To Marshal without buying crystals?

In the chat room a few days ago, a player asked a Marshal if he ever bought crystals with real world money. His answer was "No."

I made up this account to see how difficult a task this would be. So far, I don't see how that can be done. Most of the crystals I have gotten where from Tanki at log in and those I have managed to pick up from drops in game. My rank is Sargeant, I have Smoky M1, Twins M0, Wasp M1, Titan M0 and 6 crystal in the bank.

In battle, I'm easily killed so I become a prime target...I'm a one shot wonder (dead in one shot). My weapons aren't strong enough to kill anyone, unless they don't have any life left. Even if I use consumables, I'm still easy to kill. Because my weapons and tanks are so under rated for my rank, I'm not a very good asset to my team. A team member in game asked me why I never leveled up my weapons and tank. I told him because this Tankman is poor. Then my Team mates started picking on me by turning my tank over. And why not? I was costing them points and by turning my tank over I had to blow myself up, which does not cost the team points. That's when I bought the Titan M0 which isn't much better than the Wasp M1.

In one game, I had 4 kills and 26 deaths... No bonus points there! That has become pretty consistant. So, how can one go from Recruit to Marshal without buying crystals with real world money for upgrades? I know crystals have nothing directly to do with XP, but in order to get XP, you have to blow up other tanks, which I'm finding very difficult to do as I go up in rank. At the beginning, I ranked up fast, because with experience with my other much higher ranked account, I knew how the game was played and already knew strategy.

Once you get the higher ranks, you will need better hulls and tanks, It is you that can either make it trough that without or with buying.

I never bought so far. :)... I think it is possible, but it's very hard.

I'm Marshal without buying. I've seen Marshals(buyers) without any experience, They don't know how to turn the turret. :mellow:

There are a lot of Marshals out there who didn't buy, (obviously not as much as there are buyers, in comparison) and have an epic garage. But for that you'd need to play nearly everyday for like 2 years or more, and win those battles.

It is possible. I'm not a Marshal yet, but I think I'm doing just fine, Viking and Ricochet M2 and Irbis, without buying. (First Lieutenant)

Yes, I still have a long way to go, but buying won't make it that much easier.

really? If you buy you have the most epic tanks in less then a second, you have the decent skill you know from the ''not-buying era''

True, but since my tank is not bad at all and I have a crazy amount of drugs, I can get enough exp. and crystals without buying. So at this point it won't make it that much easier.

If I would have bought crystals from the beginning I think it would. (assuming my skills were still decent)

It all matters within your skill, in fact if you know how to use Smoky and Wasp, then you can collect quite a lot of crystals from guerilla tactics (hit and run).

 

Otherwise, don't fret, because the crystals will fall much faster as you gain higher ranks, but the downside is that Type 2 equipment is much more expensive.

I'm a warrant officer 4, I did not buy any crystals, and I rarely use drugs, but I am able to level up nearly once every 1-2 weeks, some of it is skill and experience, but it is also about choosing the correct battles.

I went a very long time without buying so yes, it is very possible. Also there are other ways of gaining crystals without battling (i.e. friend requests, contests, and a couple others:P )

So far I have made it to colonel with never buying a single crystal, I also joined on 8/8/2012. I am old skool' i.e. tight with my money, its a game if you cant get high rank with no money then why even play for me that's part of the fun and challenge of the game.

If you think you can make it to Marshal I will race you there :D who can do it in the fastest time with never buying? :fire_r:

First, my main goal was to get hornet... getting rid of the blobby titan.

This game is addicting really, once you've bought your upgrade, you already have thoughts for the next one...
