Need help on how to make custom paints

I was referred to

but it hasn't solved all my noobish problems.

When I open up the "Config" file with word as it says to input my own paint, instead of text all I see are pink boxes saying "colormap" and "texture" etc. I am unable to put the "<colormap file="custom_textures\YOURPAINTNAME.jpg"/>" line in.

What ever you called you paint add it like this, so if i called it " random paint ", i would do this

<colormap file="custom_textures\random paint.jpg"/>

and put it at the bottom of the like this

[Bopokippo 1]

I understand but when I open the config.xml with word it literally just shows a bunch of pink boxes running down like this.

Open it with notepad. It should look normal then.
