[Guide] Railgun

 Share

Recommended Posts

Railgun is my all-time favorite weapon.

I just wanted to share some tips I have learned

1.Description

Railgun has infinate range, high damage, warm up, and slow reloading.

Railgun's has very high velocity which increases over distance, meaning

It's damage increases at long range. Railgun is very effective at picking

off light hulls such as wasp and hornet. If the M levels are equal, rail

destroys an unprotected wasp with one shot. The damage rail does

also increases when fired from above the target.

2.Pro's

Railgun's average shot deals more damage than that of any other turret.

Railgun has a powerful recoil that is good for parkour.

Cheap M3 upgrade

3.Cons

Very long reloading time

1 1/2 sec warmup

Slow turning speed

4.Hulls

CTF Dictator, Hornet, Wasp

TDM Dictator, Hornet, Viking, Titan

DM Dictator, Viking, Titan

This only took about 15-20 min so sorry it's not very good :(

The recoil is more a Con than a Pro.

The warmup, as you say, is much more of a Pro to help counter other railguns or firing under cover of a wall.

Viking and Rail is excelent for CTF to help cover the flag and to cover mid-ground.

Railgun itself isn't very useful in TDM and not advised at all in DM.

Damage does NOT increase within range or above target. It's just the same,

Also wrong. Damage isn't the same. It's random.

Not bad for a first guide, could do with a bit more structure and better sentencing and more details to do with specifics on how to use it.

Good job though! :D

Actually, I've observed that all the time my railgun does less damage up close than at a range of 30-60 meters

M3 Rail is not cheap -_-

Railgun is medium reloading .

You must be joking, viking + rail is awesome in ctf (especially in silence).

*facepalm* what I meant was damage does not increase by range or by above target. -_-

I'd add the "visible signature" of the Railgun as a Con - it limits the use of the Railgun for sniper attacks, compared to say Shaft or Smokey, as once you have fired, everyone knows your position.

============

In terms of overall Strategies for the Railgun "fire and move" is the key (due to the long recharge time and high visual signature) especially as you cannot rely on a "one shot kill"; this makes the Hornet+Railgun pairing useful as you can fire, maneuver rapidly into cover/concealment and then fire again, ideally from a different position.

=====

You should aim to attack from the flank or rear, as this allows you a good chance of being under cover before the enemy has rotated to your position - for example fire from one corner of a building. and then immediately circle behind the building to the other corner for the second shot.

===============

The Railgun is also good for enfilade and defilade fire positions, as these increase the chance for multiple hits and multiple shots on target; on light hulls the Railgun can be very effective in this way when used to infiltrate behind an enemy position as this nullifies the impact of the visual signature.

============

It is important to get comfortable with the firing delay, but this can allow the luxury of "fire, then aim" - pressing fire while in concealment and then "popping out" to aim in one movement. Use of "scouting" round corners with the turret and the page-up/down buttons to "look over" obstacles can make this very effective as a tactic, allowing you to get multiple shots on a mid-to-far range target without loss.

==========

Above all else, accuracy is the key, with the first shot; probability of survival if the first shot misses is low with most light/medium hulls against even a moderately skilled opponent.

I haven't noticed any difference with distances. If what you say is actually true, it makes no sence because the shot should lose a lot of energy for reality standards. The Railgun, though loses 0 firing power with distance as far as I'm know. I supose you're using Rail M2 so the game will randomy choose a number between 92 and 140 that will give the damage. If you are unlucky enough, you won't be able to destroy a M2 Mamooth (without protective paint) with 3 shots, if all 3 hits were below 99 (or with some other variations like 92, 92, 115 for example)

*facepalm* what I meant was damage does not increase by range or by above target. -_-

Be more clear next time then
