CTF - Holding on to the flag timer

Hiya,

I'll post my idea to feedback for the devs but before I do, anyone here want a say on what I write?

 

I was just playing in a Silence II CTF (20 flags) battle and it took a while but our (blue) side managed to break down the reds and we got to 6-0 up. With the battle fund at 3.5K, all but a couple of reds were left. At this point, one player on my side decided to capture the flag and hold on to it for 20 minutes. I just wanted to collect my share of the spoils and get on with my evening. This guy, SOBR009, was actually waiting for high-ranking friends to show up and when they did, he joined the other side. We were pigs to the slaughter :angry: .

 

So, I'm going submit an idea to have a timer for when players get the flag.

If it held on to by the same player for X seconds then it automatically gets returned.

Any ideas on what X should be? 120 maybe?

Another aspect would need to be considered in the event the player drops it, picks it up, drops it, picks it up, to defeat the timer.

How about if the flag is dropped more than once by the same player then it gets returned?

 

 

All suggestions welcome! :)

 

ps, Would I get any satisfaction if I posted the video to complaints or would it be considered sour grapes? Did SOBR009 break any rules?

Umm... That won;t help bcuz if other team has your flag and u have theres you can be stuck in a stalemate until the first team that got the falg has to have it returned...

Good thinking. Maybe in that case, timers are not active.

You've got to alter it for each level; I'm remotely sure it takes around 2 minutes to take down the defense and get the flag in Dusseldorf.

120 seconds = 2 minutes

I use mammoth and it is pretty slow

 

That's true. I didn't consider that either! 300 seconds then for our bulky friends!

5 minutes is more than reasonable and would surely help to minimise abuses and game spoiling.

Hmmmm a good idea but also a bad one. What if u got stuck and by the time you have self destructed the flag has been reterned!

Can you not read? He already said he wants some opinions first.

Thanks. Maybe the timer could be displayed counting down. It would add an extra dimension to the excitement if you're genuinely fighting your way back to capture the flag.

A limit would be great, and, as people said above, 5 mins would be great. However, this limit should show on the screen of the player who's holding the flag; they should also be able to pick it up within a minute as well. The thing about this is that it's often good tactics in a clan war to hold the flag in a parkour position if your team has the lead - the opposing team is unlikely to return the flag and so your lead will stick. I suppose that that can just be gotten around then.

"EDIT" + what that player did in your story is called, "being a mult" call a moderator next time.

Consider this:There's a huge 20 vs 20 Dusseldorf battle, and a hornet M3 overcomes tough odds and manages to get a flag back to his base. At the same time however, an enemy hornet barely steals the other flag just in time and gets back to his/her base, resulting in a long stalemate. It would be frustrating to hand off flags every 2 minutes for both sides, and when that attacking freeze comes, you know it would be annoying to see that flag drop right in front of him/her and watch it be returned.
