The pump action shotgun returns with a powerful vengeance. In this guide I will talk about how to properly use the R870 and what shotgun shells might be right for you.

Damage: High

Rate of fire: Low (not including rapid fire glitch)

Range: Moderate/Low

Accuracy: Moderate/Low

Mobility: high

Handling: Low

Unlike other shotguns, the R870 is the most mobile and the best range. At medium range, it can take down anyone with one shot and good aim. There isn't much of an option for attachments that will not alter the mobility, which is the weapon's key feature. There is however, multiple shells that do effect the accuracy of the weapon. Because of their variety, some might suit some players better than others. Here is a summary.

Attachments

Default

- The best choice is no choice. Since all other shells exchange one stat for another, experienced or even new players might find this more useful.

Bird bomb shell

- Similar stats to default but with slight range increase and accuracy. I emphasize slight.

Slug rounds

- Removing the spread, meaning your crosshairs will be as tight as they can be. However for a shotgun, a tight crosshairs will make targets harder to hit. Only the most experienced will reap the fruits of these shells.

Buckshot rounds

- Recommended for new players. It's larger crosshairs makes it easier to hit players. You still keep that one hit kill potential, but your range will be decreased from short/medium to short.

The general rule of shotguns apply to the R870. However, making a return from MC3, the rapid fire glitch is back. If you can utilize the glitch, you can get rid of the pump pump action and make the R870 into a fully automatic weapon. However (I'm getting tired of saying that word) recoil will be noticeable and reloads will become frequent. Most maps have close quarters areas but some less than others. Here is a run down of recommended maps.

Favorable maps

Congress

- This maps speaks for itself. The close quarter nature of this makes it place heaven for the R870.

Blockbuster

- This short/medium map is easy to find opponents. I got nothing else.

Landfall

- Despite being a rather large map, it offers lots of shot range areas when indoors.

Semi-favorable maps

Legion

- With a good ratio of short to long range areas. The short range areas have multiple flanking routes if you want to avoid running out in the open.

Paradise

- Like legion, it offers lots of flanking routes with short range areas, however (there I go again) it might not be the best option.

Not recommendable maps

Alert

- Getting close enough to someone will leave you exposed to everyone else.

Dog days

- Quite literally the only map with little close quarters areas. This map is more for medium to long range combat.

Overtime

- Though it has it share of close quarters areas, most of the fire fights are medium to long range

It goes without saying that gameloft has put some thought into the shotguns, giving them an advantage that only they can provide. Because the R870 is a potent shotgun, there are some factors to consider. Most class selections only have 1-2 perks that can actually benefit the R870 but here are some recommendable options. As always, you are welcome to use your own preference.

Loadouts

Athleticism and grenade belt is my recommendation for the R870. Athleticism will make even more mobile and with the combination of stun grenades and grenade belt will have you clearing rooms like a pro. A launcher of your choice for a secondary, should you need something that can hit long range targets.

Sensor and tactical mask makes a great pair. With the sensor, you can survey close quarter areas will preparing to ambush enemies. Tactical mask will remove the temporary stun after falling from a high platform, giving you that extra mobility. Duty calls for that even more mobility and explosive expert to ensure that your grenades hit someone.

Pro tips and tricks

- USE THAT MOBILITY! Do not run toward players, run around them, keep them guessing because you will be faster than them.

-Just because you are fast, doesn't mean you should be all the time. Slow down, do not sprint corners and keep your gun ready on hot spot areas.

-Do not engage multiple enemies at once, you will be outgunned.

-Shooting players in the back is stronger than shooting in the front.

-Should your first shot miss or not kill your opponent, flank them from another angle. Shooting at them again will not have the same results 100% of the time.

-Do not run towards your opponent, you will be surprised how many times I have seen shotgunnners do that.

Conclusion

+ Mobility

+ One hit kill potential

- Pump action

- Range

No other boomstick will give you a blow as big as the R870. So make your enemies say hello, to your little friend. Next time I will go over the socars, schoc, and eventually the ASIX rifle.
