Looking for a level designer - results

Dear players! We are happy to announce the results of Looking for a Level Designer contest!
We received more than 500 maps from players of all three communities.

Here are the winners:

1 place - Profnaz and his map called "Future"
 

 
2 place - John_Makklaud with "Abandoned Factory"
 

 
3 place - "Industrial" made by tank789
 


As for English and German players, we've received two maps which show that their makers faced the challenge and made something really interesting.

So, the best map of English Community is "Labyrinth" made by 6Warlock9. The map looks simple at first glance. However, the gameplay experience it provides is exciting and intense. A perfect map for short-range weapons.


Another favorite is a map made by B_MW from German Community.

If you sent us a map (or even several ones) but your name isn't mentioned here, don't get disappointed. You faced a truly difficult contest and made what you could. That's what really matters!


Things you need for map-making

• prop library and TanksTestingTool map viewer
• AlternativaEditor (map editor)
• Map editor guide
• Overview of third prop library

Terms of the contest:
1. Only maps that were sent to mapmaker@tankionline.com can take part in the contest

• email subject: "Map Maker Contest"
• please write your contact information in the letter (nickname in the game, telephone number, skype)
• the following things should be attached to the letter
  • screenshots of the map (view from above + several other shots)
  • xml-file of the map
  • short description of map's features in English
• if something you need isn't in the prop library please tell us about it in the letter and send sketches of it

2. We are waiting for your maps till 05:00 (UTC+0) on July 8 2013
3. Results of the contest will be announced on July 12 2013
4. Maps will be judged by a team of developers

5. According to item 4 of the section "Intellectual property" of the End User License Agreement the Company may make any use it deems fit of the Material(s) which User has placed in the Game or has sent to the Administration (including for participating in a competition) and that from the moment of placement (publication) or sending by Users of these Material(s) in the Game the Company shall receive all intellectual rights to use these Material(s) by any ways in any country of the world, without specifying User and without any royalty or other compensation.

Best maps will have a chance to appear in the game, their authors will get prizes and fame.
And the main thing — we'll sign contracts with authors of the most interesting maps and will work with them on a permanent basis.

Just read the guides, download necessary software and try making a map

It depends on the quality of maps being sent to us. If there are several interesting maps, there will be several winners.

Very Very interesting idea for a contest, if this came a months earlier, i would gladly send maps, but now i lost my interest and my touch at designing :D, however, good luck for the participants, i have experience with the program& also i have a good eye for maps, if any participant would like me to assist him i'll gladly do.

Never done map making before, so I guess I wouldn't be any good at it. Also, I don;t think another job would be good for me. :P Good luck to those that enter though!

Cool Contest. It isn't worth trying for thoses which never made a map, I made a few maps last summer but now I need to get used to AE again.. I will probably not enter. I am sure Vikingsrall and cheese3000 will win. With crashyoyoyo. Maybe.

So does the map have to be no larger then 40x40x3, and no smaller then 20x20x1?

No specific type, just make it playable, i guess.

AlternativaEditor (map editor)

Also you'll need the libraries ( the props, usually it's zipped and you'll need to unzip them )

After unzipping the libraries, open the AlternativaEditor and load up the libraries you want to load, from the file you have unzipped the libraries in, after finishing your map, save it, and open the Tanks Testing Tool (TTT) to run your map for a trial.
