The element of surprise is a tactic that is used very often when capturing flags or sneaking behind the enemy, this would ruin it and games would be more drawish and boring

I wouldn't mind having a mini map, so you can find your way more easily if you're not familiar with the map. But one without seeing where the enemy is located, for the very reason mchen gave.

However, it would block a part of your screen, which of course affects your game.

I would love to have a "close vicinity" radar that would indicate gold boxes. I hate having someone pick up the ones I was unable to notice right behind me. <_<

This is a good idea; maybe they allow you to see your team aswell? (if DM and CTF)
