Closing Topics Prematurely Enfuriate Tanki Customers - Stop It!

 Share

Recommended Posts

I used to check in daily and read the forum but I got so disillusioned with the place I had to quit. Now I might view every so many weeks.

One of the main reasons for this was this practice of prematurely closing threads created by people who genuinely want to take part and engage others in the Tanki Online community, to discuss and thrash-out ideas they have that may or may not, improve game enjoyment. Now what tends to happen when someone submits an idea for discussion is they are told to submit there idea to Feedback and thread is closed.

Here is a recent example, http://en.tankiforum...howtopic=174984

Posted 30 May 2013 - 08:29

I've had many different ideas for Tanki, but this is my most favorite, so I'm posting this here becouse I want a real good discussion and opinions about this

and by 21:06 it was CLOSED.

While I understand that the Feedback site has to the capacity to carry discussion, with all due respect, everyone (minus a few) believe the feedback site to be dead and even if, now and then, ideas do get read and acted upon, very few players visit with enough frequency with the intention of discussing submitted ideas. Meanwhile, the proponent certainly isn't going to wait for a month of Sundays for reaction so they'll figure, Why Bother!

The customer above must have spent some time composing his post only for it to be shot down in flames. This after they specifically requested some "real good discussion", probably in order to hone and better their thought before submission to feedback. All this proves that mods here still have some learning to do and have to stop acting like overzealous dictators pressing the big red Close Topic button on their keyboard before the day is out.

I did complain to Semyon about this and I was assured that the forum is for "us" and we shouldn't be afraid to make our feelings known, voicing our criticisms of Tanki and it's current practices.

Rant over. Enjoy your Sunday. Regards to all.

I agree with this completely! It's extremely irritating that BarbaFenner simply closes a topic because he thinks it's been answered, regardeless whether someone else has something else to add or ask.

The word forum comes from latin:

forum (genitive forī); n, second declension

  1. market-/public place, forum

In english:

forum (plural forums or fora)

  1. A place for discussion.

  2. A gathering for the purpose of discussion.

  3. A form of discussion involving a panel of presenters and often participation by members of the audience.

  4. (Internet) An Internet message board where users can post messages regarding one or more topics of discussion.

A forum is made for discussion.

Now watch this get closed because it's "pointless".

Hi, I would hope that it stays open long enough for players to contribute and expect it to be closed after a reasonable period of inactivity, pointless or not. If someone posts something that they think is meaningful then courtesy and respect should be the order of the day.

Sometimes, players just want to chat to other players and discuss elements of the game or rant about other aspects of tanki and the wider community. Not everything has to be answered and closed straight away and a moderators involvement in it, although welcome, is not required or even desired in many cases.

Agreed, a thread should only be closed if it's obviously spam, or if a flame war erupts. However should one begin it's a moderator's job to try and stop it, and should it continue then he should close the thread. It works that way in any decent forum.

I agree with OP. it's hard to start some conversation here since most of the new topics last for 3 hours and is locked after 2 posts.

I agree, however this too will be closed (no surprise --.--). I did enjoy reading this, it's all true and, that's why the General section is dying. Everyone then moved to Off-Topic, but the new rules were introduced and now some things we'd love to discuss that aren't to do with Tanki are not allowed.

That's it in a nutshell. There's no discussion in the general discussion forum.

The reason idea topics are closed is to avoid this entire section being flooded with these topics, especially when most of the ideas have been suggested many times before. Semyon is working on feedback, so hopefully soon it won't appear to be dead. Personally, I think an 'Ideas' topic sticky'd the forum to discuss things would be great, but at the moment, it has to go on feedback and the forum mods must follow the staff guidelines they have been given. They don't get paid more for closing more topics. Some topics are also closed to prevent certain people from trolling in them too. I'll see what I can do about that topic though. Also, if you check the russian forum, you'll see that they are even stricter than here.

You need to understand that Mods don't close topics because "They thought that...", we close them because they needed to be closed. If a player ask a question and receive an answer, then the topic can be closed, but if that player need any other help the topic will stay open till all the player's issues are resolved. We do that everytime, with every topic. "Someone else has something to add" has no meaning, since if a player ask a question and get an answer there are no reasons to add other things just to increase your post count, as many users do.

I agree with what you said here, but I'm sure that you will understand that we can't let topics die opened since then gravediggers will come and bump a whole section (like it happened 2 days ago where 3 section were completely gravedigged)-

Also, we always leave opened topics that might develop a great discussion between players, we close those topics that won't develop anything but flame/troll wars or flood.

Well, what you said is quite completely correct. We do a constant monitoring of every section and we do all what we can do check every topic, but we can't stay behind every players' post, so when we see a topic made in a way that it will just cause spam/flood or such we just close it.

Remember, everyone, when we do our work we follow certain guidelines and Rules that we must not break, as we all follow Forum and Game Rules aswell. We can't close all what we want, we are obliged to close all what is not positive and not related to the Community.

Sadly, what Noodles says is true. If the mods know what they're doing, then tell me this. What is the GENERAL section ment for if no one can just have a usual chat??? You close every thread that doesn't have a point, but guess what? When people talk to each other, usually, all they want to do is talk to each other, not spam stuff, yet, you say it's spam, and close it anyways! Please tell what you think the General section is supposed to have if you think otherwise.

Why not make an idea section, which devs will check, instead of making another site

Didn't I see you in battle today?

On topic: the mods are here to stop the useless trolling and ranting.

That makes sense. Answer to question, topic closed (as long as the answer is the right one). But what about the case of the player who composed a lengthy piece with, "I'm posting this here becouse I want a real good discussion and opinions about this", in the opening line? If that was me having my topic closed in the way that is was (and I've been there), I would be left deflated and infuriated at the same time. It's like you're not listening. There is hardly any point in taking part if we're not listened to. I know you have rules to adhere to but just sometimes, threads sometimes need a little space for ideas to formulate and blossom which might benefit everyone in the long run. This simply isn't allowed to happen.

By the sound of other voices in this topic, I reckon I'm not alone with these feelings. Maybe a sea change is order with regard to the forum and its rules.

No hard feelings mods. You're appreciated even if that doesn't always come across.

Personally, I've never understood why topics with ideas are closed. I know the devs will only see the ideas on Feedback, but couldn't the topics remain open to discuss? At least pin an 'Ideas' discussion topic or something...
