[Issue 12] [Guide] Heavy Tanks - How to Choose, How to Use

Previously, I wrote an article on medium tanks. Now it's heavy tanks' turn. I'll be reviewing Dictator, Titan, and Mammoth. I'll give you guys some nice tips, and an overall comparison of the three. So, I hope you enjoy it!

Dictator

Many tankmen used to have Dictator, and in fact it used to be the best tank that could be bought in Tanki. However, newer tanks like Viking and Mammoth were released, and Dictator swiftly lost its popularity among many tankmen. Though it still was used for clan wars, and other such special occasions, it was not normally used in battle. The rebalance changed all that though, and now Dictator is one of the many tanks that are used in battle. It is a very strong tank, and its stats are incredible. However, many argue that its shape is a huge problem. Why would the shape of the tank be a problem? There are several reasons. Since Dictator is the tallest tank available, it is a much bigger target - which makes it a lot easier to hit. Also, the height can be a problem when you are trying to shoot down from steep ledges. Another downside for Dictator is the speed. Attacking with Dictator is tough, especially since you are big, and not fast enough to take flags effectively.

Dictator is good at getting to the enemy base, and can take out many defenders, but after that it is useless except as a distraction. When you are using Dictator on the defense, however, you come across another problem - your speed. The defense usually does not make use of speed, and it is almost like wasting the extra crystals spent on the increased speed. Dictator is best used as a mid-fielder. Strong, bulky, and speedy enough to get to good spots in the middle of the field, Dictator can be very effective in that position. However, many of its critics still argue that its size is far to big to be an effective tank. Still - it does have good stats, and for many tankmen, that is reason enough to use it.

Mammoth

Mammoth is truly a unique tank. As soon as it was released, it became the king of supplies matches, and literally blew all the other tanks away when it came to drug wars. After the rebalance, it retained this lofty position, and though many of the other tanks were changed greatly by the rebalance, Mammoth was one of the few tanks that more or less stayed the same. It is highly effective with long ranged weapons like Thunder, or perhaps Shaft. Since both of those weapons rarely are used to attack, Mammoth's low speed does not affect their effectiveness. Indeed, Mammoth can be deadly with these weapons equipped. Mammoth can especially dominate TDM and DM game-modes, since in both game-modes the destruction of enemy tanks is the main goal.

Due to its great health, Mammoth can stay alive long enough to knock out more than just one tank, and since it does have great amounts of health, it is hard for the enemy to destroy. Still, in supplies battles Mammoth can be used effectively as an offensive tank, and this is what makes Mammoth very unique. Though in NS battles it may be confined to the positions of defense or mid-field, in supplies battles it can do either. One important thing to remember when using Mammoth - you can choose your job, so choose wisely. If you don't like to play defense, don't use Mammoth in No Supplies Battles. If you don't like to play offense, you can simply stay near your team's base. Ultimately, Mammoth is a good choice for tankmen who can use supplies often, or at least are patient enough to play on defense for long periods of time. If either of these qualities fit you, then Mammoth will definitely be the best choice.

Titan

Titan, though it looks ugly, can be very dangerous. Titan's element is definitely big map defense. Because of the size of some maps, many heavy tankers feel the need for more speed than Mammoth can offer. In this case, Titan fits the bill. Fitted with long-range weapons, Titan can be an awesome defending tank. In supplies battles, however, it is not quite as good as Mammoth. Of course, this is due to the fact that it has slightly less health than Mammoth. Still, some lower-ranked tankmen use it since at M2 it is more useful than M2 Mammoth.

An important thing to remember though, is that Titan has a lot of disadvantages and problems that can make it hard to use. Some of these problems include looks, health, and price. If any of these problems you have serious trouble dealing with, it might be a good idea to look for another tank to buy instead of Titan. If you like its gameplay, and don't have a problem with some of the things mentioned above, then maybe it would be a good idea to get it.

Comparing these tanks is a bit hard. Though all three of them have great aspects, and they all have many great features, they also have some problems. Instead of just inspecting each tank's statistics, I'm going to also review in brief how these tanks preform in the field through personal experience and through the experience of other tankmen who have played them. Dictator has always been a subject for controversy, and probably always will be. Due to it's exceptionally bulky shape, it is one of the biggest tanks available for purchase. Though definitely not the most healthy, it still packs quite a punch, and retains more speed than Mammoth and Titan. Many argue that Dictator is superior to Titan, due to the fact that Titan only has 100 more HP, while Dictator has nearly 2 more MPS than Titan. Really though, it is a matter of style. If you are ok with being the most noticeable tank on your team, you will do fine with Dictator.

Still, many prefer the unobtrusive Titan to the grand size of Titan. When it comes to Mammoth, though, we have a whole new level of HP. With nearly 50 more HP than Titan, Mammoth is the most healthy tank that can possibly be bought. It only has one drawback when compared to Titan - it has .6 MPS less than Titan. Really we have a situation where you have to give some speed for more health. What little speed you do give, though, is minimal. Many tankmen agree that .6 MPS is not worth 50 HP. While .6 MPS will probably not make the difference between getting out of the enemy base alive and not getting out of it alive, 50 HP can add one more second that is necessary for a Freeze to kill you. All in all, many agree that Mammoth is superior to Titan - not only in looks, but also in actual statistics. Dictator is practically on the same level as Mammoth when it comes to statistics, but when you are talking about shape and size, Mammoth has a slight advantage. Still, the main thing to look for when you are deciding which of these tanks to get is your style. Reading ShadowVisions' articles on purchasing equipment will definitely help you to decide.

Conclusion

I hope you have enjoyed this article. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me either by PM, or by posting on this topic. I will try to assist you in any way I can. Good luck in the game!

Dictator is a heavy tank?

Mammoth superior,Titan inferior B) Dictator.....a bit of both :P

No, rebalance turned this all around. Titan is significantly faster than mammy yet having a little less hp, same with wasp/hornet.
