The Newspaper Team: What we want, What do you want?

Here in the reporting team, our aim is to provide you, the readers, with as high a quality newspaper every month as we can manage. Whether we manage to achieve that is debatable, but, success rate nonetheless, that is what we aim to do each issue. How do we do this, what do we want to do in the future, and what do you want in the Newspaper?

The Newspaper was originally started towards the beginning of last year, headed up by Les Alterman. At that point, the only reporters were Tommy60, cablaz, skitee and conanthedestroyer. Our first issues contained just us four, with Les at designer, before chriswu and Lhamster joined the team. Soon after, Les retired to focus on the Russian newspaper, and chriswu took over as designer. Cablaz resigned soon after, but Ranger7 was hired to replace him, with ShadowVisions, hogree and already.dead joining the team just recently. Chriswu has recently resigned and in his place is FOG-LIGHT. So that's a brief summary of the newspaper, and in that time, we've been able to produce 8 issues including over 100 articles, ranging from stories and spoof fiction to guides and informative articles about the origination of aspects of the game that are so popular.

We bring out a new issue around the first week of every month, with, as you all know, a whole range of different articles. And whilst that is currently the only medium by which we currently produce material for the community, some of the blogs on the Tanki Blog have been written by us as well. But the newspaper is our focus right now. It is the only medium by which we produce work for you, the community, to enjoy, and it is the pinnacle of our work. We realise that it is not very “newspaper-ish” and tends to be more like what you would read in a magazine, but it is very hard to write analysis and up-to-date news when deadlines for articles come about a week before publication and we can only produce one issue every month.

The topics which we tend to produce our articles ordinarily are categorized in to either guides, information, contests, or stories. This is because the reporters do what we feel like is interesting and/or we want to do and we write it. There is no preset plan before each issue whereby we must fit a certain criteria for each type of article – each reporter works according to their own discretion, and it so happens that the reporters which exist currently prefer to write in those categories, rather than opinion, or reviews, or analysis.

However, we, as a reporting team, are open to ideas, criticism, and so forth. If you have an idea for a reasonable subject for a topic, we the reporters, are more than willing to listen and to consider putting such ideas into practise – although whether we do so is a further question. But if there is something burning on your mind which you would like to see addressed, informed about, or just talked about, then feel free to contact your favourite reporter to ask them to write about it for you!

And more generally, we would love to see your ideas for the improvement of the newspaper. Soon we will be reaching our tenth issue, which will be a great achievement for us. Up till now, we have yet to be able to achieve a “themed issue” (although we did attempt to do so for Christmas/New Year, which was impossible) or done anything out of the ordinary with our newspaper. Would you like something like that to happen – potentially a themed issue, with stories about, say, Tanks in the summer, or do you enjoy the newspaper as it is? Do you know of anyone who can help out in the newspaper? We are stretched to the peaks of our ability to produce multiple high-quality articles each month and we would love it if high-quality writers would join us.

To re-iterate: as a newspaper team, we are committed to trying to give you, the readers, as much enjoyment from our newspaper as is possible, and right now we try to do that through our monthly issues. In the future, however, we do not know where we will be. We would love to improve the quality of our content, but to do so we need your feedback. What is your opinion on the newspaper? What would be your recommendations for improvements in the future?

Then you would be wrong as AFAIK they only reached 28 issues before they switched to their current blog format.

Like I said, we've always wanted to do that. The only probably is that our access to the blog, where we intended to post interviews, was rescinded just as we restarted interviews. We do have one or two stored up. :3 So ya. :( Hopefully the newspaper team will re-start, and there is one coming up next issue, maybe a couple.

I would like to see a definitive guide for each weapon, in detail. Yes, I know in the past there have been the occasional one. But it would be good to see an offical guide and maybe with these, they could make a section with just weapons guides.
