how you interact with your surroundings. Fitting it seems, to use your traits to discover your particular weapon that suits you. I’ll focus on the upper tier weapons, since they’re the ones that everyone strives for, and lower tier weps only serve to bring them closer to the following:

Isida: Isida is for all those hirelings out there who love to do seemingly kind things for some hidden personal gain. Suitable for anyone who loves to act suave and ingratiating, this weapon heals teammates for points. It’s that simple; no courage, bravery, or risks involved!

Thunder: For those brave, courageous, straightforward (and shooting) people, Thunder will be your weapon of choice. Thundering an orotund explosion at every shot, this weapon of mass destruction wreaks havoc and fear upon the enemy. Ironically it’s one of the few guns in the game that actually sounds like a weapon. After all, Isida sounds like a mosquito, Freeze sounds like a yawning chihuahua, Rico sounds as if someone forgot to turn off the sink, and Shaft sounds like your dismissive, annoying older sister flicking her hand in your face and going “Psh”. If you are one who is very straightforward, honest, honorable, and aggressive, Thunder is your weapon!

Freeze: Pretend you are walking happily down the sidewalk, when suddenly a hulking figure rapidly approaches you and wants you to hand over all the loose change in your pocket, what do you do? You run, of course! It’s just too bad that you’ve just done the Krispy Kreme challenge, where you run a 5k and eat a dozen donuts, and you really could use the extra boost of speed. Of course it’s impossible to apply in real life, but Freeze is the weapon for those of you who’d follow your instinct to use your maneuverability to outwit a larger opponent, rather than fight head-on.

Ricochet: Tennis, Ping-Pong players, unite! Utilizing the simple laws of physics and elastic collisions, Ricochet lets you damage targets around the corner without direct confrontation. Ricochet is for those clever, skillful individuals who lack the muscle to fight, but instead use their brains to vanquish their enemies. Cowardly, but clever nonetheless.

Shaft: You are very particular about details. You get really annoyed in school when you miss that one point that tips you from an A to a B+. If you're somewhat OCD, then shaft is your weapon. Shaft's long range and sniping abilities allow you to achieve a perfect ratio from a safe distance.

I suppose now it's rather clear to you what MY personal preference is when it comes to weapons. Feel free to write your own comparison of personalities and their corresponding weapons. :P

Your Participation in Clans/Teams

While your personality traits and characteristics may define which weapon is best for yourself as an individual, from a larger standpoint, it’s also important to consider the dynamics and playing styles of your team, if you’re in one. Keep in mind that it’s always important to complement those working with you, and while you may not have the most points in your team at the finish, you will have proved your worth as a really good defender, for example. Also remember that there isn’t necessarily one weapon that’s the best for defense or attack, and if used properly, every weapon has its advantage and complement.

Your Hull and Paint

As touched upon in the last issue (All you need to be a pro - paints), match your weapon and paint. You can defeat another tank equipped with a different weapon than you in a dogfight, as each weapon’s pros and cons will inevitably be shown based on the surrounding landscape. This variability in outcomes based on each weapon’s pros and cons will disappear once you face another tank of identical or similar layout. You will have a massive advantage if you have a paint with protection against your own primary weapon. While the order of choosing a paint should come AFTER you already have picked a weapon, just remember that this parallel is important.

Happy Tanking! :-)

I respect your views on noob isidas - I agree that they are dumb and lazy. Noob isidas really do bug your team, and I hate playing with noob isidas, just like you clearly do. This was a very good overview on the life of a noob isida.

However.

A pro isida is not like that, I hope you realise. A pro isida helps its team kill, heal and capture flags all at the same time. A pro isida does not laze about in his own base healing fat mammoths camping. A pro sacrifices himself for the team, sticking himself in the way of enemies to help team-mates capture flags and healing and attacking in interchange whenever the time is right to do each. You wrote about noob isidas. Not about pro isidas.

It depends on what rank you are of course, doesn't it? Once you get into higher ranks, it's tough to be the best in your team with railgun.

Actually, it is not...I see plenty of Marshalls scoring first place in the battles with this devastating weapon!

As has been said many times before, the fate of your tank merely depends on your skills with that tank.

Fantastic guide and great allusions. But Ricochets act cowardly? :hunf: lol They are mainly the ones who attack. Thunders defend, freeze's as well usually but ricos do the dirty work for the team and often times capture the flag. But it depends on the map, circumstance and the skill of the person of course.

+1. Really?? As rico user as well, i'm sure none of us are happy to be treated as COWARDS. Usually ricos attacks enemy's base with those freezes, thunders and shaft defending, how in the hell that's cowardly?

In the other side, for thunder, OMG, i'm quoting "If you are one who is very straightforward, honest, honorable, and aggressive, Thunder is your weapon!" So ricos are cowards and thunders are the very best of the game only for their weapon? As a reporter, indeed you shouldn't be that partial, even if you play thunder and evidently don't like ricos.

That^

I just find it odd sometimes when ricos attack. Yes they're good at it, but when ricos try to attack head on, don't they undermine their own advantage? Rico wasn't meant to be a substitute for thunder, at least in my opinion.
