Please make a Map editor.

Nothing fancy, just easy isometricplacement, a test button, and the ability to save, load and copy link.

save should output text-code, load should ask for text-code. the text-code representing the level.

Then if you want to make a game with it, it must be private, to prevent people flooding with custom levels

Most of tanki looks like it was done in tile format anyway so I don't see this being a difficult task.

 

For anyone that likes to read:

 

 

The creator wil work like this:

1) choose width and depth of the stage

It creates a semi transparent color to represent the bottom of the world.

2) Clicking on a terrain type chooses it, clicking again rotates it.

3) Clicking on the stage will place that terrain ontop of it.

- a floating block can be done by placing a block of air.

4) Click save (assuming all needed block are placed like spawns)

6) copy the code given. (save if you want to keep it)

7) open up tanki -> create -> private

8) click load

9) paste code given

10) start

11) enjoy

the map created will need to have certain rules like flags cannot be place too close to each other, and there must be at least 2 spawns stuff like that. Also this needs to be checked when the code is loaded (code sent to each player- generated on the client machines)

Exactly what you are asking for currently exists. The only difference is that you cannot upload maps you make into real tanki - but you can upload it into TanksTestingTool, which is almost as good. The program is called "Alternativa Editor". I don't know whether it's open source though. Maybe a map maker could enlighten you on that.

The program Alternative Editor is open source. I also have the program installed on my computer. You can ask a map maker for its download. You can also ask cheese.. he doesn't like people asking for that though.

As skitee and others have said, there is alternativa editor, in which you can make maps(with the actual tanki props), and these maps can be used in tanki, and TTT(tankstestingtool).

the program is free, you can download it here.

whoever, with the new game mode(CP) the old alternativa editor is outdated, and to make maps with CP you need the new version, which is currently only availble for mapmakers(I think).

But my idea is to have a super stripped down editor (fake 3d)

Then copy paste code.

This should be a tool that takes under a minute to learn, 5 minutes to create a a basic map, and can be played with friends within 20 seconds.

Require no tools that needs downloading and run, all done in the browser.

After all, tanki is a browser based multi player game.

 

And when you make a map in the already existing editor you cannot play a proper game with your freinds.

It's russian so pretty useless to me.

I downloaded it... but deleted it in a matter of seconds because I couldn't understand the text.

if there are loads of ????'s then press the one which normally would say "continue/yes", and it should work fine.

This should be a tool that takes under a minute to learn, 5 minutes to create a a basic map, and can be played with friends within 20 seconds.

Require no tools that needs downloading and run, all done in the browser.

After all, tanki is a browser based multi player game.

 

And when you make a map in the already existing editor you cannot play a proper game with your freinds.

Why do you another editor? alternativa editor works perfectly fine, and you can create a basic map in 5 minutes(it just wont be that good).

it would be hugely impractical to have everyone making maps to play.

Huh? sorry didn't understand that.

if im correct, when you run the program it comes up with a install dialog, but instead of the continue/yes-back/cancel there are just "????" correct?

if so, press the button which would normally say "yes"-"continue".

if it doenst have that, then run the .exe called "Alternativa Editor", and it should load.

The amount of server space required with everyone adding extra maps is too big, in my opinion.

Now I can finally run the editor without fooling around. :)

it won't, for a private battle it will only be roughly 18kb. (the size of 18 smileys)

map data is very small because it is done in blocks (like minecraft, not saying it should be minecraft)

then genrated on the clients computer.

this is very different to maps already on the server, that they have all the polygons saved and sent over (i assume)

also when a game ends, it is automatcially destroyed anyway, so the map will no longer exist on the server.

it is temporerily on the server while the game is in play.

 

Im not saying we should have a whole section on tanki where maps would be uploaded (maby a forum?)

and stored causing mass ammounts of maps. :P

 

why does everyone assume flood of maps, honestly how many private battles do you play every day with tanki players you don't know ?

There is a forum whare maps are uploaded, its called the mapmaking forum, its private, and if you are accepted you can submit maps to be used in the game, ONLY mapmakers can get maps into the game.

There is a forum whare maps are uploaded, its called the mapmaking forum, its private, and if you are accepted you can submit maps to be used in the game, ONLY mapmakers can get maps into the game.

notice the word private? as in only people accepted? this is what i despise. make it open and allow anyone to show their map ideas.

the game will not be flooded with custom maps, thats the best part. only PRIVATE battles will have custom maps meaning you can play with freinds and people you invite. when you look at games in list you will only see the quality maps made by the mapmakers.

the whole point of an idea guys is to CHANGE. not to point at me and say its just not so.

There is nothing wrong with people making their own maps.

Yes, you have to be accepted, why should everyone and anyone be making maps? its impractical and doesnt have much point.

Incorrect. If that feature was implemented, the game would be flooded, no doubt about it, even if they are private, the it will start out being flooded with loads of private games, then people will realise they cant play with others in there custom maps, and the feature will then be forgotten, and almost never used.

The Idea might be to change, but it wont. The way tanki works is that it only maps from the mapmkers, and if you want your idea to even be considered then you need to post it on http://feedback.tankionline.com

The way tanki is arranged, for a map to be played it HAS to be stored on permanent server space. 100s of maps a day = lots of server space used = lots of lag.
