CTF - Holding on to the flag timer

 Share

Recommended Posts

Consider this:There's a huge 20 vs 20 Dusseldorf battle, and a hornet M3 overcomes tough odds and manages to get a flag back to his base. At the same time however, an enemy hornet barely steals the other flag just in time and gets back to his/her base, resulting in a long stalemate. It would be frustrating to hand off flags every 2 minutes for both sides, and when that attacking freeze comes, you know it would be annoying to see that flag drop right in front of him/her and watch it be returned.

Timers would be inactive if both flags are taken.

The length of the timer should be different for different maps for example: 5 mins for ping-pong map would be too much even with mammoth but for Dusseldorf it can be a little less with mammoth especially if the opponents are blocking him/her or s/he gets frozen. Also, the timer should be switched off if both teams have each other's flags.

Great idea, Mr. Noodleness

Hiya,

I'll post my idea to feedback for the devs but before I do, anyone here want a say on what I write?

I was just playing in a Silence II CTF (20 flags) battle and it took a while but our (blue) side managed to break down the reds and we got to 6-0 up. With the battle fund at 3.5K, all but a couple of reds were left. At this point, one player on my side decided to capture the flag and hold on to it for 20 minutes. I just wanted to collect my share of the spoils and get on with my evening. This guy, SOBR009, was actually waiting for high-ranking friends to show up..... edit..........

Why create more problems with a complicated solution?

Keep it simple.

1. Blue team can force the flag holder to self destruct by pushing the tank over a cliff etc. If in corner etc use next solution.

2. Blue tanks go out on long range recci, leaving defenceless unprotected flag holder to be killed by remaining reds.

3. As suggested by a previous post above - go the rule break route.

Keep it simple

Its a good idea but you could have it so the timer was only on if one team had the flag and if the other team took their flag the timer would turn off automatically.

Reply to above post and my simple solutions.

Watched the vid lol.

u had great chance for solution 1 in the 1st few minutes - instead blue ran around testing guns.

Then 3.0 minute ish go for solution 2. Instead you shoot up reds preventing solution 2. Was it worth a few extra xp.

New Solution 4. Happened one battle. I had the final flag and went tank about in celerbration after a hard battle, and delayed capping.

Lost the flag - a take over attack. Drugies all over us - we surrounded the Isidas on our flag base and held on for a huge crystal pot at the end. Grugies all gone bed. :D

Keep it simple. No more rules. :)

If you look more closely then you should notice that the person with the flag is an M3 Mammoth and it is not easy or maybe not even possible to push a mammoth M3 off the map. The twins mammy person tried to do that but failed and there was no way that Mr. Noodleness's Viking would be able to push that guy off(See how easily the Mammoth was pushing his Viking ahead after it had jumped over the ramp). Also, if you didn't notice, there was an isida of the opposite team standing right in front of that sabotager and could have killed that person easily as Mr. Noodleness and his teammates weren't killing that isida.

As for the second solution: well, it wasn't possible because the red team players weren't killing the person with the flag(If you didn't notice that).

We were trying to force him off the edge for over 10 minutes before I had enough and started recording - no joy. Recording is something I do when I've committed a lot of time and effort into something only for someone to spoil it. My fps go down when fraps is turned on.

Then 3.0 minute ish go for solution 2. Instead you shoot up reds preventing solution 2. Was it worth a few extra xp.

It was then my suspicions were about to be realised. I figured out what was about to happen. Plus no reds were interested in your "solution 2"

It's clear that this was an abuse that was easy to carry out. Mammoths aren't pushed around because it is they who do the pushing in this game. A timer would is a good idea not just to minimise these abuses but also to add an extra dimension to the CTF battles. Not only have you got to beat your enemies, you have to beat the clock too, (5 mins) which is more than enough for any hull in any map.

I will submit this idea to feedback later on today. Thank you to those who have helped me craft it. Much appreciated. :)

edit: submitted to Battles > Game Mode but it's ОЖИДАЕТ ПРОВЕРКИ (waiting for checks).

complain about the traitor player /vote (playername), and team kick him

This was done. Nothing happened with the /vote and it looked like I was the only one using team kick. Traitor was right!

I saw your video. How come the Isida/Mammoth in white didn't kill the Flag-Holder? He was on the other team.

Hey Bayern, I can't prove it but I think they were in on it. Why position yourself between the flag and the edge?

It's in negative votes? You mean on the feedback site?

yeah.

Here's another complaint where players abuse the spirit in which this game is meant to be played. The game is called CTF. Not GAHTF.

Exactly what Skitee mentioned on page2.

8KLkEKe.jpg

*Grab And Hold The Flag

And before the haters say it, yeah, I know the onus is on the reds to kill the flag-holding, blue shaft but as I said, CTF, Not GAHTF.

So a checkbox option when creating battles to opt-out of timers might be good.
